    1. Skomina had his three regular appointments, 2 in Champions and 1 in Europa League. Then we can add that differently from other Elite referees appointed for the fourth game, he was not so good like them (that's of course only my opinion). Both in Barcelona and Leverkusen I didn't see him at the top.

      Delete
  5. Skomina had 3 matches, its normal. 2 CL and 1 EL, probably because of the wrong red card in Leverkusen....

  6. I told yesterday, it’s funny situation with Skomina and I think it is No fair for him

  7. Debut for Paul Tierney.
Big observation for Sandro Schärer with Hugh Dallas in Manchester.
Collum back after his mistake in Rome, based on this appointment, I think he will attend EURO (otherwise I would have found fair to stop him until the end of GS).
Farewell game for Blom, particular focus on Petrescu.
Treimanis recovers the absence for U17 WC in Brazil with a third appointment in Europa League, no Champions for him this season, but not for his fault.

    1. I disagree about Collum. He got a meaningless game, which will decide about nothing of importance. LASK-Sporting is also hardly a derby....

      Delete
    2. With Collina, he wouldn't have officiated again until KO stage.

  8. Pawson is FO today and then gets an EL on Thursday. Weird management.

Big match for Sánchez Martínez on his 2nd EL appointment.

Elite Referees at Group G as expected.

    1. There are also other referees appointed for both today and Thursday: Blom, Meshkov...

      Delete
    2. Tierney is also AVAR in the same game that Pawson is 4th official.

  9. Wow, what a game for Matej Jug! I really didn't expect him there, especially with Levnikov. Especially (maybe you saw a post about this somewhere :)) with Slovenians not really in favour under the current UEFA administration. I wonder if he can yet make Elite?

I am quite surprised by débuts for Tierney and Meshkov (no K. Levnikov?). Really disappointed that Mykola Balakin did not manage an EL début, especially after his very (very) good performance in the Saburtalo Tbilisi - Ararat-Armenia game in ELQR3 as well in the recent Ukrainian Classic.

Also surprising that Sánchez Martínez (form, experience) and Siebert (quality) got so important games as they have. UEFA taking zero chances in Glasgow by appointing Brych, a bit riskier appointment with Aytekin.

Treimanis and Dabanović can be a bit disappointed with their games. Important observers for Schärer (under very close focus!) and Ağayev.

Collum gets a game, but a de facto dead one. I only watched Rangers - Celtic Final in the background on Sunday afternoon but if you ask me it wasn't the best performance with three missed RCs and a missed penalty (decisive goal was offside, too). I'll try to upload some clips in the afternoon. His EURO chances are in huge danger if you ask me.

Finally - farewell to Kevin Blom, he can be really satisfied with what he managed in his career especially in the time after his demotion some years ago. Thank you!

    1. Speaking about Blom, I think there are many referees like Cakir, Skomina, Hategan and others, who made many super crucial mistakes, but didn't suffer that much like Blom from his incorrect call. I think he was worthy of a better carrer. What do you think?

      Delete
  10. Levnikov is not appointed because he has been having troubles in domestic league. He made some crucial mistakes in the beginnig of the season and then was banned. In last months he had only 1 or 2 games domestically. Maybe that is the reason, why he isn't appointed internationally

    ReplyDelete
  11. I expected Bebek in this round, so its a little bit surprising not to see him on the list. He had 2 games (MD2 and MD3 if Im not wrong) in EL group stage this season and did good job.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I am also suprised, but I dont think it is related to his performance but with the idea to include as much as possible referees into club competitions. In total 86 referees have been appointed in Europa League for 144 matches. There are not so much referees with 3 matches in Europa League this season as it used to be in previous seasons.

      Delete
    2. I dont know, maybe missed RC in Celtic-Lazio was key for him missing other match days.

  12. The Germans have come out on top in the Champions League and Europa League this week. Showing their depth by having 5 completely different referee teams. Not doubling up like you see with the English, for example.

  17. Mikael, I read that you reported Meshkov at his EL group stage debut, this should be wrong. According to some sources, he already officiated a game in EL group stage on November 2015, Rosenborg - Saint-Étienne. But this was the only appearance so far. I don' remember if this was a replacement or something like that.
The only debut of this matchday is Tierney, if I'm not wrong.

