Not that much of a high profile game for Taylor.
ReplyDeletefirst foul was by uzbekistan player on the YC situation no ?
ReplyDeleteFirst YC: Taylor gave it for SPA because the Colombian player threw himself on the opponent making him fall down, but one can argue that it was possible to whistle foul against UZB before... not a clean situation, but once you let game flow, then you have to give free kick to attacker.
ReplyDeleteThe great and iconic Ravshan Irmatov at the stadium!
ReplyDeleteCorrect YC, clear SPA, hope the cameraman is ok.
ReplyDeleteTwo correct YCs so far
ReplyDeleteGood call by AR2
ReplyDeleteSecond YC was mandatory as well, while now, 45'+1, he could have booked again but he didn't. Clear howw the English referee thinks to book only for very evident situations.
ReplyDeleteNo comments for the whole second half tells the story. Good job by Taylor
ReplyDelete+1 indeed

I hardly follow the World Cup, but a German magazine named Ramon Abatti the best referee of the first group stage day. Why is he only second to last in your ranking?
DeleteWithout knowing the performances of all the referees, I’m more critical of Wilton Sampaio. Not because of the three red cards shown in the opening match, but because of his VAR announcement. We know South Americans are generally reluctant at speaking English. But this referee already has World Cup experience and has participated in numerous FIFA tournaments. I just don’t understand why FIFA didn’t make sure the candidates have a sufficiently good command of English. I'm not talking about negotiating contracts, but being able to clearly communicate the limited vocabulary needed for VAR announcements. I also find it disappointing that Wilton Sampaio didn’t set that standard for himself. That’s how he became a media joke character that no one takes seriously.
