  1. Why Marciniak with Spanish VAR team?

    1. That's the most interesting point to discuss, indeed, and honestly, the answer is very easy...

    2. Uefa publicly supports VAR's double touch penalty decision, but privately doesn't? Unbelievable

      Delete
  2. Europa league and Conference league with some better names than UCL

    ReplyDelete
  3. Definitely not a bad appointment for Nyberg, there seem to be some focus on him

    1. For a moment, I found Nyberg's non-appointment for the Barcelona game somewhat incomprehensible. But looking at his appointment for the Lyon game, it shows that UEFA may have plans for him. If he doesn't play in any continental club finals, he might be one of the favorites to take charge of the Nations League final.

  4. With 3 British team's still in Michael Oliver can't see him or Anthony Taylor getting anymore game's.

    1. I feel Oliver will get a final this year. I don't think it will be the UCL, but probably Europa or Conference ( Conference difficult though with Chelsea very likely in the final )

  5. No Turpin/Letexier anywhere or Makellie or Vincic, the 4 names for the QF's 2nd legs?

    1. Marciniak/Kovacs/Oliver might still be used for the return legs.

  6. Personally disappointed by assignments; Marciniak and Kovacs could have been saved for UCL semifinals giving the possibility to some hided elite to appear

    ReplyDelete
  7. Given that normally the second leg gets the bigger name, the options for Frankfurt and Bilbao are basically only Letexier, Turpin and Vincic. However those three can also be expected in CL return legs. So will be interesting, how that turns out.
Probably the only solution is double appointments, which would show, they don't find 24 different referees, who are trusted with a QF game.

Also, Meler and Sanchez might still be injured after the NL, right?
Could Marciniak replace the Spanish in London?

    1. In London the referee observer is Spanish Díaz Vega, so I dont think so

      Delete
    2. Sánchez Martínez has Valencia vs Sevilla tomorrow night in LaLiga, so he's apparently already recovered from the injury he had to be substituted for at HT in SRBAUT.

  8. Oliver's "usual" AR2 Dan Cook did his first premier league game on Sunday since September. Mainwaring still with Oliver on Thursday though

  9. Correct intervention for a red card for DOGSO in Glasgow

    ReplyDelete
  10. Kovacs first referee with an OFR in all Quartefinals first legs.
But I'm not convinced it was a clear and obvious mistake the SPA assessment...

    ReplyDelete

    1. Disagree, correct VAR intervention for my taste. No other Rangers defender had a realistic chance to challenge Williams.

      Delete
    2. When you pause at the moment of the foul he is 18 yards from goal with no-one in front of him. For me it's a definite DOGSO

      Delete
    3. Really? You were sure for a foul in the midfield, but you have doubts for a foul on the edge of the penalty area? Clear RC, correct OFR

      Delete
    4. I also don't see a reason to support SPA in this case, Williams is 1v1 against Butland without the foul, his touch is very good which means he would have clear control of the ball and only need a smooth turn to get into a scoring position. It's the definition of an OGSO imo.

      Delete
    5. It's about the "smooth turn", but just points of view. :)

  11. Missed YC for Lyon player right at the end of 1st half, before Manu goal.

Other than that, good night for Nyberg.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Not the best of Marciniak, foul detection is very inconsistent. Some clear fouls not whistled and at the same time some dives with no contact at all whistled as fouls.

    1. I wouldn’t be so harsh to be honest. I found it was an expected level performance, nothing more nothing less. The game was very easy and fair.

      Delete
    2. Not a good game from Marciniak, not his level, really poor foul detection, missed at least 2 clear YC. Made the players really frustrated and also 2 big mistakes from his AR who missed a clear CK at the end.

  13. Poor mistake by AR2 in Glasgow

    ReplyDelete
  14. Messy in Glasgow and the fans have no clue whats going on

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. For sure a complex situation. AR misses offside , but handball offence moments before. A UEFA decision. Supportable

      Delete
    2. So we had two Var-interventions in Glasgow?

      Delete
    3. One for DOGSO and one for handball

      Delete
  15. This is how you handle mass confrotation.

Calm everybody, show 2 YC's and move on.

Ramos and rest of CONCACAF, watch and learn.

