  1. Damir Skomina with another important appointment after Hoffenheim - Manchester City. Collina, I'm quite sure, wouldn't have made such choice, he would have replaced the Slovenian. Particular to notice that Obrenovič will meet again Italy this time as AAR2, after yesterday.
Raczkowski seems to be in a very good moment!

    ReplyDelete
  2. No chances for him... he is 41 years old. If I'm not wrong he already appeared as AAR in a game a few time ago (maybe EL).
I already wrote my analysis about Italy here:
    http://law5-theref.blogspot.com/2018/09/fifa-circular-for-2019-fifa-refereeing.html
With Fabbri, I think second name will be Mariani.

  3. I hope that Kassai will stay on the list :)

  4. The game will be played in my city.
Hope to see the Italian crew in live action...

  5. @Márk Szántó do you think that Hungary has better referees who deserve to replace Kassai on FIFA list?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Well, I can't make any statement, because I don't know a single thing about Hungarian refereeing. It is particular that Sándor Piller is not working for Hungarian referees, but this can happen. There were other cases of UEFA observers who were not working for their national associations.
Who is the head of referees for the major league?

  7. Interesting appointment for Blom too. UEFA still trusts him with important matches, which is good to see. Romania-Serbia are also two neighbours.
Interesting to note: no FIFA AAR. Both Lindhout and Mulder are not Fifa, though Lindhout appears to be a candidate.

    Kuipers with Ireland - Wales.

  8. On a paper weak game for Bebek.
Someone recently asked if we will see him in CL this season.
My answer to that is that I dont think so,and this appointment proves what is his reputation right now(no disrecpect to Azerbaijan or Malta).
As his country men,I hope that he proves me otherwise.

  9. Red Card for Romania by Kevin Blom

    ReplyDelete
  10. Red card was too harsh in my view, the foul (dangerous play) wasn't intentional

    1. That's not the most important element. Open your LotG

      It's Serious Foul Play...

    2. But the contact was minimal if there was any contact at all

      Delete
    3. I didn't watch the incident but it can't be dangerous play.
Dangerous play means NO CONTACT and INDIRECT FREE KICK.
With a straight RC, referee surely punished a contact.

Here the RC incident in Blom game.
If the contact existed, RC is fully justified.
Otherwise, this should be dangerous play.
I think that Blom saw the contact because he looked to be sure.
Video is not clear in that regard.

  12. Supportable penatly decision + RC for me. Otherwise a solid match by Blom, who handed out three YCs for dissent if I'm not mistaken (out of 5 YCs). Thought these were quite harsh.

  13. Crazy few weeks in the career of Fedayi San. A month ago, he was just a regular UEFA Third Category referee from Switzerland, without much scope for progressing further.

But since, he has refereed Olympiakós - PAOK in a good way, UEFA appointed him for Armenia - Gibraltar in NL.
What 'should' have been a pure unremarkable game, didn't prove to be...

Read about his performance below in my report

  14. shocking red card by Blom. Yes it is a penalty, but nothing more than a yellow card..Blom is not good enough to ref important European games. His positioning is not perfect and his decision making is usually poor.

    1. There was contact on the face. So how is that even shocking? Clearly endagered the safety and took the risk.

    1. Turkey, a friend of Germany? I think, the most influential ferderation is the italian and spanish. Beside maybe the german and others.

      Delete
    2. Turkey is the best allay of Germany in Europe. Turkish referees are treated well by the committee as well as Polish and Slovenians.

      Delete
    3. I disagree. Referee is like player. It doesn’t matter where they are from, it is more important of ref’s quality. Recently quality of ref’s improved in the countries you mentioned. I don’t believe this is done intentionally.

      Delete
    4. I have watched Vincic, Jug, Stefanski, Cakir, Gill very recently. None of them impressed me as much as Kassai, Kralovec, Bebec etc in the past. Slovenian and Polish leagues are equal to premier legue ref wise, according to the committee.

      Delete
    5. The quality of the Slovenian football first league is quite OK (last year NK Maribor played in CL group stage) , the problem is with the national team whose results have been deteriorating in the last few years. There are various reasons for this situation and I don't want to go in details. On the other hand the quality of the Slovenian referees, their education and training are on the international level, therefore they are appointed to CL and EL. Skomina this year is not on a quality level as he used to be. It has started with the semi final CL Roma-Liverpool, since then he has not so self-assured as he had used to be. I hope he will regain the self confidence which is needed for the international matches.

You are totally wrong in what you are stating, in my opinion.
You are making judgments on referees just based on their country, and this is not acceptable. UEFA is working with all referees from all countries. The skills of a referee are not exclusively related to his background, he can be a potential talent coming from every country. Then, you can maybe say, that some nations have more challenging leagues and matches to be officiated, and I can agree. But the aim of committee is to create solid and good referees from all over Europe.
Second thing to say, about your last sentence: "Germany the most influential country with "friend" countries", I dissociate myself, you take the responsibility of what you said, I obviously don't agree.

