  1. It seems as, if he was really appointed for that game, Kovacs has been then removed from Sweden - France. I just wish that it is not because his appointment was made public, but I rather think that it was quite strange to see two Romanians in a row for France. So I guess very likely the info about that appointment was wrong.

    1. Are you implying that Romanian FA posted wrong information on their website? I would rather think that UEFA corrected last minute their own negligence in appointing two Romanian referees in a row for France.

  5. I will never understand why they give GIBSMR to Anufrijevs, these matches would about the only chance for the referees from these nations to get some experience outside their one ELQ match.

Big appointments for Schärer and Massa while Peljto in Skopje means UEFA remembers how disastrous the clash between those two for Strömbergsson was. Maybe a disappointing appointment for Rumšas, but perhaps geographical reasons were involved.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Fully agree about GIB SMR appointment; a referee from Andorra or Far Oer or Luxemburg would have been a good opportunity for them to get experience

      Delete
    2. There are 6 games in that group and 12 in the other group: there will be plenty of opportunities. Why should they be appointed on Matchday 1, since it is very unlikely that someone will be appointed twice in the same group?

      Delete
    3. Anufrijevs is a 2nd category referee, which seems to be a signal towards which referees will be appointed for League D. In the last edition, 3rd category referees were usually appointed for these matches. One will have to wait and see of course, but it is not a positive sign for 3rd category refs for sure.

      Delete
    4. On the other hand, it doesn't make much sense to appoint 3rd category referees, when there aren't even enough matches for all 2nd category referees - at least in theory

BTW, small observation: Out of the 11 3rd group referees, who got NL in the previous edition, only 3 (Kruashvili, Steen, Durieux) got promoted since then.

      Delete
    5. Yes, but do these games really need 2nd category refs and can they learn something in these matches? IMHO, League D matches should be reserved for 3rd category only.

      Delete
    6. If not in League D, where can Cat 3 referees get experience?

      Delete
    7. Cat 3 referees use to get experience in:

-UCL and UEL 1st qualifying round matches
-U17 Euro (qualifiers and final phase)
-U21 Euro qualifiers (mostly divided between Second and Third category referees)
      -Youth League group stage
      -(Hopefully) Nations League D league.

    1. @chefren do you know in wich Europian country the AAR project is still valid even for the new season.

      Delete
    2. The last one was Hungary, but not sure whether they continue in 2020/21.

      Delete
    3. I saw that recently the Albanian Super Cup has been played with additional assistant referees. Seen also in countries like San Marino and Andorra very often, but we must wait for new season now. Also Belarus for important games if I'm not wrong.

      Delete
    4. No, there wasn't AARs in this season in Belarus.

  7. Big game for Massa. Congrats to him.

  8. Penalty by Peljto in 2'. Good decision

    ReplyDelete
  9. 2nd penalty by Peljto. Good again

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sorry but clear YC had to be given in 40'to MAC player.
Same for ARM #5 in 45+2.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Third penalty by Peljto in 90+3. Correct IMO, but I'd have issued a YC either for SPA or DOGSO (genuine attempt to play the ball)

    ReplyDelete

    1. Thanks, how was he overall? Do you know if anyone on the benches was booked?

      Delete
    2. Yeah, Joaquín Caparrós (Armenia coach) was booked in the late stages of the game.

I didn't watch the whole game to make a full assessment of Peljto's performance, though.

      Delete
    3. I watched full game. He handled this game very well

  12. About YC for simulation by Anufrijevs in 12': Correct not to whistle a PK because Gibraltar players clearly playes the ball fairly, but do you think that it was really a simulation?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Wrong call from Jovanovic AR2 to disallow the English goal, it's more that Jovanovic made the mind up for his assistant because there was a delayed and unconvinced raise of flag, maybe to determine if the ball was touched by another English before Kane scored