  16. Another missed yellow for Nyberg

  17. OT: Selected referees from AFC and CAF for CWC 2025
I don't know if already published it or not on this blog.
From Issa Said (Oman Sports News)
    AFC
    Referee:
    Alireza Faghani, Schetinin, Becham (AUS)
    Ma Ning, Zhou, Zhang (CHN)
Salman Falahi, Al Naimi, Hedirs (QAT)
    Reserve:
    Khalid al-Turais (KSA)
    Yusuke Araki (JPN)
    VAR:
    Khamis Al Marri (QAT)
    Shaun Evans (AUS)
    CAF
    Referee:
    Issa Sy, Camara, Bangura (SEN)
Dahane Beida (MTN), dos Santos (ANG), Razzaq (LES)
    Mustapha Ghorbal, Makran, Abbas (ALG)
    Reserve:
    Ibrahim Mutaz (LIB)
    Jean Jacques Ndala Ngambo (COD)
    VAR:
    Mahmoud Ashour (EGY)
    Hamza Al Farq (MAR)

  18. OT: Selected referees for ACL Elite KO Stage (centralized stage in Jeddah starting from QF)
    Alireza Faghani (AUS)
    Al Kaf (OMA)
    Ma Ning (CHN)
    Al Naqbi (UAE)
    Salman Falahi (QAT)
    Ahmed Al Ali (KUW)
    Tantashev (UZB)
    Al Jassim (QAT)
    Kim Jong Hyeok (KOR)
    Nazmi Nasaruddin (MAS)
    Al Hoaish (KSA)
    Araki (JPN)
    Omar Al Ali (UAE)
    Makhadmeh (JOR)

15 referees for only 7 match, but if UEFA have 30 elite referees, I think AFC "finally" published all elite referees that they have (only 15!), what do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Here the missed offside and then penalty for handball in Kovacs second half:
    https://streambug.org/cv/b00868
Indeed a poor mistake by AR2, he couldn't follow action until the end and he didn't realize at all there was this offside situation to judge. Looking only at how much clear offside was, something that should never happen at this level, but the AR was focused on previous assessments and couldn't say anything on this one. Nevertheless, one should ask for more at this level.
Very good by Romanian VAR to invite to OFR, clear penalty due to arm position, but indeed not accepted in British culture...

  20. Some incidents from Nyberg game.

    45'+4
    https://streambug.org/cv/9cc4c4
Wasn't that a clear SPA (player would have reached ball without the foul)? Also, not a genuine foul, evident holding. In my opinion mandatory booking.

    Management of a mass confrontation.

    90'+3

Possible YC for reckless, to be given as well in my opinion.

    1. I'm sure for remainder of his career that he will improve and be candidate for big matches.

But these examples are some of the things that right now sets him from taking that major step in becoming one of the better refs.

You can't making a foul decision in 45+4 and not issue YC.
That's just either big miss or total ignorance.

The way he handled confrontation was good he has authority and as I said,Ramos and CONCACAF crew should learn from UEFA refs.

Also,in 90+ it's more YC than not and that is also something that he was punishing, especially at Euro so why change criterium? If he did not see it fairplay then.

But these basic decisions are some of the things he has to improve and I'm sure he will in the future.

    1. The French appointments will be interesting to see. Assuming PSG go through as is it common for referees to do a QF 2nd leg and Semi Final 1st for the same team?

I think we may see someone else in Dortmund and Turpin on a Barcelona vs Inter/Bayern semi final 1st leg

      Delete
    2. Yes, good point. Turpin in Milan and Letexier directly in the SF would be the other solution for that.

On the other hand, with Kovacs, Marciniak, Oliver, Vincic and Zwayer, it would seem possible to appoint the SFs without French referees.

      Delete
    3. Oliver only possible on 1st leg of a SF most likely too. Zwayer possibly as well. Marciniak/Vincic lock on 2nd legs

      Kovacs- Final?

  22. Makkelie and his team have been appointed for the Cup Final between AZ and Go Ahead Eagles. It will be Makkelie’s third Cup Final, making him the referee with the most Cup Final appointments.

    2. Good job by Makkelie in this game, I liked his performance. In the 57th minute he issued a SYC to a player from Pyramids-FC, which was a supportable decision.

    3. To me it’s obvious why were are appointed in Egypt. That’s no coincidence, Makkelie and his team are not appointed in the QF. Anyway, I’m glad they’ve recovered quickly after the match in Romania.
