    1. Best appointments are for Gil Manzano and Jaime Latre (autonomic derbis). Also, good appointment for Cuadra Fernández given how both teams currently are. Mateu Lahoz's appointment is also good.

By the way, it is Sevilla FC and Girona FC, not CF. Sorry for the mistake.

    1. This time, the best appointment is clearly for Hernández Hernández with a very difficult match. TBH, I don't know if it was really appropriate given his current form and the last El Clásico he handled. Maybe it would have been better to give him another rival for Real Madrid rather than Sevilla. It has proven to be a very challenging match in the last seasons.

Apart from this, also good match for del Cerro Grande (the second best on this MD, IMO). Also, a significant absence in this round of appointments is Alberola Rojas, who is neither appointed as main VAR during MD5 nor MD6. Is there a CORE course or something on those dates?

One final opinion regarding the appointments. Velasco Carballo stated that appointments would be done based on current form of the referees. But form is something that changes over the season and those who started very well might not be as well at the moment. Hope they keep that in mind and stop that policy of "the best appointments go to del Cerro or Gil Manzano if they are elegible", because they are not that much over the other referees at the moment, in my opinion. And it has been a constant in the 6 MD so far.

      Delete
    2. I think that Alberola Rojas is busy with the second session of CORE, including some matches to referee in France and Switzerland low divisions...

      Delete
  6. I do wonder who appoints the observers on those matches.

Vidi - Bate is the other match on the group that PAOK is playing. They have appointed a Greek observer. Ok, he can't influence the result but such things could be avoided.

Plus the spesific observer never had a GS match as a referee.

    1. Very interesting, if you manage to know more...
      I found this:
      https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-44354819
      [...]
Simon arrived in Russia on Sunday, after a work trip to Germany.
      [...]

So it seems as his work is related in a way with Germany, maybe this can be a reason...

    3. BTW correct decision by AR2 to dissallow a goal in 56'. Close offside after a free kick.

    4. Thank you for your information!

    5. After this offside call, Bieri had a consultation with AAR2. The decision was then confirmed.

  12. Sandro Schärer is not in charge in Wien. Another referee was shown now on TV.

    2. Batta as observer has been replaced as well by Paulius Malžinskas (LTU), originally planned for Mazzoleni.
In Bulgaria, new observer for the Italian crew is Robert Sedlacek (AUT).
Batta is now observing Aghayev in Rome.

    3. Batta comes from Marseilles, so "his" team in the same group H.

  13. Clear penalty to SS Lazio whistled by Aghayev.
    So far, a good performance.

    2. Absolutely unbelievable decision by Jug and his AAR to deny penalty on Thauvin. Cristal fault here. Pity.

  15. Already three offsides called from AR1 Culum in Leipzig in the first 4 minutes. Two were very close but wrong decided IMO.

    1. Perhaps Ekberg missed a FK + DOGSO red in 9'. But need a better replay to be sure. Challenging start for tve swedish crew, especially AR1.

    2. Agreed. IMO missed FK and RC for DOGSO.

  20. I was live on the stadium for Vertenten in London. Easy match, no problems for the referee team, expected level.

  21. Watched most of the Rangers game featuring István Kovács, and the Celtic match with Paweł Gil - good performances from both.

  22. Marseille had at least 1 penalty for a handball (in 2nd half). Other penalty could have been whistled for a foul on Thavin.

I watched a big part of PAOK- Chelsea. Mallenco awarded 3 minutes of ET (like all the spanish referees who are uncapable to award more than 3 minutes). ET lasted more than 5 minutes because of injury of Pedro and a dispute between Rudiger and Warda (resolved with YC for both).
But effective playing time in ET was not more than 30 seconds. This is unacceptable. This is a problem of many referees in Europe, they don't respect the minutes of ET. They should watch football games from England or Italy too see a proper management of ET.
Otherwise, I can't say that I like Mallenco. I thought for a long time that he was disadvantaged by the UEFA committee. But his performances were too often inaccurate. I watched him in France- Holland where he missed a penalty for Holland. Also today he has minor mistakes. What annoyed me is the fact he gave an advantage for Chelsea despite an obvious dangerous free-kick (not a nice thing for a referee who is already 45 years old). I'm not sure about the exact place of the push against Pedro at the end of the game. Maybe it was in the area but I'm not really sure (also there is a discussion between YC and RC for El Kaddouri)

    1. God that’s such a pet peeve for me: Spanish referees, regardless of what happens, seem incapable of/against adding on more than three minutes. So annoying. The match could be stopped for 1:30 IN INJURY TIME and they’ll STILL stop it at exactly 3:00. Ugh

    2. It looks like none of you have watched a match from Spain this season. It is indeed something Spanish referees used to do wrong. It has been one of the areas the new president of CTA has focused on. So far, in Spain there have been 9 minutes of additional time in at least three or four matches, with several more with 5+.

    3. @George I watched more that you imagine. Yes, that were some cases here amd there (there is VAR starting with this season), but for a referee who was used to manage the ET minutes in a particular "spanish" style for entire his career it's really difficult to change. Best example is Mallenco, his ET management in Salonic was terrible.
On the other hand, it's nice to hear that Velasco Carballo is more careful with this problem. But it will take some time for spanish referees to adapt to a new style

    4. The same in Germany. We have the phrase, that the ET is the death of the referee.

      It's a shame!

    5. Huesca- Sociedad (Iglesias Villanueva)
1 goal, 2 red cards, 6 susbstitutions, al lot of wadting time => 4 minutes ET

      Real- Espanyol (Mateu Lahoz)
6 susbstitutions => classical 3 minutes of ET (I didn't watch entire 2nd half but probably 1 more minut of ET would have been fully undeserved...))

      Delete
    6. Agree about Iglesias Villanueva, disagree about Mateu Lahoz. One of the substitutions was a double one, and there was not much more I can remember on the second half to increase the ET from 3 minutes.

      Delete
    7. The rules are clear: 30 seconds for each substitution. Don't exist the term "double substitution", substitutions are made one after other (even if are made in same pause of the game).
Tonight Gil Manzano also awarded 3 minutes in Barca- Girona (4 susbstitutions and 2 goals). The problem with Gil manzano were not the ET minutes but he didn't detect 2 fouls against Barca's players (Busquets and Messi) made in very dangerous positions in last 5 minutes of the game.

Anyway, what I want to say is the fact the mentality of spanish referees is oriented to an as short as possible period of ET.
