If Rosetti was God, Vincic would have a primary place in the heaven, whatever he does 😄😄lol. Well I’m just jocking with full respect for everything and especially for religion, but the treatment of Vincic is really amazing. Real-Milan is a risky match but mainly a huge gratification and recognition. It’a also so evident how his management is changed: now he seems no more over protected having done CL final. Not over protected but over recognized. Bue he is good..
ReplyDeleteNo Attwell for the English referees, he is left out so far. It will be interesting to see how Guida and Pairetto will be treated, considering the handball call I still cannot believe...
ReplyDeleteOnce again a top match for Vincic.
You have already a signal about Pairetto, both Mariani and Chiffi have been called as VAR, but not him (I don't mention Di Paolo because he is VAR PRO, retired referee). I think Pairetto will not be called anymore.
DeleteIn my opinion UEFA should have given information about this incident, at least releasing an official reason for the call, I know this doesn't happen, but I remember when VAR was introduced in Champions League for the first time, there were accurate statements about what was happening, now it would be a very good idea to release at least some informations about very unclear incidents. But it's always hard to admit mistakes... let's wait and see for the next Guida appointment.
Vincic, Vincic, Vincic
ReplyDeleteIt's getting boring
No need to comment about Vincic, I think we already said it all.
ReplyDeleteIt's incredible that he continues even with the change of VAR, with big game after big game.
For the rest, the regular path of Makkelie continues, with a good game in Liverpool, further appearances for Peljto and Bastien, both deserved, chance for Lambrechts in Dortmund and I can agree with this assignment.
Oliver with a game that can become extremely challenging, to me that's the reason behind the assignment, how both Spanish and Duch sides play.
Taylor in Bratislava: confirmation that committee is obliged to keep him very away from spotlight, with "minor" CL assignments, honestly I'm still surpised how some of you could think he would have got PSG - Atlético, simply impossible for the recent times of the English referee. Now only candidate for that game is Kovacs, as Oliver is out as well (no other names, unless extremely big surprises).
Normal assignment for Siebert, he gets very often a big team in a rather medium - easy context, but here a win by English side is more than expected.
And Aghayev back in Champions League in a suitable game, that's how committee treats Bologna. Never Elite referees for them so far, all Cat. 1 on previous three matchdays.
Chefren - You can't keep Taylor away from all countries where mistakes happen it's an absurd assumption for a trusted Elite referee. He can't officiate Italian teams, he can't officiate German teams and now Spanish teams - Soon he will run out!! hence why a PSG v Athletico fixture would have been suitable. However, UEFA seem to want to keep him away from the spotlight and that's fine - which is different to saying he can't referee this and that. We could potentially see him refereeing a Spanish team later on in the tournament.
DeleteAgree woth Alfie here.
DeleteCome on you cant hide him from the spanish and italian teams. Absurd!
And wait for an assignment of Guida?
You making a joke? After the horrible performance of last match
First: I didn't ask for a next appointment of Guida, I just wrote I'm curious when it will happen and in which competition, to understand then the assessment by committee, don't worry, we don't influence them here, so you don't need to write that I'm making a joke. Also, are you talking about a single incident of the full performance?
DeleteThen, about Taylor, I'm not against the appointment of the English again with Spanish or German or Italian teams, but at moment honestly I think it's impossible because, with another mistake, he would be totally out. I even thought he wouldn't have handled CL for a certain time, but he has the trust by committee. Nevertheless, the committee can't take risks at moment, a long time should pass, but reflecting on the moment of Taylor career, don't you think that he had already many opportunities? I'm not against him, but committee had the chance to make a very easy assignment for CL final when it was possible, but he didn't get. OK, a strong name was planned, the Slovenian, but still you can say that Taylor didn't have the full trust by committee, otherwise he would have got it. Maybe it's also a question of culture, you can't understand how in Italy the English referee is considered, commented and mentioned every now and then... it's a very difficult management for committee. But... in a world where the UEFA committee wouldn't care about the teams and only about their plans, Taylor would have already officiated an Italian team again, that's sure. Modern refereeing is clearly different than th past. I think he could get some Champions League games, but not big ones, and maybe the tim for his retirement will come (age, long experience). That's my opinion.
