  1. Is it possible that Turpin and Mariani were swapped ?

    1. Indeed the contrary appointments would be perfect ones, good point, in case the reason fort this switch would be that game in Dortmund is considered by committee not worthy of a very big name, originally appointed.

  2. Taylor with Trefoloni - there still might be some focus on him? Unless the English is a replacement.

    1. Indeed not the observer you can expect for Taylor, I agree.
It looks like another switch or replacement, who knows...

  3. We have a replacement in Turpin's team.
AR2 is not Benjamin Pagès, there is Aurélien Drouet.

  4. Interesting situation in the 31' minute of Fiorentina game.
Classic "Italian" behavior of a player from home-team, exaggerating a contact inside the box to get penalty. Something that works in Italy, and very often even OFR, but in this case good not to whistle. Nevertheless, more presence by referee was needed, he had to run back into the scene because a confrontation was about to start.
One can praise NO PENALTY decision, though.

  5. 32' spot on Pinheiro, theatrical action by FIO player try to fool him.

  6. 63' Poor broadcast in FIO-CEL, no replay for Mandragora incident that the commentator believe he could be more in trouble (arm to face), only YC given by Pinheiro. It was second poor noticeable broadcast after they failed to broadcast the coin toss.

    1. Agree, hard to judge the incident without closer replay but my feeling is that YC was rather OK.
Now wrong flag by AR1 and VAR intervention to allow 2-2 by Fiorentina. Very late replay by broadcaster about the regular position.
Tie is still open. It can be a challenging last part for the Portuguese.

    2. 79' Another VAR intervention for disallowing a goal by Fiorentina, still AR1 involved.

    3. Two incorrect offside flags by AR1. I don't think either incident was a close call, poor performance from AR1 today. As for the broadcaster, what a masterclass in how not to cover a match. A complete disaster from the camera director, looked more like a student project than a professional production, very amateurish at this level.

    4. Now a good one by AR1, correctly disallowed 3-2 by Fiorentina in 89'. It was a very challenging second half for him.

    5. again AR1, so close 3 VAR intervention, this one very close good spot.

    6. Only +6? I don't think that was enough additional time, it should have been +7 or +8.

  7. VAR intervention in Vienna for changing a YC in RC for SFP.
Absolutely correct by Salisbury to call Taylor, but what a miss by AR1 Beswick, he was looking there, reported the foul, YC but failed to see it was clear RC. He clearly saw the point of contact!
One can't blame too much Taylor but surely him!

Fourh official as well, but I saw a replay from Beswick point of view (not included in this clip).

    2. Looks like Rob Jones is the Fourth Official and not Kavanagh.

    3. Second OFR for Taylor, a classic handball penalty.
      Correct call again by Salisbury.

    4. Salisbury did well. Some of the English VARs have struggled in the very different standards between England/Uefa. Never a penalty (close proximity) domestically, classic penalty as you say (arm not close to body) in Uefa

    5. Looks like Gillett and Salisbury are "liked" the most by Uefa at the moment. Salisbury is doing the U21 Euros and Gillett Women's Euros. Attwell now out of favour and obviously Coote is no longer an official. Because of all this it's not surprising that no English VAR is doing the Club WC.

    6. About the second RC for SFP during ET, this time directly by Taylor:

It's interesting to point out that this decision can be influenced by the previous one after OFR, in the sense that Taylor was inclined to think that players from same team could have committed another similar offence. However, this one was surely less red card than the previous, rather low (normal) point of contact for a tackle, but you have surely a certain force that can be described as excessive. A decision VAR can support, but not sure that all people agree.

To add, here the missing video, about the penalty for handball after OFR:

  8. Great work by Hernandez and his crew on the Legia penalty. Good advantage in the buildup, right inside call by the AR, and really well done by Hernandez to fight for the perfect angle to see that the goalkeeper tripped the attacker without playing any of the ball.

  9. Early prediction
Betis - Fiorentina: Stieler / Meler
Chelsea - Djurgardens: Massa / Eskas
Final: Letexier (or Schärer or Zwayer)

    1. Personally, I don't think the Conference League final is appropriate for a referee who just officiated the EURO final, even if he's still very young and has ten years or more of international refereeing in front of him. I'd rather see young, upcoming talents in this competition, or maybe referees reaching the end of their careers who had a good season but otherwise used to rank among the lower half of the elite category. Letexier, in my opinion, should only be considered for the Champions League or the Europa League - but not for the Conference League.

    2. I agree with Peter, given how committee wanted to manage Letexier, at this point Conference League final would be a nonsense. One could have expected him maybe only in CL and not even in EL. But now there are two issues, the performance in Madrid and PSG that very likely will qualify for the final.
Letexier season could be over, but not a big issue since he already got everything, in my opinion. Committee would make a more than intelligent choice to keep him for CL finals on next years. These are also the contrary and let's say "negative" aspects, when you reward a referee with such a big game so early, the EURO final... then everything to follow has to be read anda managed in a totally different way.

    3. Yes, I understand your argument on Letexier.
I was thinking, it would be a bit unfair / illogical to deny him a final just because of his successful EURO.
And in spite of the Wednesday game, he is one of the best performers this season and therefore would deserve a final, I think.
But certainly there are many different options for the ECL final.
