  1. Taylor's appointment means that he is #1 in England now ?
Any thoughts from english press about yesterday's Oliver's performance?

    2. Yes. According to UEFA, Taylor has been best ref of England for 1 years.

    3. I don't disagree, but I also would not be surprised, if Oliver gets an equally important match during the next days.

  2. Why BUQUET PORTUGAL-LITHUANIA ?? Why MAZEIKA FRANCE-MOLDOVA ??

    Waste of TALENT !!

Bad ROSETTI ! Should train younger REFEREES in NOTHING games !!

    1. After braga-bjk game, Mazieka dont deserve any game for a while. He want to be hero, but this is not easy so.

    2. Portugal must win to be able to qualify on their own. Also France is not yet qualified. Therefore these are important matches and the appointments are justified IMO.

What I don't understand is, that ALB-AND needs a First Group referee.

    3. I disagree that Mažeika wanted to "be a hero". He simply took an educated guess that the tackle by BES No.27 was a studs-on-shin episode which would have been logical, looking from his (zero) insight angle; he was wrong. Only AR1/4th could have intervened, but it would have been very brave to shout down the micro to only give a YC, especially as they were far away and likely saw the same force of tackle as Mažeika did.

I agree with all choices by UEFA this time - no risks taken. Tohver made a big mess of the Slovan vs. Beşiktaş game (he missed MD 3/4 for that), so together with Andorra playing a good qualification (first win now, nearly drew in Turkey, much closer results generally) and combustible Albania that would be easily irritated by persistent Andorra fouling as we know they play, could lead to a not easy-going game - in the end Tohver is a sensible choice IMO.

    1. It is a decisive game for direct qualification...

    2. First leg: Kosovo - Czech Republic 2-1, referee Danny Makkelie.
This says everything, appointment is fully justified.

      Delete
    3. Indeed, most important game on Thursday by the group situations.

      Delete
    4. CZE is 2nd with 12 points, KOS is 3rd with 11 points.

Indeed a decisive game, most sonorous clash, probably the last of Rocchi's international career.

    6. @Matio

      How old are you ?

Czech Republic- Kosovo is the most important game in this round. It's a derby for the 2nd place, which means (direct) qualification for EURO 2020.

This game is important not only for Czech Republic and Kosovo. It's important also for Romania. Why ? If Kosovo won't qualify directly for the EURO 2020 than Romania will reach the last place in Nations League play-offs in march 2020.

    7. Mr Chefren,

With all my respect , Do you really think that after Rocchi CL game , Czech-Kosovo appointment is justified for him? Can we say “ he forgot his last game”? I dont think that.

I hope he does well at this big and important game.

  4. I didn't expect Mateu Lahoz in ENG-MNE, I expected a low-profile Elite/experienced First referee. England is almost qualified, plays at home and Montenegro has 'nothing' to play for anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Very good appointment for Taylor, Rocchi is an expected choice for CZE - KVX and Mateu Lahoz at Wembley makes it clear that UEFA is aware of the history of the two teams and wants to take no chances.

POR - LTU and SRB - LUX are both rather clear match-ups, but it seems UEFA wants to make sure since both aren't qualified and are theoretically contenders. Especially Gözübüyük could feel a bit underwhelmed though, with Serbia being virtually out.

Tohver could do better than ALB - AND, but I believe the game could still be a challenging one. Hard to say if a France match is a reward or a punishment for Mažeika.

    1. In any case, I'm quite sure these appointments were made before the games of CL and EL MD4, so only in case of very poor performance a change would have been possible. We can't judge so much there, even regarding Mazeika...

  6. From serie A game Sampdoria - Atalanta.
Many protests by Atalanta for a possible RC for DOGSO (no VAR intervention).
    What do you think?

    2. IMO clear DOGSO and red card missed here. VAR must intervene here...

      Delete
    3. RC also for me. If he was not held, he was in possession of the ball and the other defenders are too far.

      Delete
    4. Clear red for DOGSO. Referee was very far away from the incident due to goalkeeper kicking the ball so would not have had the best view. VAR must intervene.

      Delete
    5. 100% DOGSO! Clear red card. I agree with Jackson here, Irrati was far away from the action, so he did not have the best perception of the incident, which would even more justify a VAR intervention here.

    6. DOGSO and VAR material also in my opinion

    7. Clear Dogso and VAR has to interfere on this situation.

  10. Today I was a bit disappointed about the performance by Anthony Taylor in Turkey-Iceland.Every decision correct, justified YCs and correct personal sanctions against team officals like Turkish manager Güneş with YC and another Turkish team offical with a straight RC.