You know Larrionda germany england one incident have consequences for the net matches.
DeleteEven with Marciniak last year semi final.
Such a big foul in a match it has to be consequences.
Your story about Taylor i can follow you and you have some good arguments
Lindhout now 4th official after some weak performances. Thats include they aren't happy with him.
DeleteIt has be the same for Marco Guida, but his foul was bigger
DeleteCome on Chefren, Vincic was planned for that Final regardless of whether an English team were in the final or not!
I'm not against helping an official recover BUT at some point they must relax.
Look at the way Kovacs has been treated - he is out for a few MD appointments and then back with a decent game. We are even speculating he gets PSG v Athletico after PSG v Barcelona last year where the Spanish were really unhappy with his performance - what is the difference?
The general concensus was that Taylor had a good Europa League final - yet he is punished because of Italian press nonsense with a Ref Chief who basically isn't backing him to referee Italian teams - I can understand the Roma logic for a time - but the whole other teams is ridiculous!
I'm half Italian so completely understand how the Italian's perceive him (wrongly).
Well the landscape is changing - Taylor not getting big games, we can to a degree say the same for Makkelie & Turpin so they are clearly looking at youth which is ok too.
For Erik Lambrechts, this appointement as no surprise. He has performed well in his last few games for UCL, this is his second game in UCL this season. And he refereed a match not important game this Friday in the Belgian national competition. If he performs well in Borussia, we can expect a more important match.
DeleteLawrence Visser has not officiated as a central referee this week, so we can also expect a match in UCL or UEL.
As for Lothar D'hondt, he could possibly receive a UECL match. Wait and see.
I think everything has been said about Vincic, quite honestly it's ridiculous!!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised at the lack of Spanish involvement so far (and judging by the VAR's - it's possible they won't be involved in Wednesday's fixtures.
PSG v Athletico certainly looks like Kovacs now, ( if he does, was he really punished and what's the difference between him and Taylor with the Euro fallout - just because perceived bigger countries?) English, French, Spanish, Dutch & German all out for that match, so Italian team possible with Massa (wouldn't surprise me) or relatively young with Eskas, Shrarer & Meler all possible (in theory).
VAR's suggest another Portugese appointment - could Pinheiro get his 3rd game already?
Italian team looks likely too along with perhaps another German appointment.
UEFA haven't appointed a debut yet in this round, perhaps no further debuts at this stage until things are decided.
So perhaps Osmers, Saggi & Walsh get a second appointment
does anyone know what Marciniak's status is now, today he is refereeing a match in the Polish league
ReplyDeleteOT slightly, not sure if it was reported elsewhere:
ReplyDeleteIn what I would call a strange move - Martin Atkinson has taken the position of VAR Manager in Scotland (replacing Jon Moss who took on the referees Manager post in Australia).
So, could there have been issues with Martin and Howard?
Could we see another retirement (after Welch) of perhaps a certain Mr Taylor?
Sure, Taylor is hidden but it could be for a reason, e.g. to give him the UCL final 2025 if no English teams are in it (to end his career on a high note).
ReplyDeleteI know Doveri is noted for his lenient style, but his performance today in Napoli-Atalanta was really something else entirely: a completely unfocused performance from the start of the game with so many missed fouls and incidents (also by teammates). I was quite shocked. It wasn't that far away from the 'famous' refereeing by Kim Dong-jin in AC2019 for those who remember.
ReplyDeleteEven if there will be no external controversy from this match, and the tension on the pitch only really showed after the 0-3 goal at the very end, I would still deem Doveri's performance very pejoratively: '4-level' (with a 7,7 grade).
You are 100% right, I watched this game today, Doveri has been this kind of referee for years, now he can do literally what he wants on the pitch, because players respect him as he is Doveri. He never had succes as international referee also for this reason, a totally weird style, just officiating a game and waiting for the end withoutm caring to what happens... but if the heads of referees accept such handling of games, we must give up. He exactly knows that he should issue cards, but he ignores and he just go on. Then you find 2 or 3 bookings in 90'+2 and 90'+4 and what the sense of that, after not having officiated the game?
