  1. Following what Matei wrote in a previous post, despite his great performance in Bucarest's derby, Hategan is not appointed neither in UECL. I hope he will be selected as VAR for Euro 2024

  2. Peljto in Conference League after the controversial goal in Leipzig - Real Madrid. I think we could have expected him in Europa League for the next step after that game, in case of very good performance, but he can still recover in this game.
The best game, open after first leg score, to Grinfeld.
Again, Croatian referees appointed only as AVAR and not main VAR.
Interesting to see Dabanović with Del Cerro Grande.
Mariani with a rather unimportant game, but before knowing first leg score, this one as surely potentially challenging on paper, with the Greek team.

  3. @f As I said, it was rather unlikely, so I am not surprised at all. Slim chances to be selected for Euro as well, Popa is ahead of him and is trusted as VAR only in UEL/UECL, with Fritz having this role usually in UCL - which is perfectly understandable. So I doubt also about Popa's selection.

Indeed interesting game choice for Carlos del Cerro Grande as VAR. One must say that he is doing a very good job as VAR, he quickly became very trusted. Do you remember any controversies, because I do not. Frankly I expect him at the Euro, there will be 2-3 Spanish VMO and he has very good chances to be there.

    1. To add, I didn't watch any of the games Hațegan had in UECL in autumn, but the performances must have not been good enough to justify a KO stage appointment. It could be absolutely possible after such a long break. Performance should be the main criterium. Wondering if he will try again next season.

  4. Bebek as AVAR should suggest that maybe there is some "punishment " for him and Jovanovic for that penalty call in PSV vs Dortmund.

    1. But he had been appointed only as AVAR also for that game as well, more generally I think this strange management can be due to Croatian domestic refereeing's situation (no major assignments for them) but I can be wrong!

    2. Let me inform you that Jovanovic' s PK was evaluated as correct decision

    3. Exactly otherwise Vincic would have had a different VAR. It may be assessed as wrong but not wrong enough for an intervention.

  5. Surprised by no VAR check/intervention for the tackle from Watkins @ Aston Villa - Ajax

    1. In the Premier League, a red card here would be outright wrong, but that's maybe not the best league to compare with :p. I think because he drags his leg back, it isn't streched at the moment of contact and that the contact point was so low, no intervention from VAR should be considered correct.

    2. I think in the Eredivisie always at least a check.

Rogers can also be happy with no 2yc

    3. Overall a very, very strong performance from Grinfeld, all those early YCs were correct and set the tone for the game. After the the correct 2YC for Ajax in the second half the game was decided and not that much to do.
No additional time was a bit odd as usually at least 1-2mins are given even in a decided game (especially that there was injury as well), but I guess noone cares.

    4. I cannot agree to be honest. Where one can maybe still accept the Watkins lunge being sanctioned with only a yellow, Grinfeld missed a clear second yellow card to Rogers (29.) for a late stamp.

  6. Streamable doesnt work here so i hope you can watch this link

Missed RC? at 01:09 until 01:38
Missed 2cy for ROgers not in this clip
Missed foul on the defender before a very big chance at 04:12 until 04:30

    1. Video doesn't work outside NED.
I downloaded it and I made the clips.

      15' Possible RC:
      https://streambug.org/cv/a2b26d

56' Possible foul before chance to score: https://streambug.org/cv/98aa62

15' is a very dark YC, we must add that it was a situation in which referee didn't have any control due to positioning, just waiting for the kick of the keeper, so one could talk about a rather totally missed incident, not easy for the AR as well, at the end it seems YC was issued afterwards, strictly according to protocol I think that supporting this decision is OK, but better decision would have been to issue RC directly by referee (even though almost impossible, as said...). My explanation is that the point of contact is quite dangerous but we are not talking about a very high one. Still, the player was very lucky to escape from a RC.

56' is a clear foul, player grabbed on the neck, definitely enough to call an OFR in case of goal scored, the effects of this action were more than evident. He was totally impeded in his attempt to challenge for the ball. AR to be blamed, he had to detect this one and inform referee, his area of responsibility, perfect view.

    2. And the situation in 30', possible second YC for step on foot:
      https://streambug.org/cv/db91b6
Only one replay, not 100% clear how much full was this step on foot, a card would have been accepted I think, but you don't have the 100% evidence this was a very mandatory booking if compared to other situations. It looks that the foot touches also the ground.

    3. Sorry, the situation I mentioned before was not this one, but near the touchline in 27. minute (instead of 29. which I mentioned accidentally).

    4. Thank you for the clips @Chefren!

    5. 15´ only YC (was given) after delay (treatment). Question is if VAR was involved because possible RC was checked. At least AR should see this offence live, so bad procedure by referee's team.

56´ clear offence (holding) by attacker seen by referee (and AR probably) but according to VAR protocol he had to delay his whistle. From clip is clear that DFK was awarded. Please more understandig for applying LotG in matches with VAR.

    6. I'm sorry but your statement about minute 56 is simply incorrect. There was no delay, but the violation was simply not seen

    7. Then why in your opinion Hans did the referee whistle and pointed direction after the shot on goal? That definitely seems to indicate a free kick having been awarded.
