  1. Big test for Artur Soares Dias on Hugh Dallas' radar and potentially hot game for Tobias Stieler.

    1. Indeed very important test for Soares Dias.
Commenting also on Sidiropoulos appointment, we can say that committee is following a different policy in making appointments for qualifers. Some referees who were not so much used in KO stage for some reasons, will have their chance.
I hope that the Portuguese can convince because we need other solid options among Elite referees. So far, he is still "under observation", before getting something more important.

  2. Also good appointments for Turpin and Buquet I would say.

    1. Regarding Turpin, I would say that any weaker game would be rather disappointing for someone with good chances for a CL SF this year.

  4. Highights of Marco Guida's performance in Milan - Inter

    1. I think that it was a very good performance in a very difficult game, especially the last minutes. I disagree with Calvarese who invited Guida to rewatch the RC for SFP: it was in my opinion at least a supportable choice, especially if watched in real pace.
The only really evident mistake was a phantom handball whistled against Milan during an attack, close to penalty area.
Some people did not agree with the confirmation of 2-3, due to the offside position, but Milan player did not influence the defender, so correcy by Passeri and VAR.
The rest was very good also in terms of personality and match control.
What do you think about RC?

      Delete
    2. Indeed, a very good performance. Let me say, it's the first time I saw potential in Marco Guida. Well, I don't watch Serie A very often but always deemed Guida as rather poor manager and lacking in soft skills. In this game he proved me wrong!

I agree with the non-offside decision. Piątek didn't impact the defender, was two metres behind him. On one replay it looks like he challenges the defender but other replays shows it wasn't the case.

Regarding the RC changed to YC after an OFR, I believe the crucial thing was a perception mistake. Guida was convinced Conti attacked an opponent with the high leg, showing studs that wasn't the case as Conti committed a foul by the leg sliding on the ground. Then, the invite for OFR was in line with VAR protocol. Then, it was Guida who decided that the contact made by the leg sliding on the ground was only reckless. And here one can disagree (attack on standing leg, serious injury possible v not so dangerous sliding leg position).

  5. The Football Association of the Czech Republic decided that, due to mistakes, Zbyněk Proske (FIFA, Third Category) and Pavel Julínek (non-FIFA) will handle only youth competitions till the end of the season.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Proske attended last UEFA U17 EURO. He was involved in that controversial 2nd YC + RC for Irish goalie for (non-existant, IMO) encroachment in the decisive penalty kick. He wasn't promoted to 2nd Category after that (even though the critical decision was made by AR)

      Delete
    2. Well, the Referee Commision of the Czech Football Association is going to eliminate some referees from the referee list for professional competitions after this season. Maybe it would be too cruel for Zbyněk Proske, but I think he is one of them. And of course in this case he will be replaced with somebody younger in UEFA list.

    0:21 What's your decision?
    It's like Kimpembe's handball.

    Replies
    1. Supportable if you whistle it, but for me rather not punishable. The thing that makes the touch more evident to the eyes of referee is just the movement, and the hball hits exactly the arm in an unlucky circumstance. I think that Kimpembe handball was a bit more blatant, even different in terms of perception by referee.

I couldn't find another full match record of the Cyprus - San Marino game and having deleted my files, the best I can provide is a link to both penalty situations

1:10 Penalty awarded for handball, YC for SPA
    2:05 Penalty awarded for tripping

  10. Not very convincing first half by Ruddy Buquet (France) in Bulgaria vs. Montenegro. Solid fitness condition, positioning and communication.

3' = Missed verbal warning imo for a counter stop.

8' = Good no penalty call. Hand was not touched only shoulder/head.

25' = Two yellow cards against MNE (Bečiraj and Simič) for dissent after he not whistled a free kick.

28' = Imo a missed yellow card (MNE) for a reckless tackle (with both legs ahead).

34' = Yellow card Popov (Bulgaria) because of a wiper in his face

Towards the end of the first half there were two controversial decisions by both assistants. Not clearly recognizable.

  11. ISRAEL - SLOVENIA, Tiago Bruno Lopes Martins

8' Standing Leg Tackle, offender warned by the referee
    https://streamable.com/61wce

18' No caution after this reckless tackle, where earlier foul did not 'force' him into the tackle (ie. he was not pushed, he jumped himself).
    https://streamable.com/hhite

28' YC for SPA / Lack of Respect
    https://streamable.com/g8ckn

33' Reckless or Serious Foul Play? No card was issued
    https://streamable.com/0rfq1

37' 2nd YC for reckless tackle?
    https://streamable.com/w6y7t

    44' Penalty for handball?
    https://streamable.com/52bs8

48' Goal correctly awarded after the in-box duel was assessed as fair
    https://streamable.com/v7xy1

50' YC for Unsporting Behaviour, for me this is a clear Violent Conduct as the action was only targeted at hurting his opponent
    https://streamable.com/51fss

86' YC for SPA / Lack of Respect
    https://streamable.com/6ue5y

87' YC issued rather for balancing as tackle seemed neither reckless nor SPA
    https://streamable.com/8oxok

Besides crucial decisions, Tiago Martins failed to 'take charge' of this match; no convincing performance.

