    1. I watched Ladebäck SWE yesterday and I must say very good. Please look watch minute 5-10 HUN-WAL. His personal style is a bit different from the usual in UEFA competition. Interesting to hear what you think when you see these highlights!

      Thanks Austriaref.
Here^^ is an interesting incident, the opening caution for Ladebäck in HUNWAL.

      Delete
    3. Very good! This particular incident by itself already indicates we have something interesting in this referee. Not common prevention, awareness. This should be always, in all games, and in all minutes...

      Delete
    4. Excellent decision by Ladebäck, with a very nice display of personal authority, preventing any possible altercation between the players. So refreshing to see something like this, and especially important given the age of players.

  7. Busy last minutes for Ocenas in SUINED with two late PKs (87' & 90').

I have doubts about the first one being inside or outside the box, first reaction by the Slovak referee was to give a FK but immediately changed to PK after a shout by the Albanian AR2, from what I saw I'm more inclined to FK than PK though but it was quite difficult, VAR stuff. Then 100% correct RC for NED6 for DOGSO (without attempt to play the ball, he was going off regardless of FK or PK)

2nd one was fully correct, clear tripping (possible missed 2YC for NED3?)

    1. Agree FK is more expected than PK. Ocenas should have stayed with his stomach feeling.

2nd PK is clear. Nice position from the Slovakian. The YC is mandatory unfortunately.

No major impact on the result but still.

First PK whistle by Ocenas, as you mentioned it seems that the first whistle was for a DFK then changed to PK. RC correct in both decisions. I'm not sure if holding continues inside or not. I would be very curious to see in case of we had VAR. It would be an intervention or not?
      https://streamable.com/jlxqem
Second PK in 2 minutes. I don't see a mandatory YC here, especially if you see the big picture, PK +RC 2 minutes ago. Second PK + 2 YC would be to harsh IMO

      Delete
    3. First incident for me impossible to say whether inside or outside, better to stay with the first feeling by referee, unless extremely clear elements... for what I can see, it is possible it ends before the line, but not sure...
Second case, correct decision, could have been YC for reckless but in penalty area this kind of infringment is forgotten. In the middle of the pitch all people would talk about a missed YC for late tackle. In penalty area arguments are always only SPA or DOGSO...

PK whistle by David Smajc Slo in favor of England. It seems that we have the first big mistake in this tournament. Never a penalty. Attacker leg goes directly to defender who did nothing. Some hesitation from Smajc before the whistle, sometimes when you are to close you don't have a full picture of situation.

    1. Very bad decision! 7,9 for sure.
(thanks for all clips, Ref1! :))

    2. Attacker going against defender, if foul, in favor of defender. Referee was close, but he had a wrong perception. Significant mistake.

      Delete
    3. Very bad indeed, I agree. It leaves me wondering, like Ref1, if his close (too close?) position had an impact on this, despite of an open view he had.

  10. Never a penalty.use of contact to gain the penalty.

Well done to Turkish referee 👏

      Delete
    2. Interesting situation because simulation was not easy to spot due to the movement on the back with the leg of defender, in a way he tries to stop attacker, but indeed there isn't contact and it is the attacker trying to deceive referee, so even more correct decision...

    3. Perfect caution. Clear attemt to deceive

Fourth goal of Poland seems to be just offside based on the grass line but very very tough decision to make for Serbian AR1

    ReplyDelete

    1. Indeed looks tight offside, but extremely difficult also because you have that contrary movement by a defender in the middle that can create confusion to AR...

Third correct penalty in 2 matches for Azeri Elçin Məsiyev. Seems he will go further in later stages of competition.

    First GK encroachment during penalty

Second GK encroachment but advantage was played by the referee.

    Well done to Albanian AR2.
Brave decision to raise the flag two times in a row even i would like a delay of flag to the second one.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Correct penalty, then indeed very brave AR with these decisions. He must be praised for his alertness. Without VAR, very often nobody, not even observers, care about that... especially in the second case the full decision making process was evident by both officials (reported infringment and played advantage) so very positive.

