  1. Very good news coming for Peljto and Nyberg.
Quarterfinals have been always the "border" stage between Elite and Category 1 appointments. Reading their names at this stage is a big signal for a promotion. I must say that in recent times the referee from Bosnia has shown quite good officiating, and easy to say that about the Swedish as well. As for the rest, we can point out the different treatement of Siebert and a "classic" appointment for Sidiropoulos...

    1. Very glad that Glenn Nyberg's excellent level of refereeing has resonated with UEFA/Rosetti, great example of the performance principle in action! We should praise them for that 100%.

  2. Interesting choice of VAR for Peljto, even more because at this level of KO stage it shouldnt be difficult to find referees. We can guess that Bebek's OFR call for DOGSO discussed at the blog was assesed as correct and also the appointment makes sense because of the language, but then the combination with San?
Maybe San is filming a new documentary :D

  3. Dallas and Vassaras observing next week (UECL returns). Any ideas? Pinheiro and Mariani?

    1. The names you mentioned can be the expected ones because they would suit with the choice of Nyberg and Peljto for first legs. We will see.

  5. RC for DOGSO in the very last minute of the game by Sidiropoulos.
To me, it was a fair tackle on the ball, indeed OFR called.

  6. Sidiropoulos all over the place after the VAR review, unsure as to who he sent off. Understandable on field RC from his angle, correct for VAR to overrule.

    1. Indeed he lost the player for a while, not a good management, and I fully agree as well about the fact that mistake was an understandable one, not easy to detect it was a rather fair tackle on the ball. Nevertheless, another game without "clean sheet" for the Greek...

  9. Nyberg gave a YC but for me a clear RC in Switzerland for DOGSO. No attempt to play the ball whatsoever

    1. Yes agree. No intent to play ball and was the last back. If Sidiropoulos could've given a RC earlier if ball not won, this one should've been.

    2. All in all, Nyberg was quite impressive - very good movement, keeping pace with the players and letting the (very entertaining) game flow, using the advantage rule many a time. Unfortunately, AR1, Mahbod Beigi, provided an unconvincing performance, missing a few offside situations - had any of them resulted with a goal scored, VAR would have certainly chalked it off.
