    1. Yes indeed I was about to underline this appointment, the first time after the notorious facts that Belarusan referees will officiate again teams from top European leagues , but still we are talking about Youth League.
It will remain on the background, but if I had to predict this one, I would have thought UEFA would have avoided this choice... now let's see about Kulbakov, possible Conference League for him, so far only two appearances as fourth official.

  2. Any information about referee observers?

  3. Surely not Leslie Irvine as 4-th official for Galatasaray - FC København. This match is played on Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadyumu. To give the name of stadium by living person - I am speechless.
Nothing against S. van der Eijk but on the pic we can see a textbook example how not to give cards. Smiling and to the side...

    KMIs

19' Penalty awarded for kicking an opponent; difficult to judge with those replays but surely a soft one
    https://streamable.com/52t78o

32' Defensive FK for holding by the attacking player; of course, not a mistake but we can see it's rather mutual and maybe the holding by the defending player is more significant?
    https://streamable.com/rfr97x

61' Defensive FK after goalkeeper vs attacker duel; hawk-eye by the referee(s) :)
    https://streamable.com/mkaf39

68' Significant holding but before the corner kick execution, the referee could have done nothing there
    https://streamable.com/4iqx7u

73' Penalty awarded for blatant pushing offence; no choice but to give a penalty, rather difficult to anticipate there could have been another chance for Milan to score afterwards - no blame
    https://streamable.com/x63ary

90' Most likely simulation in the penalty area but without replays we should give benefit of the doubt to the referee

    Other incidents

48', 51', 55' YC Huntley NEW for persistent infringement; a player cautioned for basic careless foul and surely the previous offences were more blatant but I really liked the referee's alertness here!
    https://streamable.com/mdm113

53' First YC for delaying the restart in new era of UEFA refereeing in club competitions (we could see this trend already in EURO qualifiers), very good!
    https://streamable.com/yagfq3

90+2' YC McArthur NEW for reckless challenge; really late and reckless, dark YC but rather nothing more nowadays?

    1. Thank you! I was just watching some highlights about this game, a challenging one for referee. I think he wasn't accurate in crucial incidents, first situation can be even simulation, we don't see any contact, but yeah, without all the replays we have for all games, it's impossible to say. I think it stays as soft, at maximum, as you described. 32' seems rather penalty than the opposite call. 73' is an OK decision, while 90' looks simulation. Player should have been booked.

    KMIs

36' PAI - fair intervention by goalkeeper

56' Possible 2YC Nhaga PSG; one can argue it was an SPA offence but I think not enough to issue a second YC for that

69' PAI challenge; without replays I can't see anything illegal there

86' UB/VC illegal use of arm by Diaby PSG; the referee missed the incident - the PSG player's action was deliberate, targeted at the opponent but rather only YC nowadays (although it came during the minutes of big frustration of PSG players)

90+3' 2YC Nhaga PSG for reckless tackle; no choice here, mandatory (2)YC rightly issued

    Other incidents

06' YC 6DOR for reckless tackle; mandatory

16' Possible YC 8DOR for SPA holding; I would prefer a YC for such type of offence

24' Missed YC 8DOR for SPA/reckless challenge; after forgiving him the first offence, you have to caution the player here

26', 35', 37' Not enough reaction against delaying the restart; while first two cases are manageable, the blatant DtR by 9DOR should've resulted in a caution

27' YC 10PSG for SPA; mandatory

34' YC 48DOR for SPA; mandatory

40' YC 3PSG for demanding a YC for an opponent

45' Wild tackle by 2DOR ignored by the referee; I would strongly opt for a YC

61' YC 2DOR for reckless SPA tackle; mandatory, dark YC

68' Possible YC 2PSG for SPA impeding

70' YC 4PSG for SPA holding; mandatory

73' Missed YC to 11PSG for cynical late charging from behind

77' YC 23PSG for cynical/frustration pushing an opponent; mandatory

86' Missed reckless use of arm by 12PSG at corner kick

90+1' YC 5DOR for SPA holding; correct but quite soft comparing to some incidents where a YC didn't follow

Sander van der Eijk was not able to reach/manage the players in this game. He was an isolated figure on the pitch, allowed Dortmund players too much (missed yellow cards in 16', 24', 37' (ignoring DtR with the new instructions...), 45') what led to frustration of PSG players that also was not prevented, especially in 73'(!) and 86'. Not the best impression, to be honest.

    1. About the crucial incidents, good decision in 36', I agree that 56' is a YC you can give but rather no crucial mistake if not given. One can read a SPA, but not a mandatory one. In 69', without replay, one must trust referee, looks like correct decision. The situation in 86' is interesting, clearly deliberate action by arm, if you go with RC it is a very good decision, but indeed as you said, nowadays can be assessed as severe reckless challenge... wouldn't still be a 100% crucial mistake.
      90'+3 absolutely correct second booking.

About disciplinary management, 16' should have been YC also for LoR, to follow in 23' a very reckless challenge, what I can point out in these incidents is the very short whistle of referee, very often this is a signal that a referee doesn't want to go deep in a situation and prefers to stay in the background, maybe in this case it wasn't enough, given how the game continued after that... in 73' I think that player should have been booked because very evident that it was a totally deliberate action against opponent, he could have stopped himself. If you add the leniency for time wasting in more than a case, you don't have a good performance under your eyes...

    2. About the new guidelines, let's remember that indeed him as Cat. 2 didn't attend the course, so the new officiating must be expected only from Elite and Category 1 I would say...

    3. However, Ebner yesterday was able to react against DtR as he have got the instructions, so... :)