But I thought to see a fully motivated, passionated and active referee with dynamic sprints etc.Taylor was IMHO sometimes more reacting like preventing or acting.Body language was normal good and his communication is excellent but it is nothing extraordinary.
No dynamic sprints for showing cards or something else.
Sometimes very delayed whistle,to be honest I prefere the fast and acitve approach by Mateu Lahoz.

Overall of course a good to very good performance because all (technical) decisions were fully correct evaluated but he can improve his active and dynmaic/motivated approach, which is especially in big matches the right solution.

    1. I agree with your description of a generally good performance.

I believe he missed a Red Card for Violent Conduct at 67' for TUR No.17 and will need to seriously rewatch the ISL penalty appeal for holding at 90'.

Of course you can prefer Mateu's approach but I don't think observing someone is "not Mateu" can form a criticism. Taylor was proactive in this match, especially eg. against dissent and never lost the overview.

I don't have an interest in defending any referee from one or the other person's views, but I don't think you should take such a prescriptivist approach to styles.

      Delete
    2. I agree completely with you!

I didn't want to critisme Anthony Taylor for not use Mateu approach or styles :)

I only wanted to compare a top UEFA Elite ref with a other top UEFA Elite ref and I only wanted to say that I like Mateu's proactive style.

And I agree that Taylor was very good today and active against dissent with excellent facial expressions. There was no second in the match were he lost control.

But I personally thought that he was sometimes too passive in foul detecion.

    3. It is looking to me you missed the first half.
In the beginning I saw him like the angry father who will not accept any explanation from his son supported by his active gestures, probably that's why looked lenient later.
At the 14' he addressed wrong goal kick for Turkey and in 30' he missed holding.
I will be grateful if someone post a replay for the 33' minute situation in the box.
Think, I have the same feeling for Taylor, but with that difference he looked to me too struggling with the pressure and for that reason a bit distracted at the beginning, but later managed to be better.

  11. 13 minutes and two wrong GK by Mazeika against France. So two corners clearly forgotten...not a good start...

    ReplyDelete
  12. Very good play on by Rocchi for a Czechia penalty appeal at 10' - attacker was only interested for the body contact from behind in order to be "fouled"

  13. England - Montenegro looks like a training for Mateu...

  14. 36' : OMG please see France 1-1...Obvious foul on moldovan goalkeeper (Giroud's clear contact with legs). This referee isn't at level...

  15. Very crucial minutes in Plzen, it seems as Rocchi disallowed a goal scored by Czech Republic for a foul on keeper, but I assume late decision because all sites had reported 1-1.

    1. My opinion.
33'- nothing wrong, a contact inside the box but not worthy of a PK.
67'- I don't think that was a VC. I would have liked a more 'proactive' management (e.g. a public warning), he was a bit too passive.
90'- For me that is indeed a penalty. The ICE player can't reach the ball in any way I think, but the holding is quite clear.

      Delete
    2. For me 67' is a yellow card not a red. Mistake to not show any card at all. Definite penalty at 90' as well.

      Delete
    3. 33' - I don't think there is enough data (did the holding impact attackers jump? was the fall afterwards exaggerated?) to make a decision on that evidence.

67' - Violent Conduct, while not fighting for the ball or even position TUR No.17 strikes his opponent in the face. Very similar to the excellent RC that Taylor showed in the Sevilla - Lazio game last season. It's hard to understand how Taylor and especially Attwell missed that - 4th looked proactive in that scene. I guess he missed the upwards movement and only saw the downwards one - bad luck, but also a bad miss.

82' - If we are talking about tight goal / no goal situations this was not a close one; but in lieu of English ARs having had GLT week-to-week for six years, good decision by Nunn.

90' - Clear holding. Taylor should more clearly distribute responsibilities; Beswick / Attwell has to communicate that foul to him, and between them one of them that duel should have been in one of their visual controls.

Shame on the host broadcast for a (suspicious...) lack of replays.

6' correct penalty to Portugal (clear foul on Cristiano Ronaldo).

  20. Most interesting situation from Czech Republic - Kosovo:
    https://streamable.com/zchb9
In my opinion no foul by attacker on keeper, what you can say "against" attacker, is the same for keeper, both went for the ball and then just a collision, no major responsibility for one of them... the problem in such situations is to find courage to decide against keeper when he is injured, definitely not easy. Luckily, situation was not important for the final score.