    1. Violent conduct, kicking his opponent without attempting to play the ball. Good decision.

    1. Osmers has support hand rated. My opinion is for me penalty to Montenegro. Missed penalty by Osmers

  16. I do not think I am wrong in saying that Srdjan Jovanović will become a TOP referee in UEFA and FIFA. I see many similarities with Makkelie in character and personality aspect. Like Makke, the Serbian seems to me inflexible, strict, few words, rough. He lets play and intervenes as little as possible, remains transparent but the players stay away from him and is highly accepted by the players. This is a merit, new future TOP referee for Rosetti.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Wrong disallowed goal by AR2 Mihajlović in 5'.Maguire did not touch the ball and Harry Kane was onside when the ball was shoot. Jovanić should have intervened and report to his assistant, that Maguire did not touch the ball. Despite that 2 correct YCs for both teams.

Excellent RC by Kavanagh in Azerbaijan for a Violent Conduct. Azerbaijan player got a freekick and and as the reaction he kicked his opponent with his legs.

  19. OT LotG question:
    In Law 12, it says
"If the ball is within playing distance, the player may be fairly charged by an opponent."
So what happens, if a player is fairly charged by an opponent, when the ball is NOT within playing distance? And why?

  20. Could have easily been straight RC on Walker for England rather than second YC, with studs up tackle with extended leg hard into Iceland player's foot.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Correct 2nd YC for Kyle Walker (71') by Jovanović.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Very challenging end for Jovanovic !

  23. Dying minutes in Iceland-England are the most spectacular of the entire match. At first a correct penalty to the English for a handball offense of Ingason, who was sent off with his 2nd yellow card, and in additional time a penalty for the hosts, which can be discussed. According to the ref it was a holding offense, but if any holding it stopped outside the box. There could be a trip inside though.

    1. I think correct PK. Holding offence stopped onto the line if not outside, but there's a tripping.

  26. Why a YC, Marciniak?

100% RC for me, actually Marciniak initially reached his back pocket...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes,clear mistake by the Polish crew. Crystal clear RC.

      Delete
    2. It was probably one of the easiest RC decisions in his career, but I'd like to know why he desisted of issuing it and reached his right shorts pocket instead...

Clear desperate push from behind, zero intention of playing the ball.

    3. The only reasons I can think of do not fit the LotG, and those are the result and the minute.

  27. Any impressions of the Schärer match in Denmark?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Schärer did a good job in an easy-going game. Three early and correct YC’s resulted in a match under full control. Hardly any disputable situations, except for a no-penalty call a few seconds before Belgium’s 2nd goal which could have led to some discussion if the goal would not have been scored.

To be honest, absolutely no explanation for this YC decision by Marciniak, if not that he assessed genuine attempt to play ball. But I'm really in trouble to see this genuine attempt...
Very evident mistake, in a game with VAR, intervention needed.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agreed, íf you consider this minimal push a foul, which obviously Marciniak did, the only possible disciplinary sanction is a sending off. No explanation as to why he went for yellow.

      Delete
    2. No explanation for it. Bad decision.

  29. It's really hard to say something to this YC, because it's hard to believe.
We‘re talking about a referee who is an Elite referee.
To be honest, that's a mistake for me that shouldn't happen at this level!

    ReplyDelete
  30. And this is why (for me) Marciniak is not a top level Elite referee: he has too many of these kind of moments (also in games with VAR).

    ReplyDelete
  31. What about Massa?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Why do the experts of this site dislike Polish referee so much? Maybe the ball was under goalkeeper control when striker was pushed. So it was SPA no DOGSO.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm not biased, but I wasn't impressed by the games I watched of him, he has made some dodgy calls as VAR and I often see clips of big mistakes by him on this blog.

      Delete
    2. Nothing to do with disliking Polish refereeing, this is simply a quite blatant mistake. No way the goalkeeper was in possession of the ball at the moment of the push. And íf he would have been in possession of the ball it wouldn’t even have been a SPA.

  33. I Finally Got Helped !! I'm so excited right now, I just have to share my testimony on this Forum.. The feeling of being loved takes away so much burden from our shoulders.
