In the second situation one can wonder, whether it would have become a topic, if Dankert just gave the free kick. But penalty obviously is technically correct there.

    2. I think you have problem with Kovacs. you don't like him. and I told you i was right when i sad that Kovacs will be in NL. and also will be in this round of CL. and you put Petrescu in a low game after his Aston Villa - Bayern Munchen and it would be his second game for him. I expect Kovacs at Real, Juventus, Atletico or Leipizg.

  6. Chefren, the referee observers for the 3rd week of the Europa League were announced today. Can we say that the announcement of the observers also meant that the referees were appointed to the matches? Also, the Bulgarian referee observers Itchko Lozev was appointted to the Galatasaray-Elfsborg match. What do you think opionions about the referee observer?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes this means that the referees have been appointed.
The Bulgarian observer was seen very often with regular Elite referee, but it's possible we will see a very experienced Category 1 in Istanbul as well. This one should be absolutely an expected win by Turkish side in my opinion... and by far easier, at least on paper, for a referee, than tghe previous ones.

Intense and important match, full stands.
5:58 PAI, it could be a tripping foul, but outside the box imo.
10:35 It's for sure an offence in the app, easy foul should be given to the defender in the very last minute. Crucial unfair goal.

  10. Highlights of Marc Nagtegaal's performance in the crucial ROUSUI game:

    https://files.fm/u/xr67yua3qz

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Marc Nagtegaal is a very promising referee. At just 31 years old, his posture, maturity, body language, communication and calmness are already of a Cat.1 level. He gave a few excellent advantages in this game and the AR’s did very well. Nagtegaal prefers a lenient style in terms of physicality and body contacts, to create an open and attractive game. However, sometimes he takes too much risks, which arguably (indirectly) caused the RC in ROUSWI. The most interesting moment was probably in '21. I think there will be pros and cons regarding the play-on call. For me a 50/50 situation. On one hand, from a football understanding perspective, ‘play on’ is a brave call as the goalie played the ball first (and then made a contact with SWI player). But strictly according to the book, a PK would be supported as well. Later on, the RC for the ‘high kick’ (SWI) was a supportable decision, however -- looking at “The big picture”, the Swiss team was unfortunate and have reasons to complain, I’d say. Although, in the end it was a deserved win by the Romanian team.

Something I don't understand is why UEFA chose a relatively inexperienced ref in a decisive match. If I counted correctly, Nagtegaal has refereed only a handful of international matches. In the Netherlands, he is not a regular choice in derbies or top matches. I criticized UEFA last season when they pushed an inexperienced Joey Kooij in a crucial match in Florence (Conference League). Kooij and Nagtegaal have in common that they both look very mature at a relatively young age, but there seems no development plan at all, compared to referees from other countries. For example Delajod, Sylwestrzak, Italian referees, and more. What is Björn Kuipers’ role here? Isn’t he responsible for appointments in youth tournaments?

To conclude: Nagtegaal has tons of potential IMO. But… To fulfill his potential, make sure he has a good coach and there is a development plan prepared. Experience has to be gained, but step by step. Ultimately I expect him (Nagtegaal) to be the next Dutch Elite referee.

      Delete
    2. I'm his fan since I saw him for the first time. Cool head, athletic posture, good positioning, calm and professional, able to communicate with players in a friendly but also serious way, allowing much physical play and playing many advantages -> taking the risk but also contributing to the game flow! All these characteristics are of an elite referee (indeed, he's some kind of a copy of Kuipers and Makkelie -> I don't know if it's a deliberate choice or it's simply the style Dutch referees have in common). I expect a quick promotion to the first group and then only a catastrophe could prevent him reaching the top.

Rosetti (or whoever makes those appointments) is smart. He knows well that Nagtegaal is capable of managing difficult games but also wanted him to mature early in UEFA competition. I think the Dutch passed the test although one can say he missed two-three cards more. The SUI's PAI mentioned by you: When UEFA are going to make a statement about follow-through challenges (YC is usually demanded in RAPs -> before EURO Rosetti openly demands YCs for such incidents -> referees ignore his clear instruction and let it go at EURO -> Livaković red-carded by Hernández Hernández and in this game no foul whistled. Consistency is needed!!!

      Delete
    3. If that is the logic behind it ("mature early in UEFA competition"), then that could be quite smart indeed. But at the same time, the appointment in a decisive ROUSWI surprised me based on Nagtegaal's domestic experience — KNVB are still very cautious with him imo. He’s slowly gaining more experience.

As for promotions, it will be interesting. I think the Dutch category 2 referees can be divided into roughly three different categories:
      - Joey Kooij => relies on his appearance. I saw some bits of GRE-IRE and see him as a potential “Nyberg-type”. Looks mature with bigger teams already. He tries to manage matches with appearance and personality, uses very few cards. But he is not a pure decision maker. I think rougher games won’t be his cup of tea.
      - Sander van der Eijk => rather the opposite of Kooij. Relies a lot on his cards. I see him a (too) passive and reactive referee. A bit more cold and distanced. He loves to make decisions. The Dutch Delajod… I think he needs to mature and build his personality to promote to Cat.1. Based on appointments, it seems that Rosetti already identified him as a go-to referee in uglier games though :)
-Marc Nagtegaal => complete package. Big bonus: in his daily life he’s a police officer and therefore capable to stay cool in hot atmospheres. Indeed it seems that UEFA already identified that; his next appointment is in the Youth League in Greece.
Fun fact, he trains regularly with Makkelie, they worked together at the police and Makkelie has been his referee coach for long time.
Stylistically I would describe Nagtegaal as a brave Makkelie (elegant, calm and cool), but more expressive than his coach, hence a mix of Kuipers/Makkelie seems appropriate.
I’m curious who will take Makkelie’s Elite spot when he retires.