DeleteThe problem is that normal people can't understand that and they say he is good referee, I appreciated more Orsato because at least he had a certain style.. Doveri doesn't care at all about what he does.Today it was more visible, but for me nothing new.
Yep,obvious pulling before 0 3 not whistled and Napoli players lost their mind.

ReplyDeleteBut what are the other people with a high profile in referee commity?
I mean the organizational chart ...
I see a lot of observers but are they also commity members?
Damkova, Kuipers, Sajn and Velasco are the other committee members.
DeleteThanks for your answer
DeleteBoth of Oliver's normal assistants seem to be injured/ unavailable. He worked with 2 Non Fifa Assistants on the Man City game yesterday.
ReplyDeleteYes , his AR2 Dan Cook has been out for a while. Stuart Burt his AR1 was replaced late on Saturday before the game. Both ARS are presumably currently unavailable
DeletePremier League referees have an injury crisis at the moment with many officials having been injured, currently out are
Tierney
Scott
Salisbury (returning slowly)
Bramall (returning slowly
Gillett?- hasn’t had an on-field appointment in a while
AR wise many are unavailable too
Burt
Cook
Hussin
Lennard
That’s 4 of the FIFA ARS ruled out. Can’t imagine we see any further English appointments this week. Davies the only one remaining
Dan Robathan has done a few UEFA games recently so i assume he'll be a fifa assistant next year instead of Lennard.
DeleteStuart Burt will return in Sunday with Oliver.
DeleteStuttgart - Atalanta: Rade Obrenovic (VAR: Ruperti, AVAR: van Boekel)
ReplyDeleteShaktar Donetsk - Young Boys: Orel Grinfeeld (VAR: Tiago Martins, AVAR: Dieperink)
Totally unnecessary VAR call for Taylor.
ReplyDeleteGrey zone, absolutely supportable no penalty call and Taylor stayed with his decision, even with OFR.
OFR that took more than two minutes before confirming the original decision.
DeleteTo me, it would have been a too soft penalty for VAR call: I agree with rejection.
I have to agree for the full 100%! A completely inconceivable intervention and strong refereeing by Taylor to decline the penalty call.
DeleteUCL Debut as well as VAR for Michael Salisbury
DeleteThe incident checked by VAR during added time of first half in Oliver game is considered as 100% penalty here in Italy with mandatory VAR intervention...
ReplyDeleteInexplicable decision : sorry ! How on earth we can stay on field wrong call…
DeleteCan we rule out the possibility that Dams touched the ball at the same time or even slightly earlier? I couldn't tell for sure that he was late.

ReplyDeleteSlovan (SVK) - Dinamo (CRO)
R: A.Taylor (ENG) VAR: M.Salisbury (ENG)
3' Good management correct public warning to Slo10 (late kick) and Din22 (pushing)
7' Potential YC to Din20 for illegal use of arms, but no replay
26' Penalty appeal in Dinamo penalty area, PK dennied even after OFR, IMO clear push from Din3 on Slo11, OMG what a mistake
42' Penalty appeal in Dinamo penalty area PK correctly denied no handball
48' Funny situation, Ref needed to swap watches
Delete61' Crystal clear YC for SPA given to Slo4
66' YC given to Din3 for dissent, on first view looked like mistaken identity, but clear fist throw toward Ref, also YC should been given to Din20 for SPA
86' Correct YC given to Slo77 for reckless challenge
90+1' Correct YC given to Din8 for reckless/late challenge
Also need to review the 1st PSV goal in Oliver game, some people reporting, that PSV player stepped inside during the throw in just before the goal
ReplyDeleteTrue. Clearly irregular throw-in. Goal had to be cancelled by VAR or Assistant referee…
DeleteTNT commentary thought it should have been disallowed at first but then later said the back of his foot was on the line.
DeleteTNT commentator is right, the back of the heel was still on the touchline. And apart from that, VAR protocol does not allow an intervention in case the player wouldn’t have touched the line when throwing in.
DeleteWorth rewatching is Oliver’s management (40.) after a stamping foul of PSV#9 and the asking-for-caution by GIR#4.
