  1. So it seems as UEFA has finally ended the experience with additional assistant referees. Step by step, I think VAR will be used in almost all European games...

  2. Once again a great appointment for Hategan.

Also it's refreshing to see some names from 2nd group.

    1. And an equally good appointment for Sidiropoulos (in spite of his EL R16 match).
In general, the group G appointments are interesting: I would rather have expected a First group referee in Israel and a Second group referee in North Macedonia. Maybe Tiago Martins is considered for promotion?

    2. I am almost certain that all the appointments were made well in advance. So Sidiropoulos would get a match despite both his crucial mistakes. But I have a feeling that this match is like a test for him.

  4. OT : French Coupe de la Ligue Final (30th March, 21:05CET)

RC STRASBOURG ALSACE - EA GUINGAMP

    Referee : Benoît Millot (FIFA - 2nd)
Assistant Referees : Stéphan Luzi - Aurélien Drouet
    4th official : Johan Hamel
    VAR : Jérôme Brisard (FIFA - 2nd)
AVAR : Hakim Ben El Hadj

Expected (PSG absent from the final) and deserved appointment for Millot.

  5. No more AARs, interesting. Always thought they were a little pointless anyways. Interesting to see how long it takes before VAR is commonplace in non-tournament international matches.

  6. Austria-Poland, reminds me of Euro 2008 with Webb's controversial (but correct) PK decision in 90+3 ;)

  7. I tend to agree with you,I also expected some bigger name in this match, but IMO Bezborodov will do fine with his experience.
I dont know how are relations between Hungary and Slovakia, are they bad or good, but what I do know is that matches against neighboors are always more electric and more intense so we can expect tough match for Russian.

  8. Bebek finally gets a match.
Would be interesting to see how he performs.

  9. Highlights of the Dunajská Streda - Slovan Bratislava game that Márk mentioned handled by Filip Glova which generated a lot of medial controversy.

  10. Very good half by Srđan Jovanović in Kazakhstan vs. Scotland. One yellow card to KAZ (4 fouls committed). Strong personality, perfect body language, clear gestures and solid communication.
    Well done so far!

  11. Another solid half performce by Jovanović! Some minor mistakes in foul detection but an excellent card management: 83' SCO and 90+5' KAZ.
A possible missed penalty in 51' for Scotland but the camera angles were very bad, so no clear and obvious mistake.
    Well done!!!!

  12. Now watching Cyprus against San Marino with referee Juri Frischer from Estland.

Minute 18' = Correct penalty imo for deliberate handball and yellow card for Simoncici (San Marino)

Minute 20' = Yellow card for Giardi (San Marino) but poor advantage given!

Minute 21' = Yellow card for Gulinucci (San Marino).Confusion about the right player!

Minute 23' = Another correct penalty imo for a foulplay (With some delay, maybe AR advice?)

    1. 1st penalty correct, no doubt. 2nd seemed a bit soft, but no replay was really convincing.

About the YCs, I have to check the replays. One of them was given for SPA, the other one I'm not sure what it was for or if he booked the wrong player and changed his decision.

Seems very alert though, promising performance so far.

    2. Yellow card 18' for No. 6 (Simoncini, San Marino) for the handball in the penalty area.

Yellow card 21' for No.21 (Golinucci, San Marino) for SPA.

No.20 was accidentally warned. However, the UEFA has registered no.20 in the game report as a warning.

    3. Looked at it again and it seems like he correctly books #21 for the foul and several seconds later #10. The player in question did dissent, but nothing that seemed YC-worthy. Did Frischer think he carded the wrong player and made a mistake afterwards? Let's see if the UEFA will update its website later on.

    4. The yellow card for No.20 has been canceled in the offical match report by the UEFA.

  13. Juri Frischer (Estland) with a solid performance in Cyprus vs. San Marino. Adequate card management but sometimes poor advantage given. Unspectacular and solid!

  14. Bebek with a maybe missed booking and correct penalty rejected so far.

So far he is leting the game go and looking to keep cards in his pocket, lot of talking from him which is rare in his matches.

There, while I was writting this 1st card we saw for SPA.

  15. Hațegan with a correct penalty, another very solid first half from Romanian crew...

  16. Quiet first half for Sidiropoulos.

  17. Georgi Kabakov from Bulgaria with an expected first half in Croatia vs. Azerbaijan. His fitness conditions are excellent, good positing and advantage given.

13' Excellent onside by AR1 for a chance Azerbaijan

At 17' his AR2 signaled a foul (raised his flag) and Kabakov signaled a indirect free kick. A bit confusion there..

19' Goal for Azerbaijan = Played the ball, no foul

34' Maybe missed penalty for Croatia but imo correct to play on (soft contact)

40' Wrong offside call by AR1

    ReplyDelete
  18. 63' Missed penalty by Kabakov for Croatia (clear holding)

68' Correct first yellow card of the game for AZB

  19. Sidiropoulos terrible again.
Maybe shouldn't get any international games in the near future

    1. I wouldn't call his performance 'terrible'. One or two dubious free kicks and most likely a missed penalty in favour of Austria. The rest is on good, expected level.

    2. Not a 100% clear penalty in the meaning of possible crucial mistake, referee had some reasons to play on, however I think in this case the expected choice is penalty.

  20. Excellent teamwork in Belgium-Russia with Golovin's 2YC. Hategan whistled the foul, but I think was unable to spot the kick. I think he was in communication with his fourth official, since it took a moment before he issued the 2YC.

Great times for the Romanian referee...

  21. Satisfied performance from Bebek tonight.
More lenient than usual, lot of talking and maybe one missed booking in 1st half, but overall his cucial decisions were correct-penalty in 75',rejected penalty in 1st half, overall good performance from Bebek.

    1. Not a YC there for the foul leading to penalty? This is more than reckless.

      Delete
    2. Yep,thats what I forgot to mention.

Looks like he decided to not show yc's as much as he can,but this and the one in 1st half were missed.

  22. Overall a solid performence by Kabakov. All yellow cards were fully correct, fitness was excellent but a missed penalty for Croatia. Sometimes no clear body language.

    1. Imagine my shock when I look at the video just now at school of Frischer's match, to see that it has gone psychedelic. It was fine when I cut it this morning, at least so I thought.

Hopefully there will be a fixed version by the early afternoon. Also this seems a good moment to also thank Howard Maxi, the highlights would not be possible without him (I hope that people appreciate them)!
