    1. Too many debuts during Rosetti cadence)))

      Delete
    2. I fully agree with Rosetti and his policy to push new referees in the "arena". Uefa needs new generation referees and must be ready to prepare the official of future. Don't forget that just two years ago, Collina didn't have any referee for CL and EL Semifinals and for EL final match and came back to Kuipers

  2. Alejandro José Hernández Hernández VAR tomorrow and referee on Thursday.

  3. Is Kassai still injuried or completely demoted ?

    ReplyDelete
  4. What do you mean by "demoted"? Categories will be updated on December, he is still Elite referee.
He should be still injured, no games after the UEL replacement in Rangers - Feyenoord. Last game in Hungary: 14 September.

    1. When I say "demoted" I'm not talking about Uefa official categories but about trust of committee on him. I mean: "Is Kassai injured or no more considered by Rosetti and the committee after recent bad performances" ? I saw him appointed in Saudi Arabia last week end

      Delete
    2. I don't have confirmations of a Saudi appointed for him, maybe you misread something...

    3. He only acted as VAR in Saudi Arabia last week.

  8. La Liga appointments for MD 10 have been released.
    https://www.rfef.es/noticias/estas-son-designaciones-arbitrales-proximas-jornadas-primera-y-segunda
I can notice that, differently from the past and some years ago, RFEF-CTA has changed the policy about appointments. I remember that in past indeed they announced also referees for postponed games, even in case of very delayed games. Now they act in different way and they release appointments on the same week of the matches. We can remember until two seasons ago, appointments for matchdays were released two weeks before. There is something new there.
Having said that, making speculation, I think Hernandez Hernandez could have got El Clasico, indeed he has been assigned with the second most interesting games, Atlético - Athletic.
However, CTA still continues in appointing referees without looking at international assignments: for the Canarian a very important game in La Liga 48 hours after EL debut, it is not a good choice if you ask me.

  9. LIGUE 1 CONFORAMA - MATCHDAY 11

    Friday (25.10)
Nantes - Monaco, 20:45 CET, referee: Thomas Leonard (VAR: Ruddy Buquet, UEFA Cat. 1)

    Saturday (26.10)
Lille - Bordeaux, 17:30 CET, referee: Willy Delajod (VAR: Ruddy Buquet, UEFA Cat. 1)
Strasbourg - Nice, 20:00 CET, referee: Mikael Lesage (VAR: Stéphanie Frappart, UEFA Elite Cat. Women)
Brest - Dijon, 20:00 CET, referee: Jérémie Pignard (VAR: Florent Batta)
Lyon - Metz, 20:00 CET, referee: Johan Hamel (VAR: François Letexier, UEFA Cat. 1)
Reims - Nîmes, 20:00 CET, referee: Clément Turpin, UEFA Elite Cat. (VAR: Jérôme Miguelgorry)
Montpellier - Angers, 20:00 CET, referee: Benoît Millot, UEFA Cat. 2 (VAR: Jérémy Stinat)

    Sunday (27.10)
Rennes - Toulouse, 15:00 CET, referee: Antony Gautier (VAR: Alexandre Castro)
Saint-Etienne - Amiens, 17:00 CET, referee: Amaury Delerue, UEFA Cat. 2 (VAR: Jérôme Miguelgorry)
Paris - Marseille, 21:00 CET, referee: Benoît Bastien, UEFA Elite Cat. (VAR: Jérôme Brisard, UEFA Cat. 2)

The biggest match, the French "Classique" between Paris and Marseille goes (again) to Bastien. Turpin rather with an uninteresting game. Hamel also with an important game between Lyon and Metz, especially because Lyon is surprisingly weak this season. Also another impressive match for Willy Delajod, who will enter FIFA list in January. Deserved appointment for the young French, I think he's a very promising referee who has the capacities to reach Elite. Possibly the greatest talent in recent years in French refereeing.

  13. I dont know what I can said about Rosetti in Eintrach match for 4th referee. Damian Sylwestrzak is a referee who doesnt be referee in ekstraklasa and 1.Liga it is decesion very controversial so it will be very big problem When Stefanski will be injured, Bartosz Frankowski is free, he should be!

  19. Very sad news - John Fleming, head of refereeing for the Scottish Football Association, has died aged sixty-two after a prolonged illness.

He worked in Leslie Mottram's refereeing trio at UEFA EURO 1996 as a 'linesman', and led the refereeing department in Scotland for eight years.

Rod Petrie, Scottish FA President said, “John was a private man and many people will be shocked to learn of his passing after an illness borne with fortitude. His commitment was unstinting to the game, his refereeing colleagues and the association.

“He worked tirelessly in support of his match officials, whom he considered an extended family. He undertook his responsibilities as Head of Referee Operations with passion and integrity, qualities that met with respect across the game: in boardrooms, in dressing rooms and, of course, in referees’ rooms.

“John was a dedicated family man and suffered the loss of his wife Ann with the love of his children Dawn and Graham, and of course his grandchildren Anna, Charlie and Rose, on whom he doted. Our thoughts are with his family.

“I know I speak on behalf of the board, John’s friends and colleagues within the Scottish FA, the referee community and clubs across the country in saying that we will miss a trusted colleague, a man of honour and principle, and a dear friend.”

