  1. It's Gery Vargas actually... Not Guery :)

    1. Some sources report him as "Guery Vargas". It would be nice to know more about that. Maybe our readers from South America can answer...

  2. Turpin brokes confederation neutrality. I fully agree. That's good. Now i expect shukrallah in final

    1. But, strictly speaking, there was no need for breaking the confederation neutrality rule at this stage of the tournament and Marrufo's appointment for Germany - Brazil (the winner of this match will face the winner of USA - England in the semi-final) also does not seem to be the last conclusion of wisdom.

I would have preferred the following line-ups:

      MALI - GHANA: TURPIN (FRA)
      USA - ENGLAND: VARGAS (BOL)
      SPAIN - IRAN: MARRUFO (USA)
      GERMANY - BRAZIL: CHAREF (ALG)

  3. I will predict Ryuji Sato (Japan) and Ovidiu Hategan (Romania) for the Semi-finals... Anastasios Sidiropolous (Greece) for the 3rd place match and Enrique Caceres (Paraguay) for the Final...

  4. Some situations from the "African derby" Mali - Ghana:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqHHjcI7iSc
00:12 looks like offside in the building up of Mali 1-0 (no replay)
00:30 disallowed goal scored by Ghana, very soft call in my opinion, nobody wanted a whistle there, in my opinion crucial mistake
01:20 clear penalty to Ghana, correct decision by referee, some moments of tension between attacker and keeper once the goal was scored.

  5. USA - England
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfzsG5j_QOU
01:22 interesting situation for assistant referee, the second-last defender is the player lying down, since game was not stopped, he of course must be considered like the other ones, you can indeed see Gringore focused exactly on his line
01:35 correct red card for DOGSO, assuming that the contact from behind existed, not a genuine attempt to play the ball, good decision by Turpin

  6. OT:
There was a big Croatian derby played between Hajduk and Dinamo,in charge was Tihomir Pejin.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRMblfIcmtM

I would like to hear your opinion on following situations:

    1)20:36-After only 5 seconds,possible booking not given...
    2)2:04:35-Possible offside when Dinamo scored?
3)2:09:08 -Penalty for Hajudk in 90+3.
4)2:10:41-Possible 2nd penalty for Hajduk not given in 90+5 min.
5)And right after that massive scuffle, maybe some red cards Pejin needed to show?

    1. 1) YC, in my opinion reckless.
      2) Offside, replay is clear.
      3) There is a contact from behind by defender, I think this is a 50-50 situation in which an attacker is always lucky if he gets penalty. However, referee can be backed.
      4) Penalty to be whistled, I think, attacker had no reason to fall down there.
The mass confrontation is always a poor scene to be watched, but surely the crucial decisions of last minutes contributed to make players even more nervous from both sides.

    2. 1) YC, reckless
      2) Clear offside, i dont know how AR didnt saw it..
      3) Some contact from defender but i think it was 50-50 like Chef said
      4) Crucial mistake, penalty should be whistled.
      5) I dont know how number 18 from Hajduk didnt get RC. Mistake from Pejin..

  7. Today in serie A Red card to Bonucci (Milan) for violent conduct (deliberate elbow) after VAR review.
    Very good decision:

  8. Very problematic performance by çakir in galatasaray-fenerbahçe. He was inconsistent and wasn't exactly good at spotting infractions.
One of his assistants got hit by numerous water bottles are they decided not to give a penalty in favor of the home team; çakir didn't look like her knew which decision to take as he was trying his best to see what his ar had signaled.

How do you read this incident from Marseille-PSG tonight? In my view, the 2nd YC for Neymar (he was booked a few minutes before that) is quite soft, looking at replays.

  11. Stupid of Neymar. He gave the referee the possibility to give him his 2nd YC.

  13. I watched Çakir in full, I didn't think he was too bad to be honest. Slightly not predictable foul detection, but full control of an Istanbul Derby, and two correct crucial decisions:
    1) NO Penalty for the handball, to my mind correct, UEFA always makes a big point of saying play on here- where is defender supposed to put his hand? AR2 Ongun's call, Çakir had no perception of it, which led to him being stuck by bottles
    2) Simulation leading to 2YC=RC, not too hard to detect, any contact with the goalkeeper was made by the attacker

So overall I thought Çakir was fine, IIRC he isn't always at the highest level in his league (like Webb et al), nice to see a decent performance. One must say this was far away from the quality and difficulty of Palabiyik's derby some weeks ago, however.

  14. Another particular situation in Marseille-Paris from yesterday: particular handball situation in the penalty area, missed by Ruddy Buquet, Kylian Mbappé is afterwards booked for dissent. Thoughts?

  15. I think someone asked for domestic appointments a few days ago. I'll post here (or in the appropriate blog entry) Spanish designations. Below are the ones for MD10. I have marked those matches I think are the most interesting for the referees involved or those referees that have the most chances to get a FIFA badge in the next few years mainly due to age.

Biggest match for Moss, he is very trusted at the moment, to be honest I really like his style, it isn’t so modern but he is a great manager on the pitch. Madley could face a tough match in South London- his decision taker, authoritarian style suits to these kinds of relegation matches, good choice imo. Friend in good form, besides SOT-NEW, quite big match for him.
      Otherwise I see regular designations.
