Still the same oddities than last year: - Nawaf Shukralla (born in 1976) became a FIFA referee in 1997 at the age of (still) 20, according to that list. - Bernadettar Kwimbira (born in 1991) became a FIFA assistant referee in 1996 at the age of (still) 4, according to that list.
https://twitter.com/ArbitroInteBlog Interesting info from our friends Arbitro International. It seems as Pitana will have a special permission to officiate CONMEBOL games, despite of having been removed from FIFA list. This should mean that he will be allowed to handle "domestic" (in the meaning of the confederation) competitions, like Libertadores, Sudamericana and so on, but not the FIFA games like FIFA tournaments and WC qualifiers... something lik a middle way between being FIFA referee and not. In UEFA we saw something very similar with the badge created for match officials, reporting UEFA officials, but there aren't cases like Pitana in South America, at least for now.
I meant the badges created for UEFA referees reporting the wording "UEFA official", something that shouldn't exist because an international referee is a FIFA referee and if not so, then NO FIFA. So we have also in UEFA this trend, but as for now only on paper.
It says Darren England has been an international since 2013. Is that true? I thought he was only just appointed to the premier league in the last couple years.
Attwell wasn’t an AR rather he was on the list and then removed then re entred in 2018 but FIFA has a one entry policy in such a way that whenever you are first registered with FIFA and for whatever reasons you are not on the list anymore and you enter back you retain your entrance number which is affiliated with the year you first became a FIFA official!! Darren England of course was a top Assistant Referee!! He would have achieved so much if he started as a Referee first and to think that he still has years on his side
It is common to see EPL referees with international AR experience. Darren England is a good example. He managed 2014-2015 Championship play-off final as a FIFA AR. Let's keep an eye on John Brooks, who also had AR experience. I predict that he will become a FIFA referee shortly.
Canadian Chenard used to be FIFA referee until 2019 and now became FIFA VMO. She is listed as FIFA "since 2022", so her prior time as FIFA referee is not counted.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the referee from Europe who is on the FIFA list for the longest time is Svein Oddvar Moen. Since 2005. Cakir is second, since 2006. Man, think at that, 17 years experience! And 3-4 more to come as he is now only 43... Too bad that there is no purpose for being on the list now. A huge talent wasted. If everything went well, now he would have been one of the most important referees in Europe, about Brych level. Shocking downfall unfortunately...
I think the UEFA referee with the longest time serving as FIFA referee is Bebek (2002 according to FIFA list, that means that he joined the list aged 24!)
Also, Bebek is still being appointed and he maybe has a chance of being appointed for UEL/UECL R16 since (IIRC) he successfully appealed his suspension by Croatian football federation, while Moen's last UEFA international match was in August 2019, at this point is clear that UEFA has 'put the cross on him' as we say in my country and will never be appointed again.
If there is no typing error 3 UEFA Referees are longest serving FIFA referees since 2002 Ivan Bebek (Croatia) Vasilis Dimitriou (Cyprus) Veaceslav Bunari (Moldova) 2 other referees from AFC also FIFA listed since 2002: Ali Al Qaysi (Iraq) Charymurat Kurbanov (Turkmenistan)
Siarhei Firynovich (BLR) Anton Paluyanau (BLR) Alen Jaksic (CRO) Ivan Mihalj (CRO) Kristijan Novosel (CRO) Luka Pajic (CRO) Jan Hurych (CZE) Marek Podaný (CZE) Dan Vodrážka (CZE) René Risum (DEN) Deniz Yurdakul (DEN) Juuso Mantere (FIN) Erwan Christophe Finjean (FRA) Robert Kempter (GER) Konstantinos Psarris (GRE) Christopher Campbell (IRL) Yossi Babayov (ISR) Rostislav Talis (ISR) Giovanni Baccini (ITA) Marco Bresmes (ITA) Granit Hyseni (KOS) Denis Oala (MDA) Roy de Nas (NED) Ole Haukasen (NOR) Marek Arys (POL) Bartosz Heinig (POL) Pedro Nuno Sá Martins (POR) Mihai Marius Marica (ROU) Ernesto Cristiano (SMR) Ross Macleod (SCO) Slobodan Pavlovic (SRB) Milan Sutulovic (SRB) Adam Jekkel (SVK) Tomáš Straka (SVK) Tomaž Černe (SVN) Iker de Francisco Grijalba (ESP) Pascal Hirzel (SUI) Dmytro Zaporozhenko (UKR)
Women:
Edjena Kapxhiu (ALB) Mirjeta Salla (ALB) Lena Hirtl (AUT) Darya Fedchanka (BLR) Tamara Dosen (BIH) Dorieta Valeva (BUL) Maria Christodolou (CYP) Tereza Hessová (CZE) Lucy Briggs (ENG) Vasileia Tsiklitari (GRE) Lucija Ciekure (LAT) Julia Bukarowicz (POL) Roxana Ivanov (ROU) Laura Cordani (SMR) Aleksandra Kostic (SRB) Ida Kellström (SWE) Iryna Chaika (UKR)
All three Zani, Cordani and Cristiano were AIA referees before joining San Marino. Cristiano reached serie D (fourth Italian level) as assistant referee, while Luca Zani and Laura Cordani didn't manage that, stopping their "Italian" career some steps below.
I do not focus closely on CONCACAF referees, but I would love to know if anyone knows the story of Roberto García? He did the U20 WC final in 2013, and at that time I thought he would be in WC one day. Any news about him and is he retired from refereeing?
Roldan tonight bellow any level. I cannot believe. After this, if I am an observer, I would rate him 7,5. Sorry, but if Collina saw this, hope that Roldan would not go on WC.
So Allison gives up a PK and gets a 2YC at the end of stoppage time and VAR intervenes again. Obviously I have no problem with the intervention, but I can't remember a time where a player was shown a red twice and survived both times!
IMO, the Red Card to Allison was a clearer mistake than the late penalty. The first situation is dangerous play, but the contact then is mainly caused by the attacker. No room for SFP there, I think.
The penalty is not that wrong. Yes, Allison gets the ball first, but he still punches his opponent quite heavily and as we know, playing the ball doesn't excuse everything. So rather no clear and obvious error for me. However the OFR might be justified, if Roldan had the wrong perception, that Allison missed the ball.
Anyone else that gets the ball but has a reckless fallow-through will be punished with foul and YC. It seems to be different when the goalkeeper punches the ball. Again, like in the first scene, Alisson misjudges the spin of the ball and has to make a high risk challenge with the opponent near. For the 1st scene (direct RC) I think Alisson kicked the ball and only later the strikers momentum takes him into his foot (no studs). In the 90' minute he punches the ball and the under part of his arm catches the strikers head enough to be deemed reckless. Maybe in south america the "I got the ball" argument is much bigger than in Europe. I'm also not conviced by the late VARint.
Bastien sent off a goalkeeper for something similar in UEL in December 2020 and UEFA have not assigned him any matches for 6 months after that, so it was considered wrong in Europe as well.

