ReplyDeleteCome on, Turpin! I have faith in you
ReplyDeleteTurpin was a very wrong choice and it will show imho
ReplyDeletenot to mention i really do hope turns out i was wrong
DeleteThks for this very positive prediction.
DeleteFor me he has been really impressive through the tournament and looking forward to an elite performance we have come to expect from him in UEFA and FIFA competitions
ReplyDeleteAgree.
DeleteThis is the best referee!!
ReplyDeleteJa, det är sällan han gör en dålig match
DeleteWhat is refreshing to see an early warning to Norway like that for a little delay to restart the game.
ReplyDelete+1 although I wouldn’t say delaying the restart, England weren’t looking to play it quick, thought he was being clever by moving the ball back to the exact spot of the foul. Yes, refreshing.
Delete9’ first foul given always interesting to look at it as it sets the tone. No replay to see which of the 3 players made contact, obviously lets the first touch go (maybe some upper body contact) but then after Bellingham does move past a player and brought down.
ReplyDeleteThen NOR captain kicking the ball back to the spot of the foul (I wouldn’t saying kicking it away) but firm words, good use of player management here for me
+1
DeleteI see nobody commented the most impressive and weird thing: where are the long sleeves of Turpin? It’s strange to see him with short sleeves kits 😅
ReplyDeleteThe heat of North America has been too much for him! Haha
DeleteIndeed ! Historic for him ^^
DeleteAlmost the same in France this week
DeleteShould be a fairly straightforward game for Turpin, both sides adopting a slow passing game.
ReplyDeleteYes both teams seem interested in playing football, no signs they will take an overly aggressive approach (to be expected) and this will help him manage the match. Settling into a pattern where England hold possession against Norway’s low block while Norway will look to hit on the counter.
DeleteA bit harsh to say slow passing game considering the conditions. Important to note that the temperature will impact the teams today, 28 degrees with 72-87% humidity during the match will be oppressive and is going to make it hard for all involved.
The worsed match first 22 minutes in this WC!
ReplyDeleteVery very boring yes…
Delete😴
DeleteOppressive humidity, not surprised both teams are struggling
DeleteEngland doing nothing and Norway sitting back for a long time
ReplyDeleteNothing to note very easy first 23 minutes for turpin
ReplyDeleteTurpin couldn't have wished for easier 1/4
ReplyDelete+100
DeleteCollina on the stadium
ReplyDeleteHydration break, so far so good from the French officials
ReplyDeleteMost boring match so far. Nothing new. European football.
ReplyDeletePersonally I would have had NOR #26 at least spoken to or cautioned for repeated dissent by action.
ReplyDeleteAgree. But as many things, not the trend of this WC…
DeleteAgree, not a criticism against Turpin, just my personal opinion
DeleteI have the same ;) i agree ^^
DeleteYes agree with you both, not at this World Cup but would like to see that clamped down on. Then Collina has the hide to suggest that dissent has been non-existent at this World Cup.
DeleteFoul or normal football contact? Or no contact?
ReplyDeleteNormal football contact imo
DeleteFor me normal football contact
DeleteHe took the ball. No foul.
DeleteFoul where Argentina benefits , normal contact when Argentina don't benefits
DeleteOh come on ! Never and never foul here. No contestations at all by english players.
DeleteBanter , referee analysis & Letexier defender
DeleteThe only arguments came because a goal was scored. Otherwise they would have just gone on with it.
DeleteBut AFC Referee Rep, that's the point. Wanting referees to have a high bar but then when a goal is scored in the same APP there's "panic".
DeleteExcellent "no foul" call in the build up to the NOR goal. I felt foul live but replay shows clear touch on ball.

Me too, live looked like a clear foul but on the replay could see the clear playing of the ball. Helps Turpin is in an excellent position.

ReplyDeleteExcellent call by turpin
ReplyDeleteOutstanding no foul decision by Turpin confirmed by VAR. That’s the mark of great referee to stay focused to keep alertness and perfect foul detection like here.
ReplyDeleteGood decision on the no foul for the goal. Game could get slightly more challenging for Turpin, as one could say the favourites have fallen behind.
ReplyDeleteHell? That was a foul on Kane???
ReplyDeleteWe understand the first post better now. The defender clearly plays the ball first and then there is normal contact: no foul here whatsoever.
DeleteGoal to Norway, this should change the nature of the match. Already Norway playing slightly differently and in the 5 minutes before the goal many soft challenges not given as fouls. Turpin establishing his high bar for foul recognition.
ReplyDeletePotential foul in the build up to the goal against Kane. Great no-foul call by Turpin, defender clearly gets the ball cleanly and then contact is what we expect. As the referee was in a great position to see the incident, there is no VAR intervention to call an OFR.
+ 1
DeleteTurpin is not technically flawless till now because he’s too static, too central and with unusual positioning difficulties and therefore sometimes too far from the action.
ReplyDeletePerhaps because of match rythm indeed. But no problem in foul detection at all for me.
