  1. I'm confused. Peter Bankes and Andy Madley (England) are both down to be on a VAR team but not on the FIFA VAR list. Could it just be that they are trained and being utilised atm.

  2. Is a first time when will lead a full-female officiating crew? I can see that on VAR are mens but few days ago Frappart was alone as girl.

    1. It already happened here:

14 November 2020, San Marino - Gibraltar 2020-21 Nations League.

  3. Remarkable, that Makkelie doesn't have Dutch VARs.

Otherwise quite normal appointments, with a rather disappointing match for Gestranius.

    1. I guess this can be due to many appointments and the need of specialized VAR in several games.

    2. They could have easily swapped Irrati with Kamphuis.

      Delete
    3. Would even be much closer for Irrati, to go to San Marino.

  4. It seems that something happened to Juan Carlos Yuste Jiménez.
There are some messages on twitter. I wish him the best, whatever it is.

  5. Interesting AVAR appointment in Kazan for Belarus - Wales, with Giacomo Paganessi, Italian NO FIFA (but extremely experienced assistant referee), so this is the confirmation that AVARs are appointed by federations, UEFA appoints only main VAR.

    1. Yes, also happened with German AVAR on MD4 (Sinn and Wessel). As long as they have the AVAR experience from their domestic league, this should not be a problem - but indeed contradicts the idea of FIFA VMOs.

    2. i think the amount of var/avars needed exceeds the fifa vmo list by far...probably something that those who wanted to implicate var in this qualifiers never thought about before. do we have enough people^^

    3. If I count correctly, there are 100 UEFA referees and ARs on the FIFA VMO list. And we have 75 matches on MD4-6.
So with the double appointments, which we already see, it would be somehow possible, although some of the VMOs are also used as referees.
But apparently UEFA doesn't care much about that list. E.g. even Aranovsky, who got two VAR appointments, is not on it.

  6. Good appointement for Oliver (BEL-CZE) ! Safe decision by Rosetti

  7. In my opinion, rather poor game for Makkelie this time. He always gets top clashes from UEFA, but not this time from FIFA. I really am surprised that nobody seems to remark this. Or am I exagerating and is this really a top clash ? And why the top VAR Irrati ?? That's a second big surprise for me. I don't get it.

    1. Let's remember that it is UEFA making these appointments and not FIFA, the latter just approves them.
In my opinion an analysis of this assignment can be made by reading the standings. It looks like both teams, Albania and Hungary, can have a last chance for at least second place and then play off round. This can be even more important, because, said with respect, the rest of the teams in the group are not on the same level (Andorra and San Marino). So the "fight" is reduced to these four teams, including England and Poland.
You can add that for sure it could turn to a very challenging and physical game, and maybe you have the answer for such appointment, main referee and VAR.

    2. It is not a poor game for Makkelie.
2 teams that are very passionate and have plenty of fighting spirit in them.
Game for sure will be very physical and dirty, I mean you saw how quickly Albanians lost t their temper against Poland, and they have that Balkan mentality that can be very not fair play often.
Samo for Hungary, very phisycal team that needs to win, they have plenty games that have 5 or more bookings so all in all I think that this is gonna be challenging match for Makkelie.
Maybe Cakir or even Brych would have been better name for this type of match, but I think that Makkelie won't dissapoint.

      Delete
    3. On the opposite, its a difficult game. More or less equal teams, both are fighting at least for the play-off spot. Expect a lot of passion, a lot of fouls and a lot of play-acting)

      Delete
    4. Cakir was in Hungary-England in MD4 3 days ago :)

    5. I know,I was just saying that his style would be better for this type of match.

  8. Not every game is a "blockbuster" but the Elite referees need to be used. Why shouldnt those nations have an Elite referee? Often games between nations closer in quality are for more difficult to referee.

    1. I completely agree with you. This is another way how those big names should be assigned. Great appointment from my view

  9. Reading on uefa site, in the early 30' of BLR - WAL there have been already three pitch decisions by Kruashvili checked and confirmed by VAR, two penalties and a YC in 11' for a player from Belarus, I guess in the latter case possible SFP.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Penalty and yc was correct in both cases.

11'YC was very orange one, could have been red easily, but no mistake to issue YC.

    2. For me Belarus penalty was doubtful, yes Gunter foot was high but I didn't see any contact. An indirect free kick would have been a better option.

    3. I agree with M regarding the two penalty incidents.

    4. And a 3rd penalty by Giorgi Kruashvili, all 3 penalties are absolutely spot on!! The second penalty of the game awarded to Belarus that was claimed to be doubtful was actually very correct, watch closely and see the contact made on the shoulder of the attacker by the high boot.

      Delete
    5. Thank you, both calls absolutely correct in my opinion.
A replay in the second case shows that the contact happened.
In case of NO CONTACT this would have been very mandatory indirect free kick to be whistled for dangerous play!
Regarding the first penalty, I praise referee as well, because many times, you know, when ball is already kicked, this kind of penalty is not whistled for some reasons.
The keeper was reckless and I think he got YC for that, otherwise it could have been whistled without card.

    6. All pks correctly given IMO. In a game with 3 penalties, 5 goals and no VAR intervention, one has to say that Kruashvili did well and probably deserves high grade.

  11. What's happening in Brazil - Argentina?
Only in CONMEBOL you can see such things...

    ReplyDelete

    1. The problem is that officials from the Brazilian health authorities came onto the field to immediately quarantine 4 players from the Argentine team. The 4 players are:
      - Emiliano Buendia (Aston Villa)
      - Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa)
      - Giovani Lo Celso (Tottenham Hotspur)
      - Cristian Romero (Tottenham Hotspur)

According to Brazil's corona rules, passengers who have been in Britain in the past fourteen days must first stay in quarantine for two weeks upon arrival in Brazil. According to the Brazilian authorities, the four Argentinians have incorrectly filled in their travel documents.

    3. Yes but sorry, how much absurd is that? All people knew that they were coming from England, so how is that possible? CONMEBOL? Informing national teams before? Solving this problem? In my opinion it is clear that Brazilian officials made this blatant action due also to rivalry against Argentina. It was something known by everybody, all federations, CONMEBOL, FIFA and so we have this situation. No words. Full loss of credibility from the South American confederation.

      Delete
    4. I'm a brazilian and I just have to say that the ANVISA does the right thing. AFA falsified the players documents before come here, and omitted their situation. ANVISA is correct!

      Delete
    5. Authorities have the power to delay kick-off. The action taken might be correct, the procedure is not (why were they allowed in the stadium? Why was kick-off allowed?). Even if the action itself is correct, this is simply ridiculous.

    6. CONMEBOL made some statements giving full responsibility to referee and FIFA for having stopped the game.

  12. Offside or not?

    1. WOW! A very special case for sure!
I stopped the frame when player in offside was in front of ball, and keeper was focused on him, expecting the shot. For this reason, I would go for offside, because the influence looked to be evident, but... in reality, attacker didn't make any movement and / or clues showing that he wanted to play ball. So NO FLAG could be maybe supported.
Easier to answer regarding VAR intervention or not, if you have such complex situation, better to leave field decision, in my opinion.

  13. Del Cerro Grande with a penalty call in 51' reported by AR1.
He hadn't whistled at first glance. Very good teamwork.
No ball, only attacker hit by tackle, YC for reckless challenge possible but not given.

  14. Very soft penalty by Gestranius (77') changed to a free kick outside the box. I haven't managed yet to find a foul outside though...
IMO correct outcome would have been an OFR for completely taking back the foul decision, because the small contact was caused by the attacker.

  15. Potential foul at the Kosovo equalizer (90+2'), but IMO acceptable to play on - no clear pushing or charging.

Absolutely agree. This kind of challenge must remain at referee's discretion. Never VAR stuff. No replay needed!
An intervention in such situation would be clear mistake by VAR. Good decision by French officials.

    2. I agree. Good decision by the French officials. No foul.

  16. Take a look at this RC by Gassama in Gabon - Egypt:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLtMQoRPKYY
Minute 69:30 of the game, 01:34:40 in the video.
    Chaotic management.
At first YC is shown to #5 EGY, wrong player, then I think an advice from FO, the only official close to incident and the right player, #4 EGY, is booked. He had already his first card. Too much arrogant behavior by Gassama afterwards.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My impression is, that the mistaken identity was only by the TV director and Gassama immediately showed the YC to #4.
Then it seems, #4 was not aware of having been booked before (?).
But yes, the behaviour doesn't look good.

    1. Situation is not clear, for me not even a foul, as Philipp reported.
However, I guess this was what referee punished:
      https://ibb.co/DDxmBKf
The arm pushing on the back.

      Delete
    2. No, Gestranius clearly shows 'tripping' gesture. It indeed occured outside the penalty area but it's also a totally wrong call as SMR player simply puts his foot on the ground and the contact is initiated by POL player.

      This moment:

    3. I think that this would be a supportable decision if it was inside the pennalty area, as there is a push and also a contact with the legs. But anyhow best solution for mme would be play on,,
