  1. That's the first match of the season for Aytekin after an injury. I did not expect a direct European appointment.

    1. Exactly. Not the best management, to say it kindly.

  2. 2 Greek observers on the Group that involves Greece. Surely that could have been avoided.

    1. With all my respect, but some assignment are made without brain. More than that, some referees are pushed forward despite the fact it's preety clear they are nothing special.
Rossetti is a big dissapointment for me.

    2. Indeed some appointments are very unusual /not logical. For example unexperienced referee Nyberg, that (i suppose not only in my opinion) made big mistake in Sarajevo-Celtic when he missed penalty for Sarajevo, now delegated for Bosnia game.

  3. Hot match for Ekberg.
Both teams need win, especially North Macedonia.
Also they play football with lots of fouls,it is very important so I'm expecting challenging match for him.

    1. Yes, Montenegro - Hungary will be handled by a very friendly referee. 😉

  5. Who could be chosen for Germany - Holland?

    1. I don't think the Hategan remake, I honestly thought Orsato

    2. Maybe Turpin? Then we would know, that no play-off for him meant nothing...

  6. Again Nyberg in Bosnia?! After Sarajevo-Celtic he is undesirable here

    1. Exactly, very strange choice for game in Zenica.

  7. 45+1' 2nd YC for Karapetyan by Siebert, reckless elbow.

  8. Second YC to Karapetian (Armenia) by Siebert is a mistake for me, but easily explained. There was an aeral duel and it looked like Armanian player had hit the opponent with elbow in face. Replay denied that, but in this case I think all referees live would have booked.
Italian player didn't help referee, he pretended a hit in face.
The first YC had been shown following a short mass confrontation.
I would have liked to see a more proactive referee, I was not convinced at all in this first half, apart from the mentioned incidents.
    Correctly disallowed goal by AR1.

    1. NORTHERN IRELAND - LUXEMBOURG
      Referee: BRYN MARKHAM-JONES (WAL)
      AR1: GARETH JONES (WAL)
      AR2: MARTIN ROBERTS (WAL)

  10. Better second half by Siebert with two mandatory bookings.
AR2 correctly reported a ball out before a possible goal scored by Italy but he did a crucial mistake in 90'+1 reporting a wrong offside and disallowing 4-1. Player quite clearly onside.

  11. 15' YC by del Cerro Grande after consulting Fourth Official--should've been red IMO

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Quite surprised it wasn't red. I think Cerro Grande's instinct was red. The Irish player could have decapitated his opponent. Sadly, this is the new era we're in...

      Delete
    2. It was not consultation with fourth official. Cerro Grande went to him as he forgot to bring his yellow and red card on to the field with him. Very embarrassing.

      Delete
    3. Oh thanks for the clarification, Raychore. i saw him walk over to him but didn't see that... Oh my.

      Delete
    4. It seems that del Cerro Grande's meditatively calm demeanor is really genuine, he can enter the pitch and only after some minutes remember that he forgot his cards, and even then deal with that procedure with full calmness and arousing assurance.

Of course, clear Red Card to be given for Serious Foul Play - but nowadays, even Swiss players who saw this grotesque kick to the head were not convinced that the referee would even consider sorting out a RC; we are certainly living in the era of relativisation in football officiating.

    5. The last replay is very important because we can understand that player has percpetion of the presence of opponent, this makes the challenge worthy of RC because very dangerous and made with awareness. It would have been different in case of similar action but with the opponent coming from behind or without chance to be seen before.

      Delete
    6. Arousing assurance?! He is an Elite Category referee. It is unacceptable to enter the Field of Play without cards. How is this even possible?

      Delete
    7. We agree, of his course it is unacceptable for any referee at any level (and if I do that, I don't have a fourth official to give me cards like him).

I was just remarking, flippantly, that he is clearly very relaxed guy as he shows in his matches. I still believe he managed to whole scene, if you take as a constant that he has forgotten his cards which is still unacceptable, well and assuredly.

But again - that was a clearly under-punished SFP tackle.

  12. 27' Correct (and spot-on) PK by Aytekin, maybe missed YC.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Very well spoted by Aytekin, not easy to see live. I agree that it must be a YC for that.

      Delete
    2. Now Aytekin has booked Ramos for 'excessive goal celebration' (?) and Marin for reckless obstruction (supportable card but bad management, very late card and seems issued only after AR/FO advice).