DeleteSeriously!! I cannot believe there is any criticism. Best ref at the WC
DeleteOliver was very good too English ref ;)
DeleteI think with regards to the positioning and the slightly cautious approach is down to the fact it 30 plus degrees and with the humidity it feels like over 40. Conserving energy may not be a bad thing at all and in all honesty his technical accuracy has not suffered because of it.
DeleteToo central but this has been the consistent approach all World Cup. I can only imagine that they have been given directives to stay more central because it is a criticism and something that I have noticed in almost every game.
DeleteStatic in the first 22.5 of the half or of the second 22.5 of the half? When Norway were sitting deep and England had possession maybe you could argue but he was in a sufficient position with no decisions incorrect due to positioning.
Perfect offside call
ReplyDeleteWhat a masterclass from Turpin! Just conitinue like this. Alez Clement!
ReplyDeleteI get told off if I champion MO too much. I leave that to others
ReplyDeleteExcellent performance by French referee as always in this WC. At time, one of the most performant whistle on the competition IMO.
ReplyDeleteGreat offside live. Spot on
ReplyDelete?? The semi automatic offsides, basically a computer tells you in your earpiece... offside, flag up at end of play ....don't praise the a r. , spot on. They do nothing now
Delete@Jordan I don’t know if it was the case here but I have that same feeling for the all competition, I can’t tell if it the decision of the AR or audio alert and that’s frustrating imo.
DeleteThey either get an offside (it’s clear) or a delay, delay delay (tight call) audio message in their headset
DeleteMuito bem o assistente 2 estava um passo atrás.
ReplyDeleteOne of the few absolutely flawless, perfect first halves in this entire tournament. Does this guy ever have a bad game? Bravo Turpin!
ReplyDeleteHalf time, so far so good by the French officials Turpin and company
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it was Argentina on the first goal we would be able to see the behind camera angles
Turpin has an ego, sure, but that cool demeanor looks so good on him
ReplyDeleteThe more the drama, the bigger the match, the better it looks on him.
DeleteDoes anyone know what the Norway coach was complaining about as the referee was walking into the tunnel at half time? You imagine something in relation to the goal?
ReplyDeleteBall hit the cable for the spider cam.
DeleteThey just spoke about in on the USA halftime broadcast, the ball hits the cable of the sky camera from the goal kick…
DeleteYep can confirm same but very difficult to see
DeleteAhhh.. Thank you for that.
DeleteI think nobody detect it live.
DeleteIf the sensor in the ball picked up hitting someone's hair I assume it would pick up hitting a wire. But not APP.
DeleteDid it happen just before the goal did it? If it was just a slight touch then I doubt Turpin considered it interference if it made a slight touch.
DeleteBut no reason to check this on goal kick. Is Var awarded of that ? You don’t know…
DeleteSo technically it should have been a dropped ball but wasn't in the APP right? Only a foul that starts the APP is covered?
ReplyDeleteYes I think only offside are verified with captors of contact and no offside possible on goal kick so check done at all…
DeleteNo checke
DeleteClear push
ReplyDeleteCalm announcement and perfection english by Turpin
ReplyDelete(OFR) Full-Sequence 55':

The ball is not in the PLAY
ReplyDelete1st time seeing this decision.
ReplyDeleteIMO never enough to cancel goal.
ReplyDeleteThe ball isn't even in play! How did they call a foul on that
ReplyDeleteNew VAR protocol
DeleteSi normal decision as a referee intervened of he saw some contacts before a kick.
DeleteIt’s new VAR protocol here.
DeleteThis is bs tgey take the sprit of the law away
DeleteOk Adnane but this is the protocol !
DeleteWe have tons of new rules, most of them very stupid. They changed the football totaly. We don’t know anymore what is foul, what is punishable handball, when is penalty, what is deliberate play, how it isn’t corner kick when ref obviously missed it… And we can expect more and more stupid rules.
DeleteWhat the hell is this
ReplyDeleteOFR no goal and the perfect announcement from Turpin
ReplyDeleteVery correct decision
Foul and potentially offside also
ReplyDeleteClear push two times. First one before kick do corner retaken after OFR.
ReplyDeleteClear push but also well played by English defender who fall easily. First use of that new rule. Great announcement but should have been spoted live imo.
ReplyDeleteDon’t believe that is enough for an OFR, defender exaggerates the extent of the push massively.
ReplyDeleteNot at all. Not one but two pushes. Largely enough for OFR…
DeleteYes, I believe that’s why Turpin perhaps didn’t call it live and maybe perhaps he had an impeded view of the incident (was he too close?)
DeleteIn my view, it’s a good use of the change to VAR law. We don’t want to let this sort of contact go in the penalty area. I think the first contact actually made him unsteady so when he came for the second push (which was harder) he was already unbalanced and made him fall to the ground easier.
I’m sure the corner restart confused 99% of the footballing public watching the game. Players were bemused.
im not sure is this enough for OFR?
