  1. Very important appointment for Sidiropoulos, Roma-CSKA is a sort of playoff in group G. Good for him!

    ReplyDelete
  2. Sidiropoulos has a very good game and Del Cerro Grande is going for a quick promotion

    ReplyDelete
  3. UEFA seems to continue the same pattern regarding appointments.

There are quite a few risks on this first set of appointments.

Buquet and Del Cerro Grande gets big matches on 2 groups that are absolutely open.

This is a real test for Sidiropoulos. In case of a good performance, his spot on the Elite will be a little more secure. If not, well then.....

  4. Thanks for Referee committee that it is not a debutant again in Shakhtar Donetsk match:)

    1. But still only First Group. I even expected a Top10 referee there...

  5. OT

FC Barcelona - Sevilla FC (Juan Martínez Munuera)

Good onside by AR1 leading to Barcelona's 1-0.

    Potential missing cautions.

The most interesting situation for sure: VAR check after a handball in the penalty area.

    Penalty and YC for DOGSO

    1. I don't think that was dogso, I think it was reckless. But dogso is okay.

    2. This clip https://streamable.com/4w6fs in particular is a great example of how the VAR system can only go so far. outside the penalty area and not red card worthy so can't be reviewed. However if there is an AAR the referee wouldn't be looking towards the player with the ball and would spot the foul and YC on Suarez

  6. Excellent penalty decision in Everton - Crystal Palace by Anthony Taylor.
I am really starting to think he could attend EURO 2020, perhaps even as English no1...

  7. Definitely a wrong penalty whistled by Doveri in Aris - PAOK:

So, it seems as appointing foreign referees is not the solution for Greece. Maybe Melo Pereira will agree...

    2. The handball penalty is totally wrong. Hand is in natural position.

Doveri whistled another penalty at the 2nd half. Wrong again for my taste.

I am looking for a video.

If not wrong, in any case a quite soft call there.

  8. OT: a few minutes ago, VAR (Sánchez Martínez) invited Prieto Iglesias to review a possible VC situation. Referee decided for YC (reckless kick) after reviewing, ignoring VAR recommendation. First time in Spain?

  9. Vincic got Psv-Tottenham, as expected after his performance in last match,Skomina in Europa League (Sporting-Arsenal).

Sánchez Martínez appointed for Clásico, Hernández Hernández will be VAR.

  11. OT:

LaLiga MD1O appointments, only referee and VAR revealed by CTA-RFEF.

Apart from Clásico, interesting games for Mateu Lahoz (ATH-VAL) and Undiano Mallenco (ATM-RSO, hot match because of ideological rivalry between the fans, specially since in December 1998 (almost exactly 20 years ago) a Real Sociedad supporter was assaulted and stabbed to death in Madrid by an Atlético hooligan before an ATM-RSO)

Friend (surprisingly) appointed for the top game, but IMO fully justified, especially after his excellent display in Liverpool-Chelsea in the Carabao Cup a few weeks ago.

    1. Looks like PGMOL are giving Friend more big games indicating that he will be a strong favourite for the FA Cup final as there isn't many referees left on the list who haven't done it yet. Really only Pawson and Friend are the only contenders and Pawson at the moment is really out of form.

  14. Not a very convincing performance by Treimanis. Lack of a clear foul line, some minor wrong decisions (corner kick missed). However, good reaction to dissent.

    1. Correct penalty now for Young Boys.

      Delete
    2. Wrong offside (AR2) in a very promising attack by Valencia.

  15. Typical Kulbakoŭ in Athens. He stayed in the background, not issuing a single yellow card. One stern warning in 54', rather no mandatory yellow cards missed. He allowed some stronger body challenges and it's how we know him. Nothing more to report.

Ajax v Benfica is really important now for both teams. In case of Ajax's win they would be 4 points ahead of third-placed Benfica. I will watch the game handled by Ruddy Buquet in full.

