  1. Absolutely unexpected! Years and years waiting for a possible appointment of Stéphanie Frappart in this game, but then, when possible, the choice is different.
However this can be because the French will be busy in EURO preparation, but I wouldn't exclude other surprises such as fourth official in CL or EL final...

    1. Also Ligue 1 is still in season so maybe that's why she wasn't appointed

    2. I don't understant this argument, ubi major, minor cessat.
She would have been very happy with a CL final assignment.
More generally, looking at the recent policy of finals appointments by UEFA committee, I'm starting to think that they don't consider as very crucial for a referee to get a final, if compared to what we can perceive about this assignment (and maybe the referees themsevles). Indeed, looking back at the many opportunities in which Mateu Lahoz could have got a final, but he was nver selected, I'm drawing the conclusion that different and various factors are considered by committee, they want referees to be always ready for everything and when there is such important call it is NEVER granted!

    3. The Euro referee seminar is scheduled for next week, from 10 to 13 May 2021, so she would have been available on 16 May 2021 for the UWCL final. She might be involved in one of the men's finals or simply her Euro appointment was considered enough for her this season.

  2. Wow, the first CL final without French teams since 2014 and no Frappart. What a surprise!

  3. Well... No comment.
Good luck to Riem Hussein though !

    1. Then just give no comment...
Look at how Frappart was treated this year: no referee has ever received such assignments while in third year in local top division. Can we stop with the French nepotism once something does not go your way? Please be objective, give reasons or look for explanations, but stop with such stupid comments like 'no comment'. Come on...

    2. Saying that Frappart deserved WCL final is not French nepotism but facts. And I agree, she got outstanding appointments compared to her experience and status in French League.
However given that French team reach the final almost every year, it would have made sense to her this year. The same for Mateu Lahoz last year. But that’s just my opinion, please respect it.

    3. * to give it to her

    4. and the same applies to hussein, too...there have been german teams in almost every final for the last 20 years...it is a curse to every referee to come from a country with strong teams. think of stark and brych since 2008...i also dont see why uefa should "pamper" one referee with almost every top-match and milestone in one season? also what if she makes terrible mistake in that final? will you strip her of olympics and euro-cup then? would be consequent at least. in my eyes you dont acknowledge the performance of other (female) referees. i dont see why all "fame" should be centered to one single referee. yes, they are individuals, however, do you think it is good for the team spirit within the group?

    5. @WCReferee, My comment was more based on your first comment. Just saying 'no comment' is really annoying and screams of nepotism / pettiness. This, combined with my observation that you are Turpin's number 1 fan as well (and other French referees) led to my comment. It was more based on the type of comment that you made, because if we look at the reasoning behind it (your second comment), I actually agree with you.

  4. Unbelievable!!
But congrats to Riem Hussein for this great appointment.
After 2017 with Bibiana Steinhaus just 4 years later again a German Referee for Women's CL Final.

  5. IMO only reasonable explanation is that Frappart might be appointed as 4th official in UCL/UEL.
I am going to predict Clement Turpin as referee of the UEL final with Frappart as 4th...

    1. Oh yes, i agree.
This sounds like a logical reason.
When we remember the UEFA Supercup 2019, there was Stéphanie Frappart the Referee and Clément Turpin 4th official, now it can be reversed.
Because for me Clement Turpin is nearly safe for this year's EL Final.

    2. Cakir vas 4th, Clement was VAR 🙃

  6. Without following closely the Women CL, I think it's great to see that probably Riem Hussein was planned and the committee didn't change their mind, just because PGS didn't quality. So I assume Hussein had a great season and probably fully deserved appointment.
Maybe Frappart has no CL final in her palmare yet, but has achieved so much and received great appointments compare to her other colleagues. So it's nice to see that it's not just a 'one woman' show in European refereeing.
Congrats to Hussein and good luck to her and her team in the final!

    1. yes, i absolutely agree. also, why put every top match in the hands of frappart? i think other referees have had an excellent season, too...only because we only see frappart in the news and in tv it doesnt mean that the others did not perform well...

  7. Frappart expected, but not appointed. Will it happen the same with the expected candidate for the men's CL final?

  8. I respect opinion of every single person on this blog but in last time there are to much comments on appointments that includes: "political", "unfair", "nepotism", "Rosetti", etc.
First of all, appointments, expecialy in this faze of the competition, are made based on several factors. Second, those appointments are not made only by Rosetti, they are made by UEFA's referees committee. This means that Dallas, Batta and Sajn, or at least two of them agreed on appointments we have this year. I think that all semi-finals appointments are deserved, best referees are appointed there and who ever sais that any appintment is political is wrong.

    1. Oh, this also referes to this situation with Frappart and Hussein. Why should Frappart get a final only because there are no French teams in final? Frappart is first woman that officiated Supercup, first to officiate Champions League match and there is a big chance she will be the first female to officiate Champions league or Europa League or Confederations Legaue final in the future. If Hussein is in a good form and committee obviously thinks so why wouldn't she get a final?

    2. Or is it Conference laague? I am not sure what is the name of new competition ;)

    3. Well said, fully agreed.

We let ourselves down as a serious blog with comments like that.

  9. I haven't followed WCL this season, but if I remember rightly Frappart had a max 7,4 mark in the Atlético - Chelsea game, so an appointment to the final would have been a clear breach of the performance principle.

I really liked Hussein's style at the last Women's WC, hope she has a good performance in this final!

    1. Good remark about that game, played in Italy. I had forgotten that, I also commented on the blog, to be honest this can even be main reason for the missed appointment and I would fully agree with committee!

    2. ...except for her wrong RC that is now shown in all FIFA teaching materials as a wrong DOGSO.

  10. In all this it would have been excellent or could for Bibiana Steinhaus to act as VAR in the WCL final in which she is more than capable and also German, while she is well aquinted with the technology or at least AVAR..

    1. Agreed 100%, unless she is being kept for another final.

    2. i can fully understand the "gender" aspect. also she is on the fifa vmo list and at least qualified on paper. but i think we all know this is only due to her being the only female in this role and we all have seen, read and watched her way too many "below expectation"-performances as var with partly crucial mistakes which even lead to a different outcome of her matches. in germany she was a good bundesliga ref, with all her personality, charisma and cleverness (especially in terms of management and positioning when here severe fitness problems became quite evident to anyone in her last two years). but in var it is only about decision making quality. and i think to everybody who is familiar with the materia must agree that she is quite inept in this role.
furthermore i think it would weaken the achievement of hussein severly. german and international media all would go "steinhaus first var" "steinhaus makes history" "steinhaus here, steinhaus there"...how would you feel als referee? this is your final where you have qualified yourself for with regular excellent perfomances. and the only person - due to maximum media presence before - is the var, that maybe isnt of general interest. come on, thats not fair to her, is it?

    3. Can you give some examples (matches) for those alleged decisions?
