Missing Elite referees in the list:
ReplyDeleteAleksei Kulbakov BLR
Sergei Karasev RUS
Sandro Schärer SUI
About the Swiss, I don't know if this can be related to the long injury or just a miss, while for the Russian and the Belarusan we can guess reasons.
The category 1 selection is very similar to past year with some new names and others who have left. Among the latters, Kruashvili and Tohver, just to mention two, while among the formers Lambrechts (replacing Visser) Urs Schnyder and Carvalho Nobre, among others.
The pool of very trusted VAR, we can call them the Elite of UEFA about this role, presents some new names as well, but the very known ones are all there.
Should that not be 32nd not 32th. Everyone a critic on decisions yet cannot get the simplest correct grammer

ReplyDeleteHuge scandal in finnish refereeing.
Biggest newspaper in Finland Helsingin Sanomat wrote a big article and it’s going viral.
Former referees and current UEFA observers Elit referee coach Mattias Gestranius, referees committee chairman Petteri Kari and and former referee boss Jouni Hyytiä accused for sexual harrasment, bullying, nepotism and discrimination.

Among elite's attendance, Karasev missing was fully expected and partially also for Koulbakov even of he seemed back in the arena with few appearances. Surprized for Sharer, I would expected a smooth re starting maybe officiating Conference League or Europe League, while now he seems completely out ofr the 2nd half of the season. Does anybody know if he is actually officiating in the domestic swiss league ? I'm very curious to see how Hategen will be appointed and if he still has few chance to appear in Euro024 or maybe Olympic games. I guess that in anycase he is a safe VAR.
ReplyDeleteConcerning first class, I was expecting more brave form Rosetti to push some new name like as Walsh, Delajod, Saggi and Jablonski. No dutch men in 1st class, a gap behind Makkelie. I dind't expected Glova; is he so good ?

Penalty situation in Belgium.
ReplyDeleteDuring a free kick, the ball is headed away by the defender after another defender hits the ball against his arm. His arm is away from the body, but does not play any role.
Referee: Brent Staessens - VAR: Bram Van Driessche

RWDM wants to have the match replayed, but the chance will be very small.
Frank De Bleeckere provides information about the penalty situation and he believes that the penalty should be given.
DeleteClear penalty if we stay only at the position of the arm and the movement of the player, but the previous deliberate play by teammate was in my opinion the reason for which officials played on. Nevertheless, I see that an OFR took place so possible for VAR this was penalty but referee disagreed. Here in Italy a very used argument for not considering punishable an arm is indeed the fact that ball comes from a teammate, so a defender, and not an opponent, but in this particular case to me still penalty, because it is not an immediate action and I would say arm shouldn't have stayed in that position (defender had to avoid that).
DeleteHaving said that, you can see the danger when you start to replay games after alleged technical mistakes by officials, now I guess that all clubs in Belgium feel the right to ask for repeating a game. In this case it would be out of reality, this is just a normal assessment, without any technical lack by referees.
More guidelines by refereeing heads would help in this regard, for example here they could have known what to do if a possible punishable handball happened after a previous touch and play by another defender. Better to instruct referees regarding all cases, but then the very challenging incident can always happen...
Thanks for the answer.
DeleteThe problem is that there are arguments among the referee bosses. For example, VAR manager Fredy Fautrel has already been fired. Bertrand Layec also seems to be fired.
The referees no longer correspond with the 2 Frenchmen.
As a result, they are looking for new bosses to improve Belgian referees and VAR.
Japan, referees promoted to professional league system (J1/J2/J3):
ReplyDeleteReferees: Shinya Sasaki (1989), Daichi Shiino (1998), Yoshito Nakagawa (1997) & Yoshihito Hori (1988)
ARs: Shuto Aragami (1990), Kohei Ando (1994), Tomohiro Ota (1983), Nozomi Osada (1987), Yuta Ono (1993), Kakuro Hori (1985) & Takuma Yanaoka (1992)
At 51 years old, Yuichi Nishimura is still on the list (!)
A well solved offside - penalty situation by Ibrahim Mutaz and AR2 in Mali - Burkina Faso, minute 24'. Referee ready to whistle penalty, then he received AR2 call about the offside. The only small remark is that referee could have waited before making the early gesture of indicating penalty, but thank to this, it was clear he had assessed the scene. Also, noteworthy, a thumb-up to AR2 after confirmation by VAR. This referee seems to have definitely interesting skills, important reactions by him when expected.
ReplyDeleteAbout the penalty, I didn't rewatch carefully it was an expected call by referee but I had a small impression that attacker used a bit the contact (nevertheless, to me very hard to see a simulation whistled here). We wil see in detail watching the clips.