Correct 2nd YC for GIR#4, no doubt. The more peculiar the scene in 40. where he initially seemed to escape a yellow after asking for a card, but later apparently was booked after all.
DeleteCorrect 2yc by Oliver for the Girona captain
ReplyDeleteReally necessary, the PSV#2 caution in 58? Didn’t appear as a reckless challenge to me.
ReplyDeletehttps://streambug.org/cv/6ce318
ReplyDeleteHere the OFR in Bratislava, absolutely wrong call by English VAR, reasonable by Taylor to refuse, he was surely aware that such kind of incident doesn't belong to the clear and obvious mistakes UEFA asks for. But.. UEFA assumed the risk by appointing rather "domestic" English VAR for both Taylor and Oliver today. And here again another proof... honestly it's simply impossible to understand why today they made this choice.
Of course a penalty you can give, but to be confirmed only if whistled by referee, are these arguments too difficult to understand for English VARs? That's something I would like to know...
Correct decision, incorrect intervention, correct staying at original decision after OFR.
DeleteIn case of penalty awarded, I would have prefered VAR intervention because such soft penalties for negligible contacts shouldn't be whistled. Of course, this VAR would have confirmed it which is not the best evidence about his competencies.
3-0 by PSV disallowed after OFR for a step on foot, many things to be reviewed in Oliver game, I think this one should be a correct call from the VAR.
ReplyDeleteWhen they are abroad they whistled for everything. In the premier league its not even a OFR. Rudiculous from Oliver.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Oliver's fault. He is subjected to two completely different standards, in Europe they expect certain calls and in England they expect the same calls as play on. Frankly a very difficult task to prepare for every match while balancing the contrasting standards.
DeleteUnacceptable that at CL level a referee needs VAR intervention to cancel the goal in Bologna. Luckily there’s VAR, but it was a very easy decision
ReplyDeleteCL referees were never ever so bad! This is the lowest quality of refereeing ever!
Deletehttps://streamin.me/v/aec70fb8
DeleteThe Azeri referee followed the action far away, he should have entered the penalty area when corner was kicked, to be closer. Didn't give the idea that he was in visual control of what inside the box, and indeed...
I am dying to here justifying PK for Real on famous diver Vinicius. Vincic is doing his job...
ReplyDeletehttps://streamff.com/v/84af541d
ReplyDeletePenalty by Vincic, rather a situation created by attacker, indeed you can see he was already starting to fall without contact, but then there was kind of contact and VAR couldn't intervene.
Actually I thought this was just a correct call. I didn’t recognize Vinicius falling before being hit in the inside of the calf. And the contact sufficed for calling it. But will rewatch.
DeleteFor me correct PK
Deleteclear dive, Vinicius makes the contact. He is used to fooling the referees.
DeleteReferee in Bologna game is miles off the level
ReplyDeleteExcellent spot by AR1 for the handball in the build up to a Leverkusen goal. Easy first half as expected for the Dutch crew
ReplyDeleteMakkelie made it public that it was cooperation inside the team, by thanking him, VAR confirmed. Very nice.
DeleteTo me, a rather soft penalty by Siebert to Sporting.
ReplyDeleteWe are not at the level of the famous RC in Milan - Chelsea, but still for me better to play on.
Never a penalty in Lille comeon
ReplyDeleteWhat a joke!
DeleteVery controversial penalty to Juventus by Peljto. Another VAR would have invited him to OFR, I think. The Dutch confirmed the call of the Bosnian.
ReplyDeletehttps://streamin.me/v/iilqryyq
Is the argument the player is completely looking for the contact and then will go down once he feels it? The defender actually had his leg away from his body but I see your point. I would not have expected an intervention if this was called no penalty on the field. Not sure the referee does himself a favor from his angle on the field to see what we see on tv
DeleteThat's exactly my opinion. Attacker going against defender, but the leg of defender in that position could justify the NO VAR intervention. In reality, never a penalty for me, a masked simulation but very difficult to read if referee is not with the best view.