      Delete
    3. Actually, it seemed issued only after Spanish players dissent. He's missing some fouls, though. A foul (on Busquets) + YC for reckless use of arms.

      Delete
  13. Phantom foul and RC for DOGSO. But well, from Aytekin's position, you have only to whistle and in case to trust your AR if he sees something.
This is football without VAR, I can't blame too much the German in this case.

  14. Another excellent decision, straight RC for Llorente & FK for a foul as last defender.

    1. I don't see the foul there to be honest...

      Delete
    2. Me neither (maybe biased as I'm Spanish)

      Delete
    3. Wowww clearest foul one could see. Spot on by Aytekin

      Delete
  15. https://streamable.com/bmdo8

Here is the video, best replay is at 0:59. Llorente indeed touches the ball, but after that he looks to continue the movement and trips Puscas with his left leg. Nevertheless, seeing the replays, I think that play on could have also been a supportable call as the contact is minimal.

All together I would say was a good performance from Aytekin, well spotted PK for Spain. As a minus I saw a missed YC for Puscas in the 1st half, who elbowed Busquets and caused him to bleed.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Actually, best replay is at 1:03. Llorente clearly touches the ball. What I can't spot in that replay is contact with Puscas. In the previous replay (the one at 0:59), which plays at normal speed, it looks like a clear foul. However, that second replay proves that it is not and that it is a crucial mistake.

    2. The thing I took out of this is what an awful look for the game it is. The players completely surrounding the referee and trying to stop him sending off the player. Even making physical contact with the ref. This is a terrible look for the game. I hope he handed out some yellows for that. Otherwise children watching will think it's okay and do it themselves.

      Delete
    3. Big Aytekin fan here. Hard to tell in real time, but unfortunately a bad call. Ball plus minimal unintentional contact only

      Delete
    4. No cards were shown as far as I remember. Ramos was booked earlier for his goal celebration, in which he made a glasses gesture that was not directed to the referee nor the crowd… but of course, he can't really expect that the referee knows that in advance.

  16. Good, expected level performance by Martinez Munuera on Finland-Greece. Correct penalty whistled at 51'. Good foul detection and very good disciplinary control. Good management of the players mostly with small talk and in some cases he used body language with stricter warnings.

Very good usage of the advantage rule. I counted at least 5 cases.

I still don't understand why this referee is at 2nd Group.

    1. Because they decided to push Sánchez Martínez instead, CTA-RFEF clearly sees more potential and has more confidence on him (already handled 4 Clásicos while Martínez Munuera's most sonorous game since his promotion to LaLiga in 2013 has been the Madrid derby of last year).

      Delete
    2. Something I will never understand. Sánchez Martínez is younger and has less international experience. Estrada is retiring at the end of next season (20/21). The logical choice was to promote Martínez Munuera last season and Sánchez Martínez afterwards. Also, Martínez Munuera got better appointments this summer than Sánchez Martínez. The third one in the equation is Hernández Hernández, but he seems far less important than them.

With respect to the Clásicos, I can only think that he has asked not to handle them. Otherwise, I cannot understand how on earth De Burgos got one when he was clearly not ready for that yet Martínez Munuera is still waiting for his chance, also being FIFA before him.

      Delete
    3. Well based on what I saw yesterday, IMO CTA-RFEF made the wrong choice. They could have waited another year before pushing Sánchez Martínez. After all, he was promoted with only a few international matches (10?).

This is what I don't like. National FA's to interfere with UEFA Refs Committee decisions. IMO, this is ridiculous.

      Delete
    4. Sánchez Martínez is a very good referee too, but that's the thing, he could have waited and gained more experience. Martínez Munuera is older, but not that old. He's 37 now, 8 seasons to go. A promotion in December or June would allow him even to reach Elite further in his career, with Del Cerro retiring at the same time as Estrada and Mateu the following season. Martínez Munuera would be 41 by then. However, I wouldn't bet on that.

    5. Missed blatant yc and rc on extra-time.. I dont know how you can call that "good, expected level".

  17. Excellent performance by Muntean in Norway-Malta.

  18. Did anyone see the second penalty in Gibraltar v Denmark. I can't believe the referee gave it. It looked like he got clean ball.

    1. Classic situation in which PLAY ON is expected decision, because the touch on the ball is very clear and defender makes a clearance, but at the same time very small arguments to call penalty if in the opinion of the referee challenge disturbed the opponent. However, for me no penalty and I would assess it as mistake.
