  1. Good match for Beaton with an important observer; I guess that it is deserved after many years under the dark shadow

  2. One can describe as regular the assignments of Krogh, Lindhout, Treimanis (still giving him something as trusted Category 1 with experience), Jug (always appointed, as said), Petrescu and Gishamer (nice to see him with Cakir as observer, and the Austrian is following a path).

While I have something to say about the other two.

The case of Beaton is very strange to me, years and years without any interest by committee, and then now something like an "explosion" when he is 43 years old and rather in a final moment of his careee for some aspects. So why not before? First answer I gave is that Collum had all the focus as only Scottish Elite referees for years in recent times, and so, going even behind that, finding other names, was not immediate. Nevertheless, if they wanted to create something good with Scottish refereeing, they could have surely made it. Now it seems as Walsh needs time (CL debut, but then nothing followed, must wait EURO Under 21 and next season). A pity because Beaton could have got more. De Bleeckere is a particular observer, he is very often with young and promising referees, well, that's not the case of the Scottish, but you can read the ide betwen the lines...

Second point for discussion: Gozubuyuk. Trying to read his reputation by committee seems hard. He has alternated very good moments with also remarkable games even in CL KO stage, and this looked to be the start of a process, then other periods in which he looked to be even disappeared, but then back with low games and competitions like Europa and Conference League. As for today, it seems as the final assessment for him is that it will be hard to create something more, but I think he can be more than satisfied for what he achieved because if we go back at the times when he was Category 1... well, the challenge of becoming Elite was one of the most difficult ones of his life.. so in the end, maybe he is just getting what he deserved. But very hard as said, if not impossible, to find a line by analyzing over the years his journey in UEFA.

    1. To add something here as a Dutchman. I don't think Gozubuyuk has been better than he is at the moment. His last matches were very good. Hopefully he continues that trend in Europe

  3. DJUPAF 06'

    1. Well, sorry but it's not possible that both referee and AR1 missed this one...

    2. IMO the AR1 has to see it, and the referee should see it. Both missing it at this level shouldn’t happen, especially since it shouldn’t be that hard to spot.

  4. Late penalty with a red card for SFP in added time of Treimanis's match for the equalizing goal.

  5. 90' + 3' Treimanis giving a penalty with a direct red card after OFR. I didn't watch the incident though.

Penalty and CSFP, rare scenario, good by VAR, but big miss live.
      Very heated game after that.

    2. It seems streambug has some issues, or maybe it's about this specific file, for being sure here a mirror, but maybe the previous link will work later.

    3. This is never an OFR, the defender is playing the ball, the contact is accidentaly.

  6. Big penalty to Panathinaikos. Very Quick whistle by the Scottish

  7. And very clear penalty as well

  8. Second yellow instead of straight red to Molde #20 is certainly a choice.

  9. Early QF predictions:
Betis - Bialystok: Mariani / Meler
Celje - Fiorentina: Grinfeeld / Bastien
Chelsea - Legia: Sidiropoulos / Hernandez
Djurgarden - Rapid: Gözübüyük / Pinheiro

  10. Good input from AR1 for the 2ndyc in Florence

  11. Beaton.

    80' Penalty to Panathinaikos

Very good positioning and correct call.

    90'+2 Second YC for SPA
    https://streambug.org/cv/874893
In the end correct decision, but Beaton looked lost. He didn't whistle foul but he waited, I think there was an input by AR1 about everything to make, as Ecosse reported above, but on that side of the attacking half, one should have expected the refeere taking directly decision.
Mandatory YC even if after that the player failed in his action to stop the attack, because very clear LoR.
Also, point for improvement for the Scottish: always not a good thing to go make a backwad movement when you are surrounded by players while taking a decision, should have shown a more strict body language.
Last but not least, Fiorentina player taking the role of referee and indicating to opponent to leave the field with that arm, and for a long time, could have meant even YC for him. But at least, a warning by referee about such behavior.

  12. Another incident from Gishamer game, to add to the previous clip already posted by Euro Soccer Referee yesterday.
This one by far more controversial, and one should discuss whether clear and obvious mistake.
In the end VAR says: "No goal, offside", but it should be a mistake in showing it, goal was dsallowed following that foul shown to Gishamer at OFR. The Austrian referee not fully convinced about the call...

    1. The best thing is that, in case of goal, nobody would even notice that incident and indeed nobody protested but when seeing the footage, it's a clear foul. So, the committee has to decide whether to blame VAR for unnecessary intervention or praise him for great spot.

  13. Did anyone watch Rapid Wien - Borac? It seems Lindhout had a tight game, decided in additional time.

  14. Highlights of Morten Krogh Hansen's performance in Cercle Brugge KSV - Jagiellonia Białystok

    https://files.fm/u/5463be82f8

Two rightly rejected penalty appeals (4', 52'). The atmosphere was quite hot because the home team managed to come back to the game after the first leg's 0-3 defeat. Too lenient and laidback-style performance for my taste but the biggest point for discussion was inconsistent foul detection (several blatant pushes in the back allowed vs some soft free kicks awarded) and allowing the Cercle Brugge's captain to constantly mob the referee through the whole game and even strongly protest at AR2 (66'). Jagiellonia players noticed that such behaviour is allowed and... they got three yellow cards for dissent at the end (81', 88', 89'). I would say that something was missing in order to reach the 'good, expected performance' level.

    1. That something is punishing also player's fouls, not just their protests.

But again, modern refereeing requires from you to be lenient which is a shame.
