  1. Clear YC on 12' for reckless challenge.

  2. Correct YC for reckless. Higher poiny of contact and red wouldn't be out of the question

  3. Correct first YC. It was mandatory

  4. Correct YC on 14' for SPA/reckless challenge

  5. Excellent opportunity to even out cards and he used it.

    1. The Brazilian player dives before any contact. It's never a foul. It should have been a yellow card for diving…

  7. I think good no foul decision just before hydration break

  8. Great no-call in 23'. Brazilian Player is already going down before the contact

    1. What? Is he not allowed to protect himself from a very late and borderline reckless challenge?

    2. Could have easily avoided contact by going around or jumping over

    1. Hmmm...I don't think it is mandatory. The contact point is lighter. But very late whistle.

  10. 23’ is a foul but no caution. Ball would have gone out so no SPA

  11. Mariani! How came he is in this position? He was considered not good enough last year CWC to getting important games in this World Cup. Did he just improve a lot with in a year??

    1. Nothing to do with being Italian ,he has proved himself to be a very good referee in European Competition .Showing a good understanding of the game and communicating well with players

    2. I am also slightly surprised granted he hasn't put a foot wrong in his earlier matches but they were far less contentious / ' high profile ' as this one so I'm surprised they gave a debutant arguably one of the contentious fixtures in this round along with Morocco - Netherlands for me

    1. Not unnaturally bigger, not deliberate, ball from teammate. Doesn’t matter if it denied a goal. No handball.

  14. So far, very good game from Marianni. The only mistake, imo, was the missed YC at 32min.
The game is not being very harsh, players are focused on playing but he is also contributing for that.

  17. This is as of now, a really good performance by Mariani..

  18. I noticed for some time now that referees no longer wait for players to get up before issuing cards to them.

  19. Showing the YC to a player on the ground?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Zero issues with that. No reason at all to wait. Just myths and incorrect instructions by amateurs that you need to wait for them to get up.

    1. And did you see added time?

He made sureno second was lost and added everything perfectly..

Why he does not do that in Serie A,I have no idea.

  25. Very convincing performance by Mariani in my opinion. Full control, great disciplinary line, great communication and also good work by the assistants. I am not his biggest fan but that was close to perfect. With such performances the tournament can go on for quite some time for him

  27. Great performance today. He called the simple fouls and punished tactical fouls. Almost felt out of place at this tournament.

  28. Very good performance. Deserved 4th appointment in the tournament.

    1. He was that good and flawless but a 4th game will be too much for him because of the quality of other referees still involved, remember yesterday Pinheiro was also out of this world

    2. Pinheiro was good yesterday, but in my opinion Mariani was clearly better today. Especially when talking about presence and body language

  29. Mariani and Turpin were the best UEFA referees so far! Even with that being so obvious, the boring Letexiertes little club here, keep trying to invent a truth far from reality. It's the guy's first World Cup, he'll never have a final on his shoulders. Isnt Collina style. Wake up

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes,but after Letexier, Nyberg,Vinic,Makkelie,Oliver. And about Letexier final, expect the unexpected, of course if he delivers like until today!

  31. Perhaps a round of 16 now for Mariani... i think hes just below QF level however his nationality could cause him to go much further