DeleteIt is not controversial, it is DIVE! But of course, for Real and Juve these are penalties, for minor clubs - NEVER! Obviously for VAR refs it is only important to see SOME CONTACT, nevertheless why it occurred and who produced it. When I wrote about non whistled PK for Red Star against Monaco, many here wrote that the contact was minimal. Well, it was much stronger than these two. About PK for City: no one knows anymore when the arm is punishable. This ball would go at the top of the roof, the distance is minimal, who ever played football knows that the position of arm is NORMAL... You can't tie it with the body.
DeleteAgreed if the defender keeps his leg closer to his body or less extended, he increases the chance of no penalty. It can be a challenge on the field as a referee myself to know when it’s real contact versus the bowling ball attacker looking for the call.
DeleteSorry, it´s not controversial, it's a clear dive. I'm sure that here in South America the VAR would have intervened, otherwise it would be a scandal that would be talked about for weeks.
DeleteThis is dive IMO. No excuse for VAR not to intervene. Creating contact by attacker is one of the cases of simulation. There are many examples in RAP.
DeleteIn Real - Milan penalty situation two outcomes are possible: penalty or diving. Both such decision could be confirmed. It was sliding tackle and defender took a risk of tripping opponent. Attacker used that.
VAR awards second goal to Liverpool after wrongly being flagged offside by AR1. Was extremely tight. Came from an excellent advantage by Makkelie and AR2 from an offside at the other end.
ReplyDeleteExcellent, excellent, excellent advantage from the offside! I always want this, very few officials like to play on from this, but a perfect example from Makkelie
DeleteCorrect award of 3-0 no foul too
DeleteSecond soft penalty by Siebert in Lisbon. That holding is not enough to make the attacker fall.
ReplyDeleteThe first he gave was more penalty than this one: https://streamff.com/v/708f3409
DeleteHe also made an OFR for a handball penalty.
We should always ask ourselves if we can accuse the defender of being careless in the duel, for me this is given in both cases so a penalty call might not be mandatory in those cases, but the defender shouldn't be surprised about it
DeleteThey are turning football into monumental ridicule

Perhaps this is the reason for the absence of Spanish referees. It makes sense
ReplyDeleteTL;dr:UEFA (and specifically Velasco) are furious with CTA for the Cucurella handball assessment at UEFA RefNetwork being leaked to Relevo website, and as a result Spanish referees got collectively punished.
DeleteSad thing is that I believe this article without any doubts in my mind… Uefa and Uefa RefCom, stratocracy of the highest level.
DeleteThe word “Omerta” in the article describes perfectly the nature of the organization and the resemblance of another, disgusting 🤮
Why so much secrecy for a handball as clear as water?
DeleteAbsolutely. So clear mistake
DeleteWOW, I absolutely couldn't think about that, but it explains everything.. Nevertheless, it's clearly unfair to punish all for the responsibility of a few if not only one person...
DeleteI also don't understand why this had to be kept secret at all costs?
DeleteTransparency is good in these kinds of cases. But apparently UEFA wanted to create some kind of “smokescreen” and leave people in doubt. What could be the reason? To protect Taylor?
Indeed I Guess this is the main reason. They get in trouble with appointments of referees so they want to protect them.... Otherwise no reasons to keep a secret.
DeleteThe coin toss in LIV-LEV is worth noticing. The German team made it very clear that Xhaka would be their "spokesperson" during the match, because their goalkeeper Hrádecký is the captain and therefore cannot communicate with the officials.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Xhaka was standing there along with the goalie made it clear to the audience already before the match. Does it happen more often these days?
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI saw Makkelie talking to Xhaka in the tunnel area well before entering the field. Maybe he organized the toin coss procedure back there and told Xhaka to join? For the image and for clarity?

I liked the strong approach against undermining the referee's authority in 2' and 40'. In the latter case, the body language was weak though (waiting for VAR confirming the step on foot?)
Delete13' should've been a YC for DtR but given the warning for dissenting behaviour of PSV player in 2', it was perhaps a tactical move to save Girona player as well.
Technically, it should've been a penalty in 45+1'. Girona player plays the ball and is carelessly kicked in the heel. However, given that the attacker plays the ball away from the goal, on the edge of the penalty area, being turned back to goal gives the impression that awarding a penalty for such a minor (careless nature) offence where the attacking player would have had no chance to play the ball again, would've been against common sense. Therefore, I could live with no penalty in this scenario, to be honest. However, for the reason of uniformity, UEFA should address this incident to their referees, explaining every detail.
