  2. Committee has started today with CL appointments during the Summer course. Several games are missing, but here what we can find so far:

    PSV - Union St. Gilloise
    Luis Medina Cantalejo ESP

    Benfica - Qarabag
    Cüneyt Çakır TUR

    PSG - Atalanta
    Martin Atkinson ENG

    Bayern M. - Chelsea
    Itchko Lozev BUL

    Liverpool - Atlético Madrid
    Frank De Bleeckere BEL

    Ajax - Internazionale
    Karen Nalbandyan ARM

    Copenhagen - Leverkusen
    Elmir Pilav BIH

    Newcastle - Barcelona
    Jan W. Wegereef NED

Possible to see a suprising assignment in Liverpool with the Belgian as observer, but he is very often in charge with experienced Elite as well. No doubts that a big name will go to Ajax - Inter while PSG - Atalanta with Atkinson can be more interesting than the former.
Again, with my Italian eyes I think that City - Napoli and Juventus - Borussia Dortmund are by far more difficult to appoint.

    1. Hi Chefren, I think some referee appointments for MD1 are still “open” because those referees are currently involved in the WC qualifiers – not because of the nationality of the teams. Last season we also saw RefCom apply a policy where referees after a significant mistake were sidelined for one round.

    2. Maybe Peljto in Liverpool with De Bleeckere?

    3. Very interesting to see De Bleckeere in Liverpool; it is an hint for a development elite referee so I would say Peljto or Sharer

  3. With this new season of CL, what debuts do we expect? I would say that Sozza and Sylwestrzak should be two of the main candidates...Gishamer and De Burgos IMO should also have their game...

And it is also valid to say that it will be an interesting season for Jovanovic... it seems that he is back so I expect a game for him in MD1...

    1. What I do find in this season is a shorter list of UEFA finals candidates (actually, year after year, I find it like this). I would say:
      - Consistent/Already tested candidates:
Letexier, Nyberg, Oliver and Zwayer (I find this last name not so convincing, let's see if his last quite good season was not a matter of luck)
      - Young/Promising/Progressing/Being promoted:
Massa, Mariani, Pejlto, Sánchez Martínez, Pinheiro and maybe Eskas?
      - Well considered in the past but in a worse position now:
      Taylor, Makkelie and Gil Manzano.

I would add Jovanovic if he shows a good recovery.

      Am I missing someone?

    2. If you mean for all the three finals (including UEL and UECL) I fully agree with you on all names except Gil Manzano and Jovanovic; I don't see them ready neither for UECL; the italian name, to me, depends by the FIFA WC26 appointment; the one excluded by WC could be compensated by a Uefa final match and right now I guess that Mariani and Massa are at the same level. I would not exclude Siebert form the pool of candidates.

    3. Gil Manzano made a Bayern Munich - City and a great Milan - Inter with great ease, as well as a remarkable game in the Euro. Are you telling me that it does not have the capacity for a UECL? Don't make me laugh

    4. Beaton could make his CL debut, hes 43!

  4. Now that @D mentions the finals, I’d like to add the following:

-I know that many do not think the same, but IMO Zwayer is the No.1 candidate for the final in Budapest. He has the "clearest" sign: the final of EL, adding his age (44) and the fact that if Germany wanted to have a referee again in a CL final, it would be with Zwayer... In addition, the argument EL Final and then CL Final is not so uncommon (Turpin and Kovacs), I’d add Vincic but it was not a consecutive year... Of course, there is a possibility that a German team will be in the final, but if not, I would bet on Zwayer... As long as he doesn't make a "disaster" in a game…but in case of OK performances, for me he would have many possibilities.

Obviously, Letexier and Oliver are the other strongest options (in case of some GER team in the hypothetical final, I bet on one of them)

-I don't agree when you say that some are in a "worse position now", because if so, they would continue getting CL games? Yes, those names you say don't have the same confidence as before, it's clear, but IMO they're not so badly positioned in the UEFA’s eyes. (Maybe Gil Manzano I can accept it, it's a very strange situation, but Makkelie and Taylor are still very relevant at the UEFA level).

-The truth is that I don't consider Jovanovic among the candidates for the finals this season, there are many referees better positioned than him right now...I would add Meler, it will be interesting to see what kind of games he gets this season...

-As I mentioned in the previous point, Gil Manzano's situation is extremely strange, it is obvious that SM is ESP No.1 today and if a Spaniard wanted to get a final it would be with SM, but no qualifying game so far? Not even Conference? Strange... If I were SM, I would feel angry and disappointed with myself, two pre-EURO performances (West Ham-Leverkusen and Georgia-Luxembourg) took me away from participating in the German tournament... And more knowing how it went to Gil Manzano...;) But yes, it seems that SM will be the Spanish representative in WC 2026.

--Last but not least, I add Guida. I'm a little disappointed that they haven't given him the opportunity in the U20 in Chile, but well, no one knew he could recover... IMO he's a little better than Mariani…With Mariani in Chile it seems almost unlikely that Guida will reach WC, but hopefully ;) But IMO, Guida has a better "profile" for WC...

  7. Rob Hennessy had an overall good performance in Oslo until 86'. He didn't expect the unexpected :)

03' Two tactical fouls from FIN, the second one on the verge of YC for SPA/LoR holding but quick FK execution and the game being 'friendly' didn't make it possible ;)
    https://streambug.org/cv/a7c43f

    16' Penalty awarded for kicking
    https://streambug.org/cv/c15e90

41' PAI handball - arm is naturally positioned, correct play-on
    https://streambug.org/cv/703ad0

    43' PAI off-the-ball challenge
    https://streambug.org/cv/5775f1

48' Missed advantage and possible YC 21FIN for SPA
    https://streambug.org/cv/3adffd

77' Warning to 14NOR after late tackle and reaction afterwards
    https://streambug.org/cv/24d4b7

86' Advantage after foul by 4FIN, FK awarded for holding by 25FIN, UB/VC reaction by 7NOR leading to mass confrontation - two YCs were shown, to 4FIN and 7NOR, Kavanagh didn't assess 7NOR's behaviour as clear and obvious violent conduct, missed YC to 25FIN though

90+1' Missed 2YC to 4FIN after cynical challenge against 7NOR

    1. It's a clear violent conduct as reaction, in my opinion.
Should have been sent off. And yes, the player committing the holding should have been booked for a clear SPA.
      Correct penalty whistled before!

    2. Correct YC for FIN4 for his reckless offence at the start of attack. Then missing YC for FIN25 for lack of respect to play (I wouldn'd say SPA but can be discussed) and NOR7 should have been sent off because intensity of his off ball offence wasn't negligible.

  8. That 4th appointment for Isaac Trevis (NZL) on that second game of the NZ - AUS series doesn’t make sense to me - Isaac’s an AR. Maybe Chatham Cup final appointments have affected that - Cory Mills (R), Isaac Trevis (A1) and CK Kawana-Waugh (4th). I wonder why they didn’t pick someone like Calvin Berg or one of our Female FIFA badges for that slot.