  15. When referees give early cards and they then find themselves in the first part of first half, with potentially second YC trying to manage without card, committing crucial mistakes... check Gagliardini management by Marinelli in Napoli Inter minute 23... terrible miss, then of course right now in 42' immediatley second YC for the player at his next foul. Reading the way he issued this second YC, you can easily understand he had already noticed his previous mistake... (maybe video to follow later)

    2. I don't think there are COVID issues, just UEFA rewarding the support referees before they leave. They've been all given dead rubbers + D'Hondt doing ENGSUI.

Karaoglan & Ladebäck will do the decisive games for qualification, Sylwestrzak & Masiyev in Group B.

Also, the referees not appointed for MD3 (Milanović, Robinson, Smajc, Ocenáš) are all acting as FO.

    3. Karaoglan looks like a real talent. Very good so far. Calm and personality in full using.

  21. Referee for quarter final between Germany & Switzerland is Robinson NIR, Sylwestrzack POL is 4th official on this game. Also assistants in wrong order.

  22. Surprised robinson given another match. Poor performances. Probably a goodbye match. Karaoglan will officiate final for sure. Ladeback will have important semi final alongside sylwestrzack

    1. I agree. Turkish big chance for the finale. Milanovic & Masiyev could deserve this game. Robinson lucky to be given another chances.

      Delete
    2. If Poland doesnt advance to the semi-finals, Sylwestrzak will referee the final. If Poland wins against Serbia, Karaoglan for a final and Sylwestrzak for play-off for world championship. In my opinion of course.

    3. Between Sylwestrzak & Milanović, probably the one whose nation gets knocked out in the QF will get a SF.

  23. From watching all matches, Masiyev & Robinson only referees in my opinion to not have made key error in this tournament.

    3. Nice with discussions of the future of UEFA.

Clear that there is big difference in quality.

TUR/AZE/POL/SWE is way ahead regarding quality of referees. From my point of view only AZE Karaoglan and SWE Ladeback without clear error before QF. Sylwestrzak's POL unlucky with soft PK in NED-ENG but maybe supportable and not important for the match. But POL team in SF so he’s not able to use in the tournament (only playoff).Must feel bad for Karaoglan because he has been good. But with this important mistake he is probably out but could still be a nice gesture to stay..

My predictions but it’s very difficult and some are only guessing because a lot to consider:
SF1 SRB together with TUR AR/4OF
SF2 SVK together with AZE AR/4OF
PO WC POL together with SWE AR/4OF

FINAL SWE together with AZE/TUR AR/4OF

  24. Two key incidents from today's matches. One for each
Very soft PK by Robinson at Ger_Sui after a mutual holding. Correct RC in case of PK. Also after this situation a lot of reactions by the players and benches after every whistle, almost all the remaining minutes of 1H. I think Kuipers who was observer will be not very satisfied with Robinson match management

    https://streamable.com/7thpmp

At Pol_Ser referee Elçin Məsiyev a strong candidate for the final after he whistle 3 correct PK and a RC for Dogso in 3 matches, today with this ghost penalty he destroyed everything

Simulation is excellent decision, like the other one in a previous game, even more difficult because defender put leg there, but no contact. Referee could have been easily deceived...
The penalty appeal can be discussed, clearly you can whistle, but in my opinion in case of VAR no intervention, not a mandatory penalty, it's up to referee, contact with keeper can be assessed as normal collision between players.
The last one very clear penalty for handball.
I think an obsever can be absolutely happy with such decisions in crucial incidents.

    1. With Poland advancing to the SFs, U17 WC playoff game was the only possible appointment for Sylwestrzak.

Expected SF appointments, final will be for either Milanović or Karaoglan.

    1. Yep, I like his style a lot.

Final referee Karaoglan is 36 years old, so I expect him to be fast-tracked in UEFA in case of good performances

    2. Yes agree. Karaoglan must be pushed forward. Also Milanovic deserves this. Turkish is on CORE program with a top coach as Snoddy so he is already followed closely.

    3. Hmm, I am convinced that Sylwestrzak, who is only a year older, presented better in this tournament. He had more challenging games, he didn't make crucial mistakes. UEFA gave him a higher rating too, setting him up for a World Cup qualifier when Milanovic stopped at the quarter-finals, although in theory he could officiate the semi-final or even the final, as Serbia lost to Poland in the quarter-finals.

    4. However, I think the general quality of refereeing in this tournament has been good.