What do you mean Chefren about the badge created for match officials reporting to uefa officials?
DeleteI meant the badges created for UEFA referees reporting the wording "UEFA official", something that shouldn't exist because an international referee is a FIFA referee and if not so, then NO FIFA. So we have also in UEFA this trend, but as for now only on paper.
DeleteInteresting, that Loustau - two months older than Pitana - has been kept on the list. So age can't really be the only reason there.
DeleteClear now Chefren thanks. It's just a theoretical badge on the paper. Infact I had not in mind real examples within Uefa
DeleteLa edad ha dejado de ser un requisito excluyente, así que no puede ser la única razón por la que Pitana no es más internacional FIFA.
Delete3 new VARS for England with Madley, England and Constantine (would wrote surname but its long and can't remember how to spell)

ReplyDeleteNew CAF referees - Assistant Referees
ReplyDeletehttps://fromsmash.com/NEW-CAF-REF-ASS
Wow, challenging start for Roldan in Ecuador vs Brazil, 2 red cards in 20 minutes... IMO correct decisions.
ReplyDelete3 red cards by Roldan in the early 20 minutes of ECU - BRA.
ReplyDeleteTo be watched.
Third red card changed to yellow card after long discussions and OFR.
DeleteNow situation with Allison is 50 50,ref can be backed, but also O dont think YC is wrong decision.
DeleteGrey area.
YC is the better decision for me as there wasn't much force. I'm not convinced by the OFR though, RC could be supported I think.
DeleteI'd agree on the Allison one. Not sure it should have been sent down even if yellow is probably preferred.
DeleteI agree with M, Elliot and CWY2190

ReplyDeleteWhat a match for Roldan, maybe the most challenging match of the year so far.
ReplyDeleteSo many crucial decisions, so many VAR interventions, but at the end I think that he will be hapoy with no crucial mistakes in very hot atmosphere.
So you mean when he is incorrect but changes hos mind after VAR he has made no crucial mistakes? Easier to be a pro then an amateur referee then.
DeleteSo Allison gives up a PK and gets a 2YC at the end of stoppage time and VAR intervenes again. Obviously I have no problem with the intervention, but I can't remember a time where a player was shown a red twice and survived both times!
ReplyDeleteIf VAR was not there to save Roldan's a... then I dont what grade he would get.
ReplyDeleteVery bad Roldan today
ReplyDeleteVar saved him...
IMO, the Red Card to Allison was a clearer mistake than the late penalty.
