  1. Really happy for viktor kassai after a long absence from uefa games...

  2. It seems confirmed that committee doesn't want to take any risk and teams that can qualify, even in case of "easy games" on paper, get mostly Elite referees. Since this is possible, I like this decision. We have Bastien in Finland, as example.
We saw some surprising results on recent matchdays...
Orsato with a big assignment, to follow Makkelie, Switzerland must win against Georgia, but maybe it will be not so easy.
Welcome back to Kassai. For sure he will get a game in European cups on MD5 / 6. It will be interesting to see whether committee will select him for EURO. Based on recent activity, it is impossible to make any judgment there, very particular situation for the Hungarian.

    1. Yep, but it's interesting that we have an Elite in Finland (Bastien) and a First in Denmark (Vad). Both referees handle a match of "nations who plays at home versus a weak team from
a microstate needs to win in order to go to EURO".

Happy for Kassai return. Also an interesting match for observing Schärer's evolution despite not being a Euro spot at stake.

    2. But then it is not consistent to send a Second Group referee to Norway, which still have a small chance to qualify as well.

And I also don't understand Kassai's appointment in a nothing match. He certainly could have been appointed to a match with at least something to play for.

BIH has a small chance to qualify, therefore there is something at stake in Schärer's match.

  6. Copa Libertadores final
River Plate (ARG) - Flamengo (BRA):
Roberto Tobar, Christian Schiemann, Claudio Rios (all CHI), Anders Rojas (COL) - Diego Haro (PER), Piero Maza (CHI), Alexander Guzman (COL), Esteban Ostojich (URU)

Tobar also had last year's final first leg (this year only one game is played).

    1. Rather predictable appointment considering that all Argentinian and Brazilian are out. Alternatives would have been Diego Haro (although attending U17 WC until next week) and Wilmar Roldan.

However, I wonder why Julio Bascunan has been kept so distant from big appointments in the past years

    1. 1) I have to admit that very often I don't consider this as criterion, but in this case it is different. I think that the contact is only bad luck and rather "caused" by the player who goes in opponent's path. Impossible to give big responsibility to the player from Dortmund he went for the ball without any awareness. It is different from a situation in which a player tries a challenge and he sees that opponent is there.

      2) Well, it seems as Blom was busy with a substitution, othwerwise I'm sure he would have managed better this situation, reproaching the coach.

    2. Mr Chefren,

For the first comment ; Is that criterion “ to touch ball before making serious faul play” ? Or not.

For your second comment I thoroughly with you.

      Delete
    3. 1) In my opinion, the cleanest LotG argument, why this is not SFP, is that is not a tackle or a challenge, but a pass.
So "A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play." already fails in the first four words.

      2) If it's the first time, a warning could be sufficient ("entering the field of play in a respectful/non-confrontational manner"), but a YC is also possible ("clearly not respecting the confines of their team’s technical area").

  9. I think Raczkowski has better match and more important than Bastien, What s happend? It looks as 1st >Elite

    1. Bastien handled Armenia - Bosnia so impossible for him to be in Erevan.

      Delete
    2. I know it, but he is in elite and in my opinion he has match which is not for elite This match Finland- Liechtenstein can be for 1st or 2nd, I think it’s consequnce his earlier mistakes

      Delete
    3. Why do you say Raczkowski's match is better than Bastien's?

Greece is already eliminated and Armenia almost virtually too, while a Finnish victory on Friday(OK, against Liechtenstein, a microstate NT that somehow has managed to draw twice against both Greece and Armenia) would give them their first ticket for UEFA EURO ever.

      Delete
    4. Did you see a situation in group ? Second team will play with the worst team in group, I know that this is match for Euro but not big, and no for referee who is in elite, earlier match in Liechstein referee was J.maee he is in second category. I think Armenia-Greece will be hotter and more interesting

  10. I think wrong YC for simulation inside the penalty area by razckowski. if not penalty, I think play on would be the better option.

  11. very interesting moment at 22min match between ARMENIA GREECE. i think simulation wouldn,t have been given in neither case

  16. Some situations from a couple of interesting games from Asia, on the road to Qatar 2022.

UZBEKISTAN - SAUDI ARABIA, Ryuji Sato (JPN)

=> 22' Penalty (holding); SPA vs. DOGSO [no card given]?

