  1. If I checked correctly we have all Elite and Category 1 referees, as it was for previous Summer courses, unless the Russians (nothing new) and Frappart who is still listed among Men's Category 1 officials.
    29 Elite + 56 Cat. 1

    1. I’m impressed by the huge number of attendees; are assistant invited too? Has Uefa headquarter ao many chambers and places to host so many people? Next time I suggest to go there also ourselves 😄😄

  2. Punishable handball, yes or no

    1. Absolutely punishable, correct PK

    2. Yes, you must always ask: "Where would the ball have ended up without the touch of the arm?" In this case, it woudl have passed, so it was increasing body's volume.

  3. 21' Fulham goal against Chelsea disallowed after VAR review for careless foul in build up. Very controversial, many fans, media, ex-players unhappy with the decision, but to me seems fully correct and fairly obvious. Many also taking issue with Rob Jones calling it careless (commentators suggesting he misspoke!), which to me suggests they have no idea what the terms careless and reckless mean in the LotG (or that they have ever bothered to read them). Really poor from a lot of ex-players, I feel for the officials making announcements if even those in the media who played the game are giving incorrect information to the public, discrediting the referee

  4. And now PK for Chelsea after handball but VAR clearly showed to referee Jones a clear foul and an handball by Chelsea player before. What a mess and ridiculous decision here….

    1. The Pedro handball was kicked at him from centimetres away. I'm happy that that was super close proximity so no handball. Less sure on the penalty handball. I think that could have been left with the onfield decision either way. It was on the border of natural position (when jumping) or not. Penalty supportable. (I do think the two possible fouls between the handling incidents where rushed through though)

    2. Clear penalty, arm was open with player jumping.
Clear as well the handball by Pedro before, this penalty would have been annulled here in Italy.

  5. https://x.com/ArchivoVAR/status/1961823803492708653 Looks like a terrible mistake by Pablo Gonzalez (Var) to allow the Atletico goal to stand earlier. He was meant to be the AVAR for the Real Madrid game on at the moment but has been replaced by Melero.

  6. Interesting incident in Real Madrid - Mallorca, RM goal disallowed after OFR by Sánchez Martínez due to (accidental) handball by goalscorer.

Do you consider it an immediate action or should have the goal stood as the goal was scored after a GK deflection?

    1. As long as the meaning of "immediate" is not 100% clear, I think we can't solve such incidents. For me the action by keeper can definitely create a new action.

    2. @Chefren
Handball - deflection to the same player - he scores = punishable

Handball - deflection - other attacker scores = not punishable

PS Deflection of the GK/bar/post it's all the same...

    3. It seems that the circular of the Spanish Refereeing crew of this year explains what is NOT an inmediate handball: a goal scored by another player different from the one who did the handball or a goal scored by the same player after driving the ball during a certain distance. Do you know if this is more or less the compromise in Uefa?

    4. Absolutely wrong decision, this is never a penalty cuz arda keept his hands close to his body... Very poor refreeing by sanchez Martinez he missed a clear corner and a foul for real too... He make lot's of mistakes all in favour of mallorca...

      Delete
    5. I think this is a bit of a grey area in terms of what immediate means. However, given how CTA has decided to define it in their Circular 3, the intervention was mandatory, as there was not unforced deliberate play by another player nor a driving, so it is, at the moment, a punishable handball. Will CTA ammend the criteria? For this season, I don't think so, but let's see for the next one, probably after consultation with IFAB/FIFA.

Now, on a personal note, I cannot wait until the day Real Madrid leaves/is expelled from LaLiga. Their unsporting way of working against the referees is disgusting. First, with Real Madrid TV videos, and also with their paid "journalists" who are 24/7 crying over all decisions (even factual ones like offsides) on social media, creating a polarised atmosphere and victimising themselves. Yes, we all want to know up to which point there was corruption while Negreira was CTA's vice-president, but they keep suggesting that it is still happening now. There are 20 teams in LaLiga, not just 2. It is unhealthy for the competition to create a war between those 2 and make the other teams irrelevant. The same goes for the TV money division.

Sorry for the rant and the off-topic.