      Delete
    7. so, you are saying that nearly all Slovenian or Polish international referees are better than the best ref from Norway, Croatia, or Austria. I am saying that this is impossible. I cannot accept it as a fact in Europe. All federations deserve equal representation in european cups. I am not against Slovenia or Poland. I do believe that other countries deserve more chances. Not given. Bebec had a bad game 3 years ago and he is gone.

      Delete
    8. All over Europe. exactly. Not parts of Europe...Europe consists of nearly 40 countries. How many countries got appointments in the nations cup? very few..for me it is wrong.

      Delete
    9. There are 55 members in UEFA, according to wikipedia;)

      Delete
    10. @Ioan, I am not sure that we, as the readers of this blog, are able the solve the issue. I suggest that you send the complaint about the referee appointments to Mr. Rosetti at UEFA, who is the right man to decide on the issue 😉😃.

    11. if not Germany, what is the most influential and powerful country in Europe? Which was the first country in Europe that recognised Slovenia as independent country? In european union, who supported Donald Tousk as the leader of the European Council? It is nothing wrong to have best friends in Europe. I AM not against it...

      Delete
    12. I would love to see all 55 european countries represented in the nations cup? that is why it is called nations cup...

Your argument lacks a vital element.

Not all referees are at the same level.

    16. Where do you see such "domination" of Slovenian referees? Skomina, Jug and Vincic are at least good international referees, all of them had/have one assignment in NL. Obrenovic wasn't appointed at all. Ivan Bebek had at least two chances at the highest level, he blew them both. Austrian referees? Struggling for many many years now. I won't go on. TBH you are talking nonsense, with no serious arguments at all.

      Delete
    17. Vincic: at least inadequate in Athens, got one of the best champions league matches two weeks after..Jug: at least inadequate in Kiev last year, he got champions league qualifiers straight after..Skomina: two of the worst champions league performances, got one of the best matches of NC.Obrenovic: been international ref for 6 months and got one of the highest profile friendly matches..Bebec:one terrible match two years ago and now gets Malta..Kralovec: one terrible match two years ago and now struggles to come back..Moen: one terrible match and got disappeared, Kassai: one bad match and got disappeared nearly 6 months..That is evidence...

      Delete
    18. Obrenovic involved in two matches of the same national team- italy- within less than 72 hours..Does that make sense..? Unless it is a coincidence..

      Delete
    19. For God's sake, Obrenovic (who is a very tallented young referee!) got his first internationaly friendly and you are making a tragedy of it. You are claiming some kind of conspiracy taking place, at least, even conslusions of criminal intention could be drawn from your words. Not Rosetti as Andreja said, I suggest you inform police about your accusations and also take full (criminal) responsibility for your statements.

    20. @ioan dagok

I can talk about Greece since you mentioned that we don't exist on the appointments.

For several years when Kyros Vassaras was Head of referees and then in charge of the education part, Greece had many appointments mostly to EL (Kakos, Koukoulakis) and then CL with Sidiropoulos. Not to mention that Sidiropoulos was selected for 2016 Euro (even as reserve). Vassaras was working closely with FIFA refs and the results were evident.

Nowadays we have 3 foreign members on the ref committee and a Greek Head of education. Education here is virtually non existent. The reasons? Only ref committee can answer. Plus Greece is having many issues with referees and the whole situation is a total mess.

So, in my eyes, it's absolutely normal that UEFA simply shifts attention to countries that educate their referees properly.

    21. if not Germany, what is the most "influential and powerful country in Europe?"

      English FA, no doubt.

      Delete
    22. England got none appointments in the NC this week. Only one friendly in Wales by Taylor. I do not understand some of the comments. I said something simple; specific referees take over high profile matches no matter how well they handle matches before. Is that wrong? I do not think there is a conspiracy theory; there is just lack of fairness. I d like to see more of Treimanis, Agayev, Kulbakov, Kruzliak, Kralovec, Grienfield, Sidiropoulos etc.in high profile matches, and less of those who have made severe mistakes recently. As far Obredovic is concerned, I can only remember Collina to be given such an important appointment in his first international match. I do not think though it was a correct appointment.

      Delete
    23. And what's so important about one friendly between ITA and UKR? Besides, Obrenovic took charge after an invitation of Italian FA, the appointment wasn't made by UEFA at all.

      Delete
    24. Is it right the same ref to play the same team within less than 72 hours.?

      Delete
    25. HAHAHA dkm Poles best friends with Germans pffft.

      Delete
    26. Again, what are you insinuating? Is Obrenovic somehow biased towards or against Italy?! As I criminal judge I strongly suggest you to stop. Today I will inform the Slovenian FA as well as the police about your statements.

