  3. Early and good YC. Clearly a SPA

  4. It's not usual to see him hand out those cards in the local league.

    2. If he gave a YC for SPA earlier on, then surprised this wasn’t given. Clear shirt hold and no intention of playing the ball. The biggest change was the position on field side vs central plus being so far wide, so perhaps this may justify the non-decision.

  6. After a fantasic start, he lets himself down badly with no YC on 14” minute. Really really poor, was clearly mandatory player was advancing down the touch line into the area.

    1. It may have been 'smart' to balance, but he indicated it was going towards the corner, which is true, and in line with how any non-100% SPA has been dealt with in this tournament, no card is absolutely fine

    2. The problem is that the QAT team's complaints are starting and it could turn into a very complicated match.

  7. Normal foul. The player comes in diretion of the side line. Also we are in the beggining of the game. Correct "No YC".

    1. Yes, I just think the previous YC for SPA so early in the game showed that he wasn’t so concerned about keeping his cards in his pocket early

  8. I am surprised that on this WC, some people appears on this blog only to say the worst possible of same referees.

    1. Feel like this happens every major tournament here. If they ref gives less than 10 YCs they were terrible.

  9. Clear RC DOGSO without playing the ball

    1. Ok. Not correct, but really hard to spot live. Good VAR intervention to overturn it to free kick and RC

  11. oh it's outside good job by VAR

  12. Seems a 50/50 situation. And good english from Garay

    1. This is what we have been asking for +1

Shame that the audio seemed to be breaking up as he spoke but much better English and clearly spoken too

  13. Good job by VAR but again bad announcement. Correct decision by the team but IMO you could have argued if penalty then RC too

    1. Agree for me either PK or FK is a RC if you consider that there is a foul

  14. Yesterday Ghana Panama no PK and here softest foul possible RC...

  15. I don't see any contact on the legs, just a slight push, for me never a penalty or red card. Bizarre to review the location of the foul but not review the decision itself.

    1. Blatant contact on the legs.

      Delete
    2. Yes the contact is definitely there, the QAT defender clearly make contact with his foot on the back of CAN att causing his legs to collide leading to the trip

      Delete
  16. Super soft foul. Almost nothing and never enough for a foul and rc

    1. Maybe you missed the blatant trip on the legs…

  17. A very difficult play; the commentators have many doubts about the foul, but it is known that at speed any touch, however slight, can cause the striker to fall.

  18. 2nd YC missed for simulation ?

  19. Excellent no penalty decision in 43'

  20. Garay really struggling to control this match

    ReplyDelete
  21. 44' Spot on no penalty, the Canada attacker kicked the defender. We also see the big plus of the UEFA and many European leagues 'Only the Captain' rule. This constant mobbing and dissenting just being ignored is not a good look for the game

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Terrible to see that there nothing is done to avoid dissent situations, really clear tonight with Qatar players, terrible message to not give any sanctions for this.

      Delete
    2. Unfortunately, does not apply in the local league

    3. This is a big thing is Asia to be honest, see plenty of this during Asian competitions.

    4. That's what we see on weekends; they prefer to talk, calm things down, and let the game continue. Basically, it's about not making a fuss.

  22. Eventful first half for Garay, but he handled it well. VAR intervention was on the edge, really hard to spot live.

    1. Agree, I thought there was a contact in the penalty area but hard to pick up that contact with the legs outside the penalty area.

  23. Poor first half from Garay, has not dealt well with Qatari mobbing and off the ball fouls ,needs to treat both teams the same ,maybe Collina has told him to be careful because Qatar Airways provide Infantino's transport

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes Qatari mobbing issue but don’t think it makes it poor first half. Off the ball fouls?

  24. A few yellow cards for Canada needed there. Careless tackle and a complete unlucky accident

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. A careless tackle leads to a broken bone? Canadian team clearly distressed and emotional due to team mates broken bone. Think an understanding of the situation is needed here

      Delete
    2. Have you ever seen the Son red card on Andre Gomes? It was a different situation but clearly not SFP, just a fluke.

If the Canada players were actually bothered about Kone they would have consoled him rather than go after the Qatar player who was distressed himself

  25. Sounds like it's a broken leg player now sent off

  26. Correct YC i guess, terrible picture there, clearly put in danger the opponent

    ReplyDelete
  27. Was the red card actually shown?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Has anyone got a video? No replay here and no way to rewind on the rubbish ITVX. It looked reckless at absolute most. I get the Canada players are upset their teammate is injured but it wasn’t a nasty challenge

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The leg is completely broken from the live angle, don't think another decision than RC is acceptable, just so high degree of danger for his opponent.

      Delete
    2. The initial video of the decision wasn’t exactly clear and there will be no replay of the tackle. Only VAR will see the replays.

      Delete
  29. Is this according to protocol? Shouldn't the referee review the foul on the monitor before giving RC?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think he change it by himself by just seeing the player injury, no VAR intervention imo.

      Delete
    2. I assume he has decided based on the injury (or the onfield team have), to upgrade to a red (although didn't see the YC cancelled, but I assume it would have been). And on the basis the RC isn't clearly wrong (I guess having not reseen it), then no need to review

      Delete
    3. We either saw the ref give the RC through context or the VAR telling him to give the red but we don't want you to come to the monitor to show the world the replay. Either way, logic prevailed.

      Delete
    4. What I can tell you, and it has happened in the local league, is that the referee, upon seeing the result of the infraction, a serious injury like this one, changes his initial decision.

      Delete
    5. Logic prevailed. Agree, nobody needs to see the replay. The referee gave the RC before the VAR stuff came up on the screen. Many people missed it because they were concerned about the player.

Referee should have made it a bit more ceremonial, blow the whistle, call the player over and show the red card. Live he just walked up to the player had some words and showed the RC

      Delete
  30. You could hear on the microphones that the stuff said he broke his leg. Crazy scenes now. All the best to the player

  31. Maybe injury impact was deciding factor like when Son got RC.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have a feeling this game could explode

    ReplyDelete

    1. I dont think so Qatar cant do anything and also this injury will maybe calm both teams.

      Delete
    2. I agree, both teams were very emotionally affected by the tackle. I think the RC will calm everything down.

  33. On FS1 you could hear the bone break (sounded like a branch snapping in half).

you can see the leg probably broken.

  35. Now it's becoming terrible, lot of big fouls, that can be a disaster end here.

    1. Very difficult situation here to manage. Perhaps needs a bit more player management here?

  36. Qatar continuing to make dirty tackles

    1. I understand that Qatar are desperate but sometimes you can’t predict the response to a traumatic event like a broken leg. You’d think they would temper the aggression.