    => 55' Penalty (handling)

    => 61' Penalty (handling)?
    https://youtu.be/CImLDFPpCIA?t=5861

IRAQ - IRAN, Hettikamkanamge Dilan Perera (SRI)

    => 60' Penalty (tripping)?
    https://youtu.be/U2PvXkVtRJc?t=4883

    => 81' 2nd Yellow Card IRN No.7 (reckless play)

    1. at 60' clear example of when player try to decieve referee. YC for simulation for me
as about 2nd YC its not reckless because of player has avoided contact which deserves 2nd YC. if it would have been 1st YC OK, but too strick for sending-off

      Delete
    2. The fourth official's body language after the 60' incident in the IRQ-IRN match is unnecessary, bordering on undermining the referee. He is not the referee. The referee is the referee.

Along those lines, the Iranian captain's behavior after the send off is unacceptable and must be sanctioned.

      Delete
    3. I like the way Perera dealt with both situations. For me, the 2nd yellow card can be given.

I am shocked by the behaviour of the Iran players in both situations. I am glad he has shown a YC for protesting in the first case, and to the coach. I don't like the way the fourth official handled it: way too much acting as a referee, and a bad one at that.

  17. It is reported that Kassai team made a crucial mistake by wrongly disallowing 2-0 scored by Spain for an alleged punishable offside.

  18. IMO Vad missed a straight RC for GIB #3. Player asked for a foul, Vad denied it and just after getting up the player made a chest bump to him. Vad stopped play and booked instead of sending him off.

    3. Thanks. YC is nonsense in this situation, if you think it is deliberate, it must be RC. Otherwise, nothing. YC would be for "normal protests"....

      Delete
    4. For me either red or no card but why yellow? Unsporting behaviour and therefore YC is not possible. One option is that the referee thought it was accidental (no card) or with intent which has to be a red card undoubtably.

      Delete
  19. For me missed red card for Swiss player by Makkelie. Shocking challenge with much force, studs up and directed to oppontent‘s ankle. Makkelie himself was far away but AR 1 was so close that he could have helped...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agreed he was close, unluckily rather too close I think (not his fault, just bad luck!). Still, piecing together information Diks and Makkelie should have reached a RC conclusion.

      Delete
  20. Missed RC-SFP by Makkelie in SUIGEO (74'), only YC given. It was right in front of Mario Diks but he was looking straight down at it so harder for him to perceive it well. To be honest even for the force of the tackle, besides the very dangerous hitting point, Makkelie from far away could caught how endangering the tackle was.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Exactly, even live I thought of a red card replays that showed the hitting point confirmed that.
Apart from that, easy game full under control. Excellent card management. He gave 2 clever YC in first half and then nothing happened at all which can also be seen as a ‚reward‘ for these 2 cards with perfect timing.

    2. Diffucukt to see this one. Referee far away on the left side after cross ball and then close and in front of the assistant. Almost impossible to see the point of contact for the referee, maybe the assistant could see it if he would have stepped more to the right. Bad luck for both of them.

For the first time ever, VAR was used in a CAF domestic cup. It was on 9 November in the first Moroccan Throne Cup semi-final (Difaa Hassani El-Jadidi (DHJ) - TAS Casablanca (TAS)). Referee - Samir GUEZZAZ (FIFA, 1980).There were 3 VAR reviews in that 'maiden' match:
=> ~75' Red card shown to a DHJ player after OFR. (5:39)
=> ~120+3' Penalty awarded to TAS for handball after OFR. (Initial decision - no penalty.) (9:05)
=> 120+6' Goal awarded (TAS) after VAR-only review as the ball had crossed the line. (Original decision - no goal.)(9:40)
    Video: https://youtu.be/GdIRPJSXW5o
VAR was used in the 2nd semi-final next day. Also the final on 18 November will have the system.

    1. In the 2nd semi-final (Hassania Agadir (HUSA) - Moghreb Tetouan (MAT)) there was one VAR review. Referee - AbdelAziz Lamssalek.
=> 4' HUSA is correctly ordered to retake the penalty after a VAR-only review because the GK was of the line and made a save. GK gets the 2nd YC and RC. Mass mobbing. (Video - https://youtu.be/njyQcX4nv7o?t=273.)

  23. Clear red card missed by Makkelie en his team. I try to upload the clip. Maybe somebody can help. Mikael can you help?

    Good game Kassai, Orsato.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks for the clip Marvin. I agree now that this is a red card and the assistant can be blamed for it. He is looking from a close distance. Don't understand why he judged this one wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  25. The incident from Makkelie's match.
    https://streamable.com/p57l6
IMO Makkelie is too far away from the challenge to see that it's a red card. He has to rely totally on his Assistant Referee to tell him it is excessive force and serious foul play.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In my opinion no chances to see that for Makkelie, some chances for AR1 but still difficult.