Foul outside the box ,he shows to the penalty spot and Bulgaria scores.

    1. Agreed, seems like a crucial and quite blatant mistake to me.

    2. What an irony that with Additional Assistant Referees I'm certain that this situation would have been solved correctly...

    3. Ruddy Buquet and his assistent((( Very big remark!!!((( It is unallowable...

  13. Crucial mistake by Buquet which directly influenced the score and very important points in this game. Penalty for Bulgaria was at least meter outside

    3. Please have a look at the replays. Clearly outside, huge mistake by both Buquet and the AR.

      Delete
    4. His biggest issue there is angle. This is a situation where the referee needs to be closer to that side of the penalty area to be looking down that line of the PA.

      Here's the clip btw:

      https://streamable.com/qfe7y

      Delete
    5. Agree with this angle. But this is system madness. How it’s Possible to ref all the time with technology and additionnal refs and suddenly became again in prehistory system. Agree with the mistake with these replays. But not huge mistake. Just false perception. Humain being. Marciniak’s Pk with VAR support is a big one. Not this one.

      Delete
    6. That is a joke penalty and nowhere near the line. Big mistake. Where was the AR? Was it on AR's side? If so, big mistake by him as well.

      Delete
    7. Well, that's for sure a joke. This is exactly stuff for AAR, this would have happened right in front of him...
However, let's hope that UEFA will introduce VAR in all competitions, including qualifiers. You can't blame referee for that, still a very clear mistake, but from his position it was difficult to have clear ideas.

      Delete
    8. Sorry but you think with lot of replays. With oneside perception, it’s more difficult and difficult for assistant referee to assess clearly the situation involved. Joke penalty here ? So polish one was a scandal, isn’t it?

      Delete
    9. I can understand that maybe Buquet had a bad angle but it was right in front of AR and 4th official, i am sure, had a good perception of the location from his position.

      Delete
    10. Sorry Filip. PK in front of 4th ref ?! And AR is a bit far and also perhaps saw player fell into the line. Clear mistake. But understandable as Chefren said. Sorry for Montenegro.

      Delete
    11. I've had a look at it and this is just poor positioning from the referee and I'm sorry but this isn't a VAR issue. Even at the basic amateur level that I referee at we are taught that you need to drift across to that line of the penalty area so you can see if the foul occurred inside or out.

      Delete
  14. Agree with Chefren here. Please think to conduct your car all time with assisted direction and suddenly no help. That’s exactly the problem...

  16. Any interesting comment from 1st halves?

    1. Soares Dias with a good first half in England Czech Republic, gets the penalty correct IMO right at the end of the half, however AR1 missed a marginal offside in the lead up to the first gaol

      Delete
    2. Solid first half by Schärer, very fit referee. Two YCs for the physical homeside, two penalty appeals turned down.

      Delete
    3. Also a solid second half by Schärer?

      Delete
    4. Yes. Good communication, very alert, correct cautions. Very well done.

      Delete
    5. No problems for Soares Dias in the 2nd half either, 2 correct YCs and penalty overall, just unfortunate that AR1 missed the marginal offside for the first goal.

      Delete
    6. Thank you, Howard. That is nice to hear. I think he could become a good european referee. He also did a good job in the highest national game in Switzerland last sunday.

  17. 90'+2 crucial situation in POR - UKR, a penalty appeal by Portugal.
Turpin was convinced about play on, penalty could have been whistled.
However, I think no VAR stuff so no clear and obvious mistake.

    1. Not enough for me to whistle. And portuguese player added a lot of drama in this action. Supportable call for sure.

For me never a penalty. Sterling clearly throws himself into 2 players, no ball control, nothing.

I doubted thus but decided to give it a try they responded with their guidelines on how the card works. I was assured that the card can withdraw $500 instant per day & was credited with $50,000.00 so i requested for one & paid the delivery fee to obtain the card, after 3 working days , i was shock to see the UPS agent in my resident with a parcel{card} i signed and went back inside and confirmed the card work's after the agent left.