First three clips are the KMIs; last video is a couple of other incidents that caught my eye. Overall it was a good performance by Ibrahim Mutaz in a normal-difficulty match. Khalil Hassani from Tunisia played a good onside for the second Mali goal, to add. I'm about to catch-up with Morocco vs. South Africa and will report back afterwards.
After tewo handball penalties directly whistled on his previous game, I think we can forgive the referee from Lybia about this miss. Correct use of VAR, but more generally (mostluy related to other games), we have a lower level of "field-officiating" in this round of 16, with several OFRs. Nevertheless, I think as long as the final decisions is reached, everything is fine.
DeleteLet me add something about the style of the Lybian referee, you can see his gestures, I would describe them as a mix between an "old style" and the "African school", but it is extremely good that he makes them not in a hectic way but rather very calm and composed. Still, something that in UEFA you can't see anymore nowadays, as for example inviting the player to stand up like he did in the last cip you posted, but I like when a referee can be identified for something that it's inside his character and not a robot walking on the pitch as the European standard wants today. I see him as "middle way" between a referee who wants to keep his style and another who is forced to change, being similar to all the others, due to commitee's inputs.

Well, this one looks like the worst performance in Round of 16.
DeleteThe handball was totally missed but about the other penalty area incidents, one can notice that referee ws rather reluctant than willing to make calls. Then the DOGSO RC wrongly judged as YC.
I agree that the rest of incidents were no VAR stuff while two interventions are correct.
It is interesting to underline the management of the protests after the touch by arm. Referee was definitely attacked by Moroccan players. While for some aspects he tried to refrain from a blatant reaction, he had some moments in which it looked like he wanted to go head to head with players, you can see, stopping the backward movement and pointing the player facing him. I think very bad behavior by the Moroccan players, with VAR they should have stayed rather calm.
Direct RC for DOGSO should have been given live, no further defenders after the one who made foul.
Terrible commentator, he didn't guess at all that the intervention was for changing in straight RC a second YC, he said a time wasting and same outcome. How much poor and ignorant are people about refereeing, I'm always astonished, people paid for making technical comments about a game in TV.

DeleteTerrible first 20 seconds !! for Al Ali ref from Kuwait in Bahrain-Japan. Firstly clear encroachment from Bahrain player at kick off, Japan player plays the ball twice and then missed YC for Japanese full back!
ReplyDeleteAgree. I was indeed surprised to see a quite good performance by an East Asian referee in a game like IRNSYR. Correct early PK for Iran for careless push, then a correct PK for Syria after VAR intervention (initial decision was offside) and correct late 2YC for Taremi.
ReplyDeleteAll YCs correct/supportable: IRN4 in 16' (SPA/persistent holding, not 100% of either one, but both combined resulted in an expected card for the players), SYR25 in 24' (reckless stamp, mandatory), IRN1 62' (the PK situation, reckless stamp, close to SFP), IRN6 in 71' (illegal use of arm, supportable), IRN21 in 72' (reckless challenge, mandatory), IRN9 in 81' (simulation, spot-on), IRN9 in 90+1 (2YC, SPA, absolutely mandatory, probably the 'easiest' 2YC decision in the tournament) and SYR21 in 90+8' (continuous dissent after an uncalled possible foul)
Michael Oliver is back this weekend! Been so long without seeing him on a field of play
ReplyDeleteGood to see him back on Everton vs Spurs, Assistants Dan Cook and Wade Smith, missing his usual AR Stuart Burt who has the weekend off
Delete*weekend off from the middle, he is AVAR with Chris Kavangh on Sunday.
DeleteAnthony Taylor in charge of Arsenal vs Liverpool on Sunday, with his usual AR’s. Somehow David Coote (who made a clear error on VAR in the same game a month ago) is on VAR a for that game.
DeleteDoes PGMOL watch the errors made by their referees in previous games? Repeating the same referee who made an error is so bad
