  1. I have got info that on Tuesday, only Taylor is observed by committee member. As soon as I get names of observers and delegates I will publish them.

    1. Indeed, Vladimir Šajn will observe Taylor.

  2. You may find observers in the comment section under the previous post (delete that comment when ready) :)

    1. Oh I did not see your comment. Yes, the same names I got hehe :)))).

On appointments: I expected cat1 referee in Manchester, but I expected Vinčić, but Mazeika seems like a good choice too. Mažić got his third match, this probably means that he replaced someone on MD3 or now on MD4. I expected Borbalan in EL after no appointment in MD1 and MD2. Again great appointment for English referees, I think it is sure that Taylor and Oliver will both be promoted to elite this winter. U17 tournament, then play-off match, now this very good match, Turpin is doing well obviously :)

      Delete
    2. It seems that Mažić is a replacement this matchday because he had a game in Qatar on Friday.

      Delete
  3. Mažic already with his 3rd CL assignment this season and we're only on MD4, quite unusual. And again quite an important tie.
For the first time in a long time, Eriksson will handle a real top-clash again in CL. He seems to be more trusted again by committee.
Taylor with Sajn is a clear signal for promotion to Elite. He is ready alongside with Oliver.

I wonder if it is wise (in terms of protection) to assign Aytekin to Atlético after Barcelona-PSG, I can only imagine some media trying to put pressure on him...

  4. It is worth noting that there has been a change in Turpin team. Nicolas Danos is replaced by Guillaume Débart, the regular assistant of Ruddy Buquet. Anyone knows the reason?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Anyone knows what happened with Martin Strömbergsson? He has had no game in 2017. Injury?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. He probably is injured because he only have been in charge of one game in the swedish top league game this year and that was in may. Before that he refereed a couple of games in the lower district level. The swedish football Association has been quite about it.
By the way, it was pretty obvious that Eriksson had a cl game this Tuesday, he had a normal game yesterday and Ekberg had the to teams in the bottom yesterday and Johannesson didn’t had a game at al this md

      Delete
  6. Yes, Mažić appointment is clearly a replacement, because it is his third game and we are still on MD4. In case he will get another game on MD5 or MD6, he will get overall 4 games in group stage.
That's a good signal for the Serbian, of course. The crucial mistake in Rome (handball) and then the offside mistakes in Monaco were considered as not serious ones. One can agree, the Serbian has a more than high reputation for his big experience.

  7. Taylor always on focus, another committee member for him. Oliver got some important observers as well. It seems as committee needs many and many games before promoting one of them (or even both...).
What do you think? It has also been a long time since the two Englishmen are contending an Elite spot.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Maybe FC Basel - CSKA Moskva was the game for Hategan, but given the semifinal appointment at U17 he couldn't get it.
For tomorrow, among others, I expect Brych in Napoli - Manchester City.

Particular to hear "Marciniak" while calling a player :)

    2. The first penalty incident would have been a penalty before VAR introduction. However, I can agree with arguments for 'grey area' in both cases. Thanks :)

  12. From national federations' sites:
    Shakhtar - Feyenoord: Sidirópoulos
    Beşiktaş - Monaco: Tagliavento
    Porto - Leipzig: Hațegan

Rosenborg BK - FC Zenit (EL): Gözübüyük

    2. Good season obviously for Tagliavento. He was usually appointed two matches in CL and one in EL in previous seasons group stages. Now three matches after four matchdays, I am happy for him :))

      Delete
    3. Some rumors in Italy report that Tagliavento could leave the FIFA list at the end of this year, replaced by Daniele Doveri (40 y. o.). Indeed, he is already 45 (the Italian age limit). In case of confirmation on the list, he should get a derogation for serie A on next season. Otherwise, he is planned to retire on June 2018.
In addition, the other spot on FIFA list, left by Rizzoli should be taken by Di Bello (36), this should be quite sure.

      Delete
    4. Aren't Luca Pairetto, Fabio Maresca, Claudio Gavillucci, Rosario Abisso or Gianluca Manganiello a better solution taking into account they are younger than Doveri?

      Delete
    5. All the names you mentioned need more experience, especially referees like Manganiello and Abisso, who joined serie A panel only a few months ago.
One answer to your question is also that on next years we will have many referees to be retired from FIFA list: Rocchi (1973), Banti (1974), Mazzoleni (1974) and then Orsato (1975), so there will be the right time for further choices.

      Delete
    6. Big changes in Italian international roster then! I hope the next generation is ready for the big step under Rizzoli's eye!

    1. Interesting to notice that Martin Balko, who was AR at Lubos Michel's side, will be still there :)
I think Slyško would have liked to join this team as well, but now he is matched with Královec.

      Delete
    2. Maybe that could be changed, since Kralovec is clearly out of focus?

With Balko and Slysko, Kruzliak would have some very good (and maybe needed) experience on his side.

  14. Fine performance by Turpin so far, not a hard first half.

  15. Roma - Chelsea
01' - correct play-on decision, no assist by hand as suggested by Chelsea defender
05' - correct no-penalty decision, no foul in front of AAR2
29' - missed stamp of #24 Roma on #10 Chelsea just outside the Roma's penalty area, YC possible but not obligatory

  17. Correct red card for Deniz Aytekin at ATM-QAR game for QAR #10 Pedro Henrique.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Around 68': Attacker of CSKA blocked a shot from the keeper, but stood a certain distance away. I think he didn't intervene the keeper from shooting and rather blocked the ball.

Mazic gave IFK without YC, tactical the best decision IMO. But for sure the YC was mandatory in case of whistle.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Don't know about UEFA but in Poland we are instructed to issue a yellow card only in case of clearly tactical character of interfering with a GK.