    ReplyDelete
  16. In my opinion, Buquet missed a foul and a YC to Benfica after 7 minutes, for blatant holding. At least a free kick should have been given.
    9' Correct YC

  17. Missed penalty by Grinfeld and AAR1 in Madrid.

  18. Quite difficult, but still there's offside in Roma 2nd goal.

    1. Apart from that (impossible to spot live), I’d say average performance by Sidiropoulos and crew. Not really challenging game imo

  19. Difficult match for Buquet. No big mistakes, but I am not fully convinced. He lacks a clear line, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Buquet far from solid. No autority and no understandable foul line

  21. Easy game for Mažić in not so much challenging match..

  22. I think she have forget : Missed offside (Marcelo) by AR1 in Madrid (20-

  23. Most calm and relaxed I've seen Mazic since last seasons champions league final

    1. Really well managed game from Mazic and crew so far. Good cautions (1 persistent for MU18 and RT for JUV14), solid foul recognition and judged involvement in the game well.

  24. Hoffenheim players are angry with Undiano: poor management of added time?

    1. Yep. Didn't add any time after a goal in injury time.

    4. This is penalty, no doubt for me.

    5. What about AAR1? The most responsible there, I think...

      Delete
    6. In the stadium, it looked like Undiano had seen the scene and very clearly gestured that he did not need any other opionion. He even looked at AAR1 and shook his head energically.

      Delete
    7. Undiano has a certain form for such things.
If you can remember back to 2011, he was officiating Chelsea - Manchester United in CL QF. He whistled a very good match, but in the last minute he misses a clear penalty for Chelsea.
AAR Fernando Texiera Vitienes shouts into the micro "Penal! Penal!", but ignored by the referee.

I was really impressed by the Spaniard in Roma-Shakhtar and I hoped he would get an EL Final this season before he retired, but this now seems unlikely, considering also Rosetti's direction.

      Delete
  25. Mazic in Manchester, for what I said, a very good performance, including prevention with many warnings before corner kick and so on. Well done.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Buquet's performance in Amsterdam can be described as 'okayish'. In my humble opinion, he never came into the match rhythm. In some cases he was right not using whistle for slight contacts, but at the same time he whistled some soft free kicks and not every caution issued was mandatory. The clear mistakes were: not whistled blatant holding (8', also missed YC for lack of respect/SPA) and missed deliberate handling outside the box in 78'. On the other hand, perfectly detected holding in 64' (YC issued) and Onana cautioned for dissenting at AAR1 in 39'. The performance was not bad - far from that! - but also not polished.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I tend to agree with you. I missed a clear line. I think the YC in '64 was in coorporation with AAR1, because the whistle was delayed. Good example of teamwork. Same counts for the YC to Onana, who showed no respect.
I'd say 8.2 in the end, also taking in account it was a 'quite challenging' match in my opinion.

However, Vlad, I am curious: do you think Buquet has a lot of charisma / natural authority? I felt that may be part of what I missed in his performance.

  27. 80 minutes and unspectacular performance by Undiano in an easy game. I should add I'm far from neutral in this case, so I'd say the first half penalty appeal was at the very least supportable no call. The handball in the second half has to be a pk after watching the replay.

His management of time wasting and added time was however, very bad. Three minutes for a half with four goals, six changes and plenty of time wasting from Lyon. He pointed to the his clock several times, apart from that, he took little action against it. Three minutes were far too few, Hoffenheim scored in added time, but it seemed he did not add extra minutes instead whistling yet another controversial free kick against the home side, so they were definitely unhappy with him.

So it is one crucial mistake and at least an important are for improvement IMHO. He could have avoided the scenes after the final whistle.

    1. Same terrbile management of added time in PAOK- Chelsea. It seems that spanish referees simply can't do better regarding this aspect. Anyway, for Undiano Mallenco should be his last months as FIFA referee ...

    2. Yes, he is retiring due to age limit at the end of the season.

    3. Last night I attended Norwich - Aston Villa, referee was Simon Hooper, who joined PL but is returning from injury.
Good performance by the man from Swindon, but more specifically, world class management of additional time.
Five minutes were signslised, but Hooper enlarged it to 99:00 thanks to injury/time-wasting, what was very impressive- that is how to manage additional time!