      Delete
    27. The ref obviously was not biased. A Personal opinion is not an accusation. I Am not blaming anyone for being biased. I am saying that the appointment was not right. Referees must be protected and not assigned to ref the same team within 3 days. Any ref..It is better if you recognise this and stop insulting me in this way. I wish the best of luck to all Slovenian referees. We deserve young refs with high spirit in Europe. You understand that we cannot agree in everything we say.

      Delete
    28. You have got to understand the point. I have nothing against one ref who does not have any responsibility. He tries to do his best obviously. But I am allowed to say that I disagree with something. And I am also allowed to say that some refs with bad performances continue to ref high profile match. That is subjective. It is not intentional. It is not a matter of the police investigating the matter, it is a matter of a different way of looking at things. I like a more holistic approach to football.

      Delete
    29. And it not the Germans behind that. It is simply a mistake behind that. Not an intentional mistake. I do believe though that German fa is the most influential in Europe, which is not necessarily bad as German refs are the best in Europe along the english.

      Delete
    30. Once again - the Italian FA invited Obrenovic to referee a friendly. The appointment of Obrenovic as ("just") AAR for POL-ITA was made by Slovenian FA, not UEFA. Whom exactly are you blaiming? Where do you see insults in my writing, do you know what insults are? Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but not without any objective grounds. That's slander, punishable by law.

    31. I am Athenian and I am going to give you a lesson of what democracy consists of. Democracy was born in Athens and I strongly advise you to read books about ancient Pericles. I admire the Scandinavian model of refereeing. My perceptions of refereeing are not the same as your perceptions. My perceptions of refereeing are the same as the former Uefa committee's perceptions, who promoted referees from Scandinavia, England, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium etc. Your perceptions of refereeing are the same with the current committee, who is promoting other refereeing styles in Europe. There is not any conspiracy theory behind that, it is just a different way of looking the world. All referees in the world do their best to achieve the highest level they can. They make mistakes as human beings, but I strongly believe they deserve and need support. My friend from Slovenia "I disagree with what you have to say, but I will defend, to the death, your right to say it."

      Delete
    32. Opinions are based on perceptions, life experience and observation. They are fully subjective and they do not have any objective ground. What is right for me, it is wrong for you. It is an interpretive way of thinking, not positivistic.

  17. Pawel Raczkowski is very poor detecting fouls. He did mistakes both sides, on 54th minute he gave yellow card to Tur #9 which is completely wrong. There is no foul if there is it should be against Russian player.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Few protests by Italian players but for me there is a clearly missed PK on Chiesa at 23’.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Very aggressive reaction by Skomina (minute 31') against a player from Italy who had been booked. He made the "two" gesture by fingers, almost hitting the player in face. If you ask me, sometimes he should be more calm in players management.

    1. I agree. YC was correct but the management was not the best :)

    2. Not convinced tonight by the Slovenian, I also didn’t appreciate this attitude while booking ITA8.
      Furthermore:
      - 14’: mandatory YC missed for ITA8 (reckless stamp)
      - 16’: missing YC for ITA23 (potential SPA)?
      - 16’: potential missing penalty for ITA.

    3. One a positive note, really impressive performance from Jure Praprotnik! Many excellent offside/onside calls. In my eyes, it's been an 8.7-8.8-level performance.

  21. Handball penalty incident in Russia - Turkey. Your thoughts?

  22. POL-ITA

Three clearly cautionable offences not punished by Skomina in the first 15 minutes. It's ultra-lenient approach and, imo, wrong. Of course, it's difficult to issue a YC for the stamp in 2) if there was no card for reckless studs-foul in 1). The problem is that Skomina didn't even warn both players, deeming both fouls as only minor ones, careless. Then, the SPA was an ideal moment for the starting caution, again not used...

    2) https://streamable.com/bxyba
    3) https://streamable.com/0dy7t

Penalty incidents. The first one the most tricky to assess - it's no foul or even attacker's foul if we deem Italian player as kicking the ball by down-up leg movement and it's a foul if we deem him as attacking ball in a dangerous studs-up manner. As it seems to be really borderline, I can accept the play-on call. Regarding second incident, there is nothing wrong done by Polish player. It's Italian who anticipates contact. Correct play-on. Also it's not enough to award a penalty in the third incident.
    1) https://streamable.com/5xtxd
    2) https://streamable.com/99bdz
    3) https://streamable.com/ns2nb

Trailing leg tackle wrongly assessed as fair. Fortunately for Skomina, it was outside the penalty area.
    https://streamable.com/6xw9x

Missed foul on Polish player and then not allowing Italian to quickly re-start the game. The ball was stationary and correctly positioned. And it's the Polish players' fault that they were dissenting at Skomina instead of being ready for counter-attack. Skomina's body language after all - the referee who knows that it was not his day.