      Delete
    2. 84': Missed RC for SFP IMO
Ball gone, stretched leg, high force...

      Delete
    3. @RayHD: Could be possible, I don't know the UEFA guidelines. I thought the YC is mandatory in such situations.

      Delete
    4. Thanks for highlighting those incidents. I will try to make clips of them. Any other key match or interesting incidents in that game?

      Delete
    5. Thank you in advance :)

The YC in 60' for time wasting and the first YC (don't know the minute, players were protesting that there wasn't a foul) come to my mind. And in 80' I think Mazic decided not to whistle a PK in favour of the home team (holding). I think correct decision, wasn't enough for PK IMO.

Shortly after the YC for Balanta there was an off the ball incident by Dzagoev, I think he also deserved YC. Sorry, don't know the minute.

I think that are the most interesting incidents, quite fair match in first half and an intense second.

  19. Strong performance by Turpin, strict line in cards as part of a balanced tactical approach, always in control, more relaxed than I previously remember him but still with that distance and authority. A particular situation at 6', Sporting player placed the ball outside the corner markings, and Turpin responded angrily, I can imagine words to the effect of "Do you think I'm that stupid?", nice response that embodied his match.
Even in case of a New Zealand win in the first leg, the French IS ready for Lima imo, matches like FEY-ROM, GLA-MNC are long away now for this strong and determined talent.

    1. ROM - CHE: in my opinion penalty, Eriksson and AAR2 should have monitored more carefully the penalty area.

MNU - BEN: about the penalty appeal, given that the player was able to reach the ball by his movement, I would say at least supportable decision by referee to play on, at least it wasn't a direct challenge on the opponent. However, whistling a penalty wouldn't have been a mistake.
About the penalty whistled, I have doubts, one must read the intention of the player, once he falls down. Deliberate action? I don't know. Referee maybe will be backed.
Second penalty is clear: the defender makes his action against the opponent and then he tries to hide his behavior.

      Delete
    2. Rom - Chelsea
I would go for no PK, holding in the process of struggling for position but without enough intensity as it seems the attacker fell down on his own. One could also argue that the other Roma attacker, no. 20+something, committed an offense by pulling opponent's arm. However that one was also without enough intensity.
      MNU- BEN
Penalty appeal - Isolated, this tackle was not a PK, but it surely depends on the criteria applied throughout whole match
PK- it feels like the PK, surely the referee could be backed up

    1. 67': impeding the keeper from releasing the ball by itself is not a mandatory YC, it must be a promising attack (attempt of a quick counterattack) stopped, in this case it is true that keeper tries immedialy to play the ball, but I haven't the perception of a promising attack. All players are running towards midfield. I try to make an example of a mandatory YC for such infringments: all players from attacking team are in penalty area or close to it, keeper tries to release immediately the ball by hands directly to a teammate, who can run alone. In this case, would be a more than clear YC. In all the other situations, one must consider the action.

81': not enough for a penalty, in my opinion correct decision by AAR1 - Mazic.

84': RC for SFP, tackle with both legs and the ball already away, only the very low hitting point could "save" the player from RC, but nevertheless I think all criteria for issuing it were fulfilled. Really dangerous and rough action. Excessive force.

      Delete
    2. 84'
Remember what have we saw on Referee Assistance Programme, YC was issued because of the 'hitting point', as you said. It's foot, not ankle.
I'm sure it was the reason why referee choose YC instead of the RC.

      Delete
    3. All elements for RC were fulfilled but 'the result is missing' (luckily).

      Delete
    3. But I don't think a 1st category referee would've been appointed for a crucial match like Basel v CSKA Moscow which is evident by the fact that Kuipers handled leg 1... But Vincic is not impossible if they are looking at him for a promotion... Would have been a good test like Michael Oliver in Juventus v Sporting or Anthony Taylor in Olympiacos v Barcelona!!

One question for those who know: up to which age does a referee stand chances of becoming FIFA?

    2. Its not 37, our referee Aleksandar Vasic became a FIFA ref with 41/42y..

    3. Then was it earlier so?? I thought I did read something like that... I maybe confusing it with something else then 😓

    4. Maybe it is, i dont know, hope that Danilo Grujic get his FIFA back since he deserve it..

    5. Age limits have been totally abolished, a referee can join the FIFA list at any age, there is only a request that he / she shouldn't be younger than 24.
This is the circular sent by FIFA to all domestic associations for 2018 proposals:
      https://resources.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/administration/02/90/46/55/circularno.1594-2018fifarefereeinginternationallists_neutral.pdf
      Deadline was on 1 October.
Then, once confirmed, a referee can stay on the list without age limits, as said, but starting from 45 years old he should be carefully checked with physical and medical tests and so on.

      AS SAINT-ETIENNE - OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS
      Referee: Clément Turpin (FIFA, Elite)
Assistant Referees: Cyril Gringore, Nicolas Danos
Fourth Official: Hakim Ben El Hadj

Turpin appointed for one of the hottest derbies in France between Saint-Etienne and Lyon, these matches are always very tough to referee, there are generally a lot of cards: Tony Chapron for example sent off two players within a couple of minutes in February IIRC.

  28. Watched Celtic v Bayern, fairly easy game but good performance by Makkelie with no cards and only one real incident - claims for handball at the first goal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3K4d7DwacxE

    1. Difficult to say whether there was a touch by arm or not.
In case of touch, I think referee could have whistled, because thank to the arm in that position, player controlled the ball, then scoring.

  29. Good performance by Aytekin in a harder match than would be expected, but still basically normal. Solid, calm and strong style, and two correct RCs. Interesting gestures with the RC to Savić, maybe not ideal. I doubt whether he will attend even CL KO again, but this should help him regain some credits in the committee.
