  1. So Hategan is the only elite referee who wasn't at world cup without appointment yet

    1. I was preety shocked this morning when I saw he didn't get a match. I was almost sure he will whistle Spain- Croatia.
Honestly, I don't know what to say. I don't think he's injured, his last game in romanian league was on 2.09 (just few days after Besiktas- Partizan in EL play-off).
Unfortunately for him, Hategan is born in Romania ...

  2. Very happy for Benoit Bastien, great appointement for him

  3. We saw new thinking from committee to give big matches to young referees . And it's a sign that we will see new faces in UCL and UEL and that is the point . We are boring from seeing same faces over and other again

Chefren, sorry for off-topic question but why did you begin to spell Karasev as Karasov, Lunev as Lunov and Moskalev as Moskalov? Well, in Russian the correct letter is ё which corresponds to a sound [yo]. Many people are not using ё here because it's a rare letter and it's not convenient to put the dots over e. However, they all substitute ё by e and not by o. Karasov, Lunov, Moskalov all sound a bit weird to me.

    1. As they are pronounced Karas-yov, Luny-ov, Moskalov in Russian, it wouldn't be OK to replace "ё" by "e" in my opinion, as it wouldn't correspond to correct pronunciation. When I typed it in Google Translator some months ago it romanized that into "Karasov". However, now I see the GT romanizes that into Karasev, Lunev, Moskalev, etc.

OK, we will replace it with "e" if you deem that as more natural.

  5. Kruzliak as AAR1! The second UNL appointment for him in these days. If I remember correctly thogether with Maae and Glova he is in charge twice!

    1. A FIFA referee is needed apperently, but just 1. It's good to see that Kruzliak is still willing to be 5th official.

  7. OT

A very tragic incident happened yesterday on the fitness test for candidate referees for Greek 3rd League.

A young referee collapsed during the test and was rushed to the hospital. His condition is critical and he is now in ICU.

Let's hope that he will fully recover.

  9. I would appreciate your thoughts about possible penalty and 2nd yc from Kruzilak game on MD1. IMO he should have awarded penalty and 2nd yc was to soft

    1. Penalty should be whistled. Arms are not supposed to be put there. The second yellow was a regular foul and the opponent simulated to make it look worse.

    1. Two clear red cards. The tackle and the strangling.

  11. Easy first half by Kulbakou. 1 correct caution for simulation to Tzavelas. Good control of the match and good management of the players.

AR1 with a wrong offside call against Hungary (11') and AR2 with a missed offside prior to 1-1 for Greece (18').

    1. They are already in 7.9. Not very good game for ARs

      Delete
    2. Equally good 2nd half for Kulbakou. All cautions were correct. Not really challenged, however.

AR2 with another mistake offside at min. 63'.

Definitely not a good day for both AR's.

      Delete
    3. It was a gamble with a continuous movement, without pauses. Kulbakov made a good impression, complete control of the game only with his decisions without additional efforts. Claims only to AR, which is surprising, because there have never been problems before.

    1. That's a nice wonky one -- lesson to be learned here, watch the FK... in this case, the referee turns his back on the FK, and I suspect that the 4O (based on gestures/etc by the referee after) informed him via comms that the ball was rolling/etc, which is why the referee blows up when he does... just before the shot on goal, rather than right away, when the offence happens. 4O was likely in that state of "did he see it, no, ok, push-to-talk, inform."

We can expect Rocchi in CL on Tuesday or Wednesday, rather on Tuesday I think. He is appointed as VAR for a game on Saturday afternoon, while Di Liberatore and Tonolini will be both in Napoli - Fiorentina the same day, a few hours later.
Napoli - Fiorentina is the most interesting game of the week, Fabbri will be new FIFA referee for sure, I have some doubts about the other one (at least two officials should join, as Banti, Mazzoleni and Rocchi all should leave, but very likely Rocchi will be confirmed in FIFA list for at least the first 6 months of 2019).

    2. I think that we may have Massa's debut on CL around MD5-6. What do you think, Chefren?

      Delete
    3. That's the only option "after" Rocchi and Orsato, but if you ask me for Massa it would be still too early, he has been promoted recently and he should at first develop as Category 1... but well, it is indeed possible for sure because he is the only option for the close future now!

    1. With this set of appointments, not much can be said about CL appointments for Spanish referees. Mateu Lahoz and Gil Manzano both act as VAR, but it was their turn this MD, so a priori no relation with UCL.

  19. Brych has no game in the weekend and i think he has match on next week Tuesday or Wednesday in the Champions League.

His assistants Mark Borsch (Mainz - Augsburg; Saturday) and Stefan Lupp (Union Berlin - Duisburg, Friday) are in the weekend as fourth official in use.

    1. I see that Clatt's is doing an amazing job developing refereeing in the KSA. He's made Saudi referee's so good that they don't even officiate matches in their very own league.

Keep raking in that money Clatt's while effectively ruining the morale of each and every Saudi referee.

  27. Very nervous moments in Sociedad -Barca match, good thing Spain brought in VAR.

  28. Good first half by Del Cerro Grande, overall controlled, a YC for SPA and 2 rejected penalty appeals from Barcelona, supported by VAR.

Anyway, too lenient with dissent (Luis Suárez, as usual...)

    1. Very lenient approach from him,Illaramendi should have been sent off for atleast one of his fouls in 2nd half.
Suarez and especially Messi complained too much in 2nd half, always asking for fouls and cards.
I'm not a fan of his style, but for sure he is top 5 in Spain.

  29. Interesting offside incident (deliberate play v deflection) from Polish 2nd tier

    1. I'll say deliberate, he could just keep running instead of putting leg and pulled ball to the player that scored..

      Delete
    2. Well, deflection for me, but I can see arguments for both. :)

      Delete
    3. Grey area for me and I can accept both interpretations, because one can't be sure about the fact that defender could have removed his leg before the contact with ball. One can have at the same time the impression of a deflection and also a deliberate play (if he was able to remove the foot before the touch). However, I think that assessing it as deliberate play and therefore NO OFFSIDE is too penalizing for defender's action.

    1. Hey, they use new nike kits from start of new season.

    2. No, they don't. The KNVB had a delivery problem. Which gave the situation that a lot of amateur referees (excluding me, I think they are terrible) already had the kits, while the pro's did not.