ReplyDeleteWe know Collina wants very strict interpretations on attacking fouls in that scenario. I thought it was pretty clear there would be an OFR and corner retaken. Correct outcome
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteIt’s interesting how the Referee Committee are strong on certain things, “foul is a foul in the APP” but other things not so strong
Isn’t this a huge technical error? VAR can intervene until play restarts, so by my interpretation, it should be impossible to restart with a corner kick, since there has been a restart between the foul and the goal
ReplyDeleteNo new VAR protocol allow this
DeleteNo good decision to retake corner with a foul before kick.
DeleteRead the IFAB news on their website.
DeleteIf argentina score that it is a goal
ReplyDeleteStop it with that. You are obsessed by Argentina no ?
DeleteCan we just stop those comments, that just not bringing anything good on this page.
DeleteArgentina never scores like this.
DeleteIg Egyptian player number 2 plays, Argentina would score every time! Je is to blame, referees were outstanding!
DeleteBig teams always get 50-50 decisions go their way, it's just how it is
DeleteI believe with this new line we will never see goals from corners again :-)
ReplyDeleteTbf this is too clear to allow it, 2 hands push after being told to stop it, imo is enough even if the English player is fouling easily
DeleteOn every corner there is pushing, so defending teams just need to tell one defender off the ball to fall down and that's it, there can never be a goal. This will be the development with time.
DeleteAgree here with @crn.pie, yes @Modric lots of pushing, grabbing and holding but this was just too obvious to not pick up especially since a goal was conceded off the corner.
DeleteAll over clear announcement in english by a French man !
ReplyDeleteYes, clear, (calm but this is brand Turpin) and strong announcement.
DeleteFor me, negative surprise that Turpin didn't react to push live. Should have been easily spotted.
ReplyDeleteEspecially after the warning but I think he let it play because he thinks that the English player is falling for nothing
DeleteIMO, i think he saw it but was not sure about time line in f the foul. He immediatly told to english players to wait for VAR check and remained motionless.
DeleteI actually don’t know if the main ref can call the CK to be retaken if there is a foul before the ball is in play or if it’s only a possibility for VAR ?
DeleteYes very good point, although what decision did he make? Did he give a goal and then by his body position and telling the players to wait, that he knew that a foul occurred in the lead up?
DeleteI guess this is what we want right? Give the goal then check that the foul is obvious or occurred?
Not a foul for me sorry england player dived
ReplyDeleteTwo pushes aren’t sufficient for you ? You comment a rugby match ?
Delete2 key decisions favoring england. Of course fifa want england norway semi.
ReplyDeleteArgentina*
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeletePotential foul on Kane not whistled is a key decision for England ? What the Hell are you saying ?
DeleteWhat two decisions? Penalty and the spider cam deflection?
DeleteYes
DeleteWhat penalty ?
Delete76 isnt push in the back of norvege player
ReplyDeleteIn GS opportunity…
DeleteYes when he jump to heading the ball
DeleteDo someone knows if the main referee can call to retake a CK if there is a foul before the ball is in play or if it’s only possible by the VAR with the new protocol ?
ReplyDeleteThe referee can intervene to stop a corner kick even after ball played for a warning or to speak with players : that’s a common use on football by years…
DeleteYeah that’s right stupid question tbh.
DeleteA much harder second half, yet his performance remains flawless. Incredible how high his standards are.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteAgree. Hard to argue he is being static or his positioning is unusual (maybe too close at the corner?) or that he is too far away from play to make decisions. Really enjoying his performance.
DeleteAgree good half but can’t be flawless with the OFR imo.
DeleteRegarding the ball touching the cable, that is indeed what happened, but we can see that nobody detected it live and that neither the players nor the Norwegian bench noticed it. However, it is unacceptable that FIFA allows a cable to be positioned so low above the pitch! And I think the VARs did not check this because nobody saw it either, and the sensor probably had not been flagged to them for such a very specific situation. Indeed, there is no reason to check a sensor when the ball is in the air…
ReplyDeleteI actually don’t even know if VAR can say something about this.
DeleteWhen was this?
DeletePrior to 1-1…
Delete@Michael on the ENG goal
DeleteTrue @crn.ple ! I realize now that’s this case is NOT on protocol ? Isn’t it ?
DeleteYeah just saw it on Reddit after I asked, wasn't mentioned at halftime by ITV.
DeleteYes because nobody saw it. French television didn’t notice it at all…
DeleteIt was shown by bein sport uts ckear the ball touch the cable and the trajoctory of thd bzll was changed
DeleteNo yc for dissent for kane ?
ReplyDeleteVery harsh if you show a YC for that…
DeleteAgree. No way in this match.
DeleteUnconvinced by this from Turpin tonight. Not at his very best
ReplyDeleteSo we didn’t see the same match of you considered him as « unconvinced ».
DeleteClear yc and foul missed thats an intentional trip on bellingham
ReplyDeleteYou are ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. Completely accidental one. Never intentional here.
DeleteHow can you consider this as a foul, NOR player kicks the ball and then Bellingham touch him, that’s a good no call imo.
DeleteThis is really a great performance despite OFR… I hope it stays the same as the game is getting harder
ReplyDeleteI would call your differents thoughts about « cable incident ». VAR can’t intervene for such case ? Not a possibility written on the protocol ? How do you assess this ?
ReplyDelete