Law 5 Blog would like to extend its deep sympathies to John's family and friends as well as the wider refereeing community in Scotland.

    Rest in Peace

  23. Wow 2 penalties whistled by Kehlet in Berne in favour of the home team in the first 30 minutes:
First one very clear, defender put his arms up like a goalkeeper after a deflected cross and there were not even any protests by the Dutch.
Second one put out more emotions and a YC for the goalkeeper for protesting (I think so because there are no other reasons for a YC), It was a typical situation where the striker touched the ball first and is caught by Goalkeeper‘s hand afterwards. However this striker rather moved into the goalie because he literally wanted to be fouled. Because there is a contact the penalty is supportable to me and kind of expected by the fans but I would have preferred a no call

    2. Well,
The hand is may 2 inches higher than the shoulder, moreover it's a short distance and the arm isn't in an unnatural position.
But the arm isn't close neither.
Difficult assessment to be honest. IMO no penalty

      Delete
    3. I also thought it was a PK but if you watch closely, if you just watch the direction of the ball, you can see that the ball touches defender's head and changes the direction.
      So, no penalty.

Direction of the ball is: Attacker-Defender-Defender's arm

    2. You are wrong, he attended EURO 2016.
However, I think he was very lucky to be confirmed for a so long time in Elite Category. He never made a real step. Another referee would have received a different treatment.
I don't want to be harsh, but I always expected something more in all these years. He didn't manage that and most of the times he committed many crucial mistakes. He is not at the same level of other Elite referees, if you ask me, but surely better than other ones (I wont mention them).
He was already in the spotlight with Italian teams when he had a controversial Fenerbahçe - Lazio back in 2013, now after this performance I think he wont officiate again Italian teams for a long time.
His participation to EURO 2020 is in danger, he should show more skills to reach that.

    3. True, forgot this one, but I guess this participation was more related to the increased size of teams than his skills

  30. Partizan Belgrade - Manchester United (if someone would like to cut videos)

04', 24', 39' - three cases of illegal use of arms (two play-on calls and one FK-only call)
29' - advantage, should a YC have been given in the next stoppage?
31' - correctly rejected Partizan's penalty appeal, no handball at all
42' - correct penalty for careless trip in favour of Manchester Utd
49' - correctly rejected Partizan's penalty appeal, easy fall without a clear reason
66' - rejected Partizan's handball penalty appeal, no replay, YC for dissent
67' - rejected Partizan's handball penalty appeal, should've been a penalty imo (blocking a shot, unnatural hand position), YC for dissent
71', 77' - another two cases of dissenting behaviour, no reaction
76' - missed YC to Partizan player for reckless stamp
86' - correct YC to Zdjelar (PAR) for SPA by trip

    2. Not even the only mistake by the whole team.
In 1H a huge scoring opportunity was in a tight but quite easy to detect offside.
YC to Kluivert is as phantom as the penalty.
Two tight offsides were missed and led to other opportunities for Roma.
The penalty is just the cherry on very bad cake

    1. It's supportable either way I think as a no-call or call, I err towards it being more of a foul than not a foul but understand why he's not given it.

Would say he's missed at least one SPA caution for Eindhoven second half though for an attack out wide. All issued cautions spot on though.

  36. Also, possible penalty in Stefanski game, rather penalty than play on, if not even clear penalty. The Polish didn't want to whistle, maybe he assessed attacker exaggerated the contact.

To be clear: This is about the AFC Champions League Final.
Faghani already had a SF 2nd leg, confirming he is AFC's clear number one.
Ali Sabah is a rather new name, although already on the FIFA list since 2002. But this year was his first Asian Cup, and his CL debut was in 2016.

  41. Interesting situation in Trabzon, correct decision by Lechner to show YC after an attempt to make a deliberate handball save by a player on the line. Then goal was scored and so he was "only" booked, good advantage, however, referee had not even the time to whistle before that :)

  42. Eskov with a second RC for DOGSO, to be checked whether inside or outside, not clear, referee assessed outside the box.

39' yellow you should be able to solve verbally.
The heat before the half-time whistle was due to badly judged elbows of getafe which weren't punished at all.
      56' yellow to soft

  53. Watching the Celtic game live I thought it was just a YC but the first replay showed it was clearly a RC, studs right into the player's leg. Surprised the 4th official didn't help Bebek out with that one. Another example of VAR being required!

There was also a YC given to a Lazio player at 87 minutes, which looked close to SFP - sliding in on the ground with two feet, worth trying to find a replay of that.

    1. 87'- I find YC still a supportable choice, the player who commits the foul doesn't stretch his legs and the contact is very low.

  54. Slovan Bratislava 1-2 Wolverhampton (Yevhen Aranovskyy (UKR)): 63' - very harsh penalty to Wolverhampton. IMO even mistake but maybe not clear and obvious enough for VAR to intervene in case there was one. For me the upper body contact is not enough and I see no contact with legs. Your thoughts?

The way Premier League uses VAR is just so ridiculous that there haven't been any OFRs yet. If you say there are no OFRs in the PL, why are there RRAs and monitors in all stadiums (https://ibb.co/KLr0wyj)? Again, here's an official source if you don't believe me: https://www.premierleague.com/news/1297393 .