    6. I mean lack of transparency + history of corruption does that. It's not like spanish referees have painted themselves in glory, except in being the highest paid referees in the world i supose.... Shocking "factual" offside decision in Alaves vs Atletico.

      Delete
    7. (spanish referees [and the league for that matter] covering themselves in glory once again... i'm surprised that there's so much controversy surrouding them and they have no credibility across the board in Spain... So surprised...)

    8. I don't agree with u George real Madrid have all the rights to critisize refrees cuz they are doing poor job/last season was total robbery in la liga if refs were fair then rm would won la liga that's a fact... they just want fair refreeing as simple as that... If refs were good then they wouldn't have reason to critisize right? Btw varca would do the same thing just remember how they critisize marciniak after losing against inter...

  7. Salisbury replaced by Brooks as VAR in Liverpool Arsenal. Reports suggesting the PGMO agree with most in saying that the intervention to disallow the 21' Fulham goal was an error

  8. Rangers 0-0 Celtic. Very good performance from Donald Robertson in quite normal match for a derby. Good control throughout, well accepted with almost no visible dissent at all. 2-3 times I've seen this ref have usually been quite impressive - surprising that he's made no impact on UEFA refereeing.

    1. A lot of Scottish referees have some amazing potential but just aren’t being selected in big matches, it’s really sad! Thinking back 10 years to when we had two Elites to what we have now ☹️!

  9. Interesting minutes in OL-OM

21‘ Letexier and Rahmouni completely deceived by OL#16. Clear dive whistled as penalty. This is why it is good that VAR was invented.

    29‘ Correct RC DOGSO challenge

    1. Curious about the first incident.
Here a clip about the second:
      https://streamain.com/en/YzKwCo9er1tjanC/watch
Very easy red card to be issued, also given how defender made the challenge... a last desperate attempt

    2. Eventful 1H for Letexier in OL-OM.

Here is the penalty incident : https://streambug.org/cv/479e48

Letexier whistled penalty live, and overturned his decision after OFR (+ YC for simulation).

A very good RC for DOGSO, and a goal correctly cancelled after a late challenge on Marseille’s keeper at the end of 1H.

    3. Unexpected mistake by Letexier I must say. Here, as Jojo said, also AR should have spotted the big simulation...

  10. No VAR in Vallecas for technical issues and terrible mistake IMO by Busquets Ferrer. Not clear at all in this situation to whistled Yamal penalty.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No VAR because one angle shows that there is an obvious contact with Yamal’s left leg. Vallecano player should be much more careful in PK area. Debatable decision but not an obvious mistake. If not whistled, VAR wouldn’t react probably.

    2. Not the best weekend for officiating in Spain after the Atletico offside yesterday

      Delete
    3. Agree with @Miki, even if VAR was operative I think they would have stayed silent in this one (if they were 100% convinced it's a C&O mistake they still could have called over Busquets Ferrer and talk to him without showing the footage), however I assume play-on would be the optimal outcome re: this PAI for CTA-RFEF as Yamal exaggerates the contact.

      Delete
    4. For me,supportable decision for MBF, becouse one angle show the contact that was created. Correct Var to stay silent!

      Delete
    5. since then there have been several incidents with more contact than that "penalty".... no clear line whatsoever..

      Delete
    6. I agree huge mistake by busquets this is never a penalty... The correct decision would be no penalty and yellow card for acting performance by yamal... But hey it's varca they just can't win without refs help... #no la liga ref no party...

A created contact, by putting leg in defender's path.
Never a penalty for me. In modern football there is a trend in accepting such actions, but the assessment without thinking at VAR must be this is a mistake by referee.

      Delete
    8. Absolutely not a penalty. Not a foul be the defender anywhere on the field of play.

      Delete
    9. Although I also have doubts about this penalty, I don't agree with Chefren post. I don't think this one is an action in which the attacker searches the penalty, I think Yamal's movements are quite natural and the contact is enough considerable. The thing is for me, that it could be seen that the defender had already won the position and the touch is residual, so no penalty. In short, if the contact would have been with the defender BEHIND Yamal and not (almost) in front of him, for me that would be a clear PK.
