  1. None of the possible remaining Europ.refs for the european clash. No Brych, Mazic or Skomina. Interesting. For now I really think, that Ricci, Kuipers, Faghani and Cakir are frontrunners for final.

    1. Belgium v England and Colombia v Senegal should see UEFA referees... From final names we shouldn't forget Pitana!!

    2. You are right. But after opener a bit less likely.

    3. In Belgium - England possible to see a referee from another confederation. I don't see a UEFA official in this game, given that it will be important only for positioning, but both teams are already qualified. For example, Aguilar could get his second appearance, after a not convincing first one.

    4. In my opinion, ENG-BEL would be a good "recovery" game for Brych.

    5. Would be unfair on Skomina or Mazic if they get only 1 group game but Brych gets 2... If we think of names from other confederations, then it maybe possible to see Shukralla in Belgium v England too!

  2. Björn Kuipers is the winner of our poll for the best officiating at MD2. 147 votes.

    1. Bélgium-England must be for Mazic or Skomina.

    2. Skomina will be my guess!

    3. Kuipers was good for 80 minutes, but then he made very crucial mistake (he had totally wrong impression about alleged foul on Neymar, because he shoved that Neymar was tripped which wasn't even close). After that, he lost control a bit. So if he is the best with such big mistake, then others didn't do good job whatsoever.

    4. Majority are of the opinion that it was not a 100% error, of course no penalty is the most sensible decision there but the original call in real time was understandable... I completely disagree with the control part thought, he was not even close to losing control any time! Full control throughout the match and only mistake is the penalty situation which because of VAR had no bearing on the match!

    5. Unlike some others he had the courage to review the incident and change his decision without been influenced. I guess he was the best among the difficult games to manage.

    6. When VAR system is in place, one of the very important things is how you deal with the review... The Brazil v Costa Rica game was a textbook example of that and it basically just showed the World that VAR works and works well when operated by competent people!

    7. Hm, if you think, that it was not an 100% error, the OFR was a mistake by Makkelie and changing the decision a mistake by Kuipers.
      That's how VAR works.
I also liked, how it was solved, but then you have to accept that Kuipers made an error in the first place.

    8. Of course! It was something like 5% penalty and 95% no penalty and for the good of the game VARs need to intervene here and referee should take back his original call!

      Delete
    9. As per protocols, if the VAR has such perception that 95% of people would think no penalty but 5% will say penalty, then it will be a clear and obvious case for him to intervene. So Makkelie did the right thing as Kuipers' call was most certainly a 95% no penalty and good reversal by Kuipers as well!

  3. Interesting facts - at least I think so :-)
Number of referees with 3 group stage games:
    WC 2006 - 8
    WC 2010 - 4
    WC 2014 - 2
    WC 2018 - 0 (so far)

    1. Even in 2014 there was no plan of giving any referee 3 group stage matches... Irmatov and Pitana had to fill in for Nishimura and O'Leary!

      Delete
    2. This indeed could indirectly mean that at least most of the referees had a good appearance on their first games.

    3. Not completely impossible though to see Cunha in JPN-POL or Kuipers in SEN-COL.

      Delete
    4. O yes that´s right, I remember Nishimura's opener but had forgotten about O'Leary. Thanks Soham!

    5. @Philipp Why are you expecting Cunha and Kuipers for a 3rd game?? There are many other names with only a single match so I would guess Sikazwe in Japan v Poland and Mazic in Senegal v Colombia!

      @Mapet You are welcome

    6. Chefren - I agree. We have seen some fantastic refereeing, it will be very tough to pick referees for R16/R8. Some well-performing referees will be left out, sad for them.

      Delete
    7. I am not expecting it, there are indeed other more likely alternatives.
But they had a longer break than e.g. Mazic and already shown two good performances - therefore not impossible.
But yes, there are also several referees, who deserbe a second match.

    8. Cunha won't feature because he will be in Ekaterinburg on 27 June as he is 4th official in Mexico v Sweden! I expect 4 referees with 1 game for the last 4 Group stage matches!

  4. I hope that Cakir will not try a too leniant way tonight. This could easily become one of the most challenging matches of the WC, with the typical style of ARG and Nigerian players easily reacting very emotional. Good luck!

    1. Abdolutely right. If he does really well, then the final might be his to lose.

    2. Even though I'd rather see Kuipers in the final.

    3. Do Brazilians like Kuipers? :D

    4. Yes. No nonsense approach, brilliant players' management skills, solid, trustworthy and so on and so forth.

  5. HELLO VIEWERS

GET OUT OF FINANCIAL MESS WITH THE HELP OF drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com

I have been in financial mess for the past months, I’m a single mum with kids to look after. My name is REBECCA MICHAELSON, and am from Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. A couple of weeks ago My friend visited me and along our discussion she told me about DR BENJAMIN OWEN FINANCE of drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com that he can help me out of my financial situation, I never believed cause I have spend so much money on different loan lenders who did nothing other than running away with my money. She advised, I gave it a try because she and some of her colleagues were rescued too by this Godsent lender with loans to revive their dying businesses and paying off bills. so I mailed him and explain all about my financial situation and therefore took me through the loan process which was very brief and easy. After that my loan application worth $278,000.00USD was granted, all i did was to follow the processing and be cooperative and today I am a proud business owner sharing the testimony of God-sent Lender. You can as well reach him through the Company Email drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH
