FRANCE-NETHERLANDS

Assistant referee 1: Maximilian Weiss (AUT)
Assistant referee 2: Luka Pušić (CRO)
Fourth official: Dario Bel (CRO)
UEFA Referee Observer: Matteo Simone Trefoloni (ITA)
UEFA Delegate: Zaur Haji-maharramov (AZE)
Definitely deserved trough his great efforts during this tournament. I'm looking forward to see him handle some bigger games in UEFA-competitions in the future.
ReplyDeleteBut first, all the best for the final!
From UEFA's point of view, the performances might have been rather disappointing: With eight referees and seven games in the knockout stage, one could have expected to see just one of them acting solely as fourth official after the group stage. Instead, UEFA appointed just five out of them (two of them twice) as main referees whereas two weren't even considered as fourth officials.
ReplyDeleteThe appointment of referees and the use of fourth officials at this tournament was indeed different...
DeleteReally OT Question:
ReplyDeleteIn every major final, maybe also every major game, during the entering of the Teams, there is a (official looking) guy in a suit, who enters just before the referees and basically shows them where to line up.
Has anybody any information on who that guy is, what his job besides the entering stuff is and to what purpose he's used?
I believe he's also the one to tell the referee when to blow the first whistle, which is probably for TV and media to all be on the same page?
Is a World Cup Final so important that they don't want the teams to line up in the wrong spot? Hard to believe...
Appreciate the insights, if anybody knows.
Thanks
Sounds like a delegate or venue director, both are appointed by UEFA