  18. Off topic:
For the first time one football referee (Milorad Mažić) was named the best in two different countries.
In a grandiose ceremony in Shaghai the best were officially announced of the recently finished 2019 China Super League.
In addition to this, Milorad Mažić is an example to the younger referees as a 46 years old man he refereed all the great competitions: two FIFA World Cups, FIFA Cup Confederation final game, EURO, UEFA Supercup final and Champions league final.
I watched a lot of games this season because China Super League broadcasting in Europe. He still views every game as a "final game" and breaks all boundaries, because for a professional such as him all ends are yust new beginnins.

  19. Clear foul missed before goal in Frankfurt.

  20. I think missed foul by Mazeika in Vitória SC goal, lots of complaints by Eintracht players.

    1. Clear foul. He had a good view too, not sure how he missed it. Very obvious.

  21. Maybe LASK Linz scored from a corner kick with the ball out of corner arc or it was just my perspective?

Spanish TV commentator also noticed it like "hold on, that ball seems clearly 'irregular'". XD

  22. Potential missed RC for Lazio around 13-14'.

Correct onside by AR2 and play-on by Mazeika.

    I think correct both decisions.

Very interesting situation, clear RC because the keeper deliberately uses the leg to stop attacker, preventing him to reach the ball. Never a genuine foul, so RC. Very good from ollum. We could call it even SFP or violent conduct, but most important thing is to detect that keeper was aware he couldn't reach the ball and he did that on purpose.

      Delete
  25. Very lenient Jovanović... he could have issued some RCs.
Overall not a positive impression from the Serbian in this game.

    ReplyDelete
  26. A crucial mistake by AR1 in Qarabag - Dudlange, a regular goal was disallowed.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ekberg with usual lenient display but it worked well today as both teams were focused on playing football.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Why do we always call it a lenient approach when some referees are simply not doing their job - i.e. showing cards when they must show??? p.s. see also Chefren description for Jovanovic performance

  28. Chaotic additional time in Eindhoven, a penalty appeal for handball, and then a disallowed goal. Meshkov had some troubles in being accepted by players, he was also pushed.

  30. WOL v BES - Treimanis had an arguable YC foul for SPA by Bes #34 in the 10th minute. He chose to go with a strong public warning, excusing my Wolves bias do think it was a YC, but if he maintains consistency on that and punishes any further offences by #34 then will be okay for him. Very little meaning in the game for Wolves meant few protests too.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Has allowed a similar pullback by Wol #32 so 'balanced' in that regard, still would've preferred cards for both, think it encourages the fouls otherwise.

      Delete
    2. Correct YC for Wol #49 for a reckless tackle from behind, higher intensity would've been looking more like SFP but there was not excessive force in the challenge.

      Delete
    3. Thanks - nice to see a fellow Englishman on here (I presume)!

      Do you handle matches yourself?

      Delete
    4. Yes English as well and yeah I'm a referee myself so any opportunity to learn is a good one.

A few protests early on some of Treimanis' early second half fouls from Wolves as they disagreed with them, I did too but think they were a bit soft compared to his earlier line, but a fantastic advantage and delayed YC produced nearly a minute later for Bes #20 for a reckless tackle/SPA and he's shown great sprints on a number of counter attacks including just now for the Wolves goal.

  31. POR-FEY 9th minute a yellow card for Otávio, but very close to - if not an exact - SFP. Otávio with full stud contact on opponent’s achilles tendon.

  34. Sandro Schärer with a correct penalty awarded to the home team in Manchester and also correct to not issue a yellow card (SPA in a genuine attempt to play the ball).
Just before Manchester’s 2nd goal however a clear foul on an Alkmaar defender went unpunished. It looked like ball was played but replays showed this was definitely not the case. With VAR in place this goal would have been cancelled.

  35. How was Sánchez Martínez in Mönchengladbach?

  36. Decent game for Brych in Glasgow, only KMI I can recall was a a penalty midway through the first half when Morelos was clipped, think VAR would've got involved if it was available.

Both second half yellows against Rangers #8 were for the same thing, pulling back an opponent about 25-30 yards from the opposition goal.

    1. On Kassai as some users asked - I watched until 75', easy-going and unremarkable game for him. As we know him, amazing natural authority; he acted against a dissent with a caution. Not much else to say really.

In the incident at 51' you can see Hungarian's "feeling" that sth had happened - he just missed it by milliseconds!

Besides showing again that he is capable of handling matches with VAR in operation (and potential 7,9?), ATLLOK should make only minute difference as to whether Kassai attends EURO or not.