54' is not a clear SPA to be honest. Another defender is there and maybe even closer to the ball played by the attacking player. The only argument is the character of the foul - cynical, last-resort tripping - and speed of the action. Supportable call, of course, but the same can be said about no (2)YC.
Wrong caution in 58'.
Correct by Coote to intervene in 76'. The step on foot is fully accidental but can't be forgiven in the VAR era. Full contact and defender doesn't move the foot towards the attacking player - no argument to support the play-on call. Well done.
The most involved players in the conflict cautioned in 90'.
Good performance by Oliver. The only real mistake is a YC in 58'. The rest, including tricky key match incidents, is supportable / good.
To add:
Delete15' irregular throw - in before goal scored
https://streambug.org/cv/9afb7d
https://streambug.org/cv/6b909d
About the incidents, to me 45' must be penalty, hard to find a strong argument for the play on. As you said, UEFA should give clear guidelines to referees about such incidents. In Italy, as said, all of them are mandatory OFR because it's hard to make distinction and the late challenge without playing ball is alone enough to punish a player. But yes, not the same in England. The problem is that UEFA committee doesn't seem to give guidelines, because you can be sure Italian VARs here would have intervened, so?
To add, about the other very important incident, very good by VAR to invite Oliver to rewatch and disallow the goal, this one not easy to see.
Apart from that, all OK in the rest of the game for what I could see, to be praised Oliver for thinking and giving advantages in all the moments of the game, not common by other referees.

ReplyDelete47' Penalty for charging from behind
https://streambug.org/cv/8e31ab
69' Penalty after OFR for handball
https://streambug.org/cv/84e86f
Just a small remark, incredible to hear the commentators in English, discussing about the penalty, if for some people this is not a clear punishable handball, it's definitely impossible to look for any consistency in that regard. Premier League a totally different world, once again one must say.
73' YC for SPA and YC for the reaction by City player
https://streambug.org/cv/20cff4
I think most of referees wouldn't have booked the City player, but punished him only in case of "classic" reaction leading to straight RC. It's rare to see a yellow "only" for such behavior, but fully understandable according to LotG.
79' Penalty for pushing / holding (I don't see contacts between legs)
https://streambug.org/cv/74752b
To me, last penalty is the very evident mistake, while the first one can be deemed as OK. Nevertheless, if we can like the style by the German, very strict in terms of LotG application, and he shows to be consistent in all games, this unfortunately leads him to very soft calls that are quite difficult to explain in modern football and very often not accepted by fans. I think now committee knows him and gives games based on that, I also wanted to say that I was sure Manchester City would have won the game, but well, this was a big surprise. Would have it been the same with another referee, maybe playing on in both penalty incidents and rather correct NO VAR interventions? At the end a certain style of a referee, can contribute to certain outcomes. But surely Portuguese team played an amazing game and one can't say that referee was poor.
69' Yeah, a penalty would never be given for that handball in England. Close proximity, and possibly even natural position for a falling motion would be the reasons against it. The idea is what can the player do to avoid it, and fans, players, managers, ex-players in England want it to super clear to be punishable. (Side note, the third commentator is Oasis' Noel Gallagher, there as a City fan and not as someone who understands the guidelines as the other two may)

The incident in 1' is very particular, definitely no reasons for Sturm Graz player to do what he did. 100% impossible to see for referee as the play was in the other half, somebody between FO and AR1 could have maybe helped. Correct by VAR to stay silent, not a violent conduct, but surely an important miss by officials.
DeleteRegarding the penalty in 38', according to the offside guidelines, even if this was not an offside situation, the touch / kick by teammate before handball should be a deflection. So, not a deliberate play, and for this reason a penalty was still possible there. Let's say the previous touch maybe doesn't make it as clear and obvious mistake, so VAR out from the obligation of a mandatory intervention, but can we say that referee made an accurate assessment?
48' clear yellow card but extremely harsh to spot, as well as 66', but in the latter case AR1 should have reported not only the foul (he did that), but also the card.
