  1. Why no VAR on WC qualification matches ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because the poor Andorra and Gibraltar don't have the financial resources in order to implement VAR in these matches

      Delete
    2. You are right; it should be in charge to Uefa body and government. There isn't any plan to develop refereeing in the poor countries (from soccer point of view).
For example, in the shoes of Uefa, I would impose high level countries to assign on their domestic league referees coming from neighbors poor countries.
Spain and Pourtgal should assign referees from Andorra and Gibratler, Italy referees from San marino, France referees from Luxemburg, and so on...

    3. Let's remember that the development of VAR in all UEFA competitions is at moment blocked due to COVID reasons, before thinking about World Cup qualifiers, an earlier step must be Europa League group stage, this was postponed as well. So, before the reasons you mentioned, for sure you must now consider that. Then, coming into the argument of small federations, I don't know how it could work in case in future VAR will be used also in qualifiers. For sure many stadiums, not only the ones from small federations, will have to be adjusted for the use of technology. I don't see this possible in a close future.

  3. Slavia Prague is pressing charges against the attack that happened after the yesterday's match. According to the club, the attack was planned and brutal, with evidence being covering the cameras at the place where it happened. It was witnessed by a UEFA delegate and Steven Gerrard, along with the Slavia delegation. From anonymous source, Koudela has apparently called Kamara "a fucking monkey" on the pitch, but it is not comfirmed. The Rangers' manager did not critizise the attack and called the foul on Kolář "clash with the goalie".

The source comes from the club itself (not including what Koudela said, that just circles on the internet)

    1. By UEFA racism standards, this all is nothing more than "cultural differences" and yet another case of a "misunderstanding".

      Delete
    2. I think it has a no point to even try to argue with you. No matter what a person says, you will also repeat your illogical and untrue statements. Anonymous in the other thread asked you for sepcific situations where UEFA did not react, you did not answer. Notice that all I wrote about the alleged racism are just rumours, nothing is comfirmed, so stop lynching everybkdy before they pass the verdict.

    1. What one can say is that Romanian federation doesn't agree with UEFA about the decisions taken on Coltescu and Sovre, othewise they would have suspended both from domestic league as well.
Of course, this is not mandatory, but it helps us to understand all points of view.

    2. It shows how "serious" UEFA is about combating racism. I applaud UEFA for being a confederation in which racism doesn't exist at all. And for understanding that words don't matter.

      Delete
    3. Come on, are you going to continue to bark up this tree? You cannot say there was an intent from the Romanian officials to racially abuse a player, it was simy a word that sounds very similiar to a degragatory term in English. Stupid? Yes. Racist? Definitely not.

      Delete
    4. I agree. There is no racism in UEFA. Only misunderstandings, cultural differences, or improper behaviors. Words are just word, no matter how they may sound. Silly people need to realize like UEFA does, that words can't be hurtful.

  14. Foreign appointments in Greece:

    Asteras Tripolis - Panathinaikos (21 March, 15:00)
António Nobre - Ilias Alexeas, Iordanis Aptosoglou - Efstathios Gortsilas
    [Bruno Esteves, Christos Baltas]

    Olympiakos - Aris (21 March, 17:15)
Jakob Kehlet - Lars Hummelgaard, Heine Sorensen - Stefanos Koumparakis
    [Sandi Putros, Tryfon Petropoulos]

    PAOK - AEK (21 March, 19:30)
Nikola Dabanovic - Andreas Meintanas, Vasileios Nikolakakis - Georgios Tzovaras
    [Marin Vidulin, Andreas Fotopoulos]

Kehlet has his regular Danish trio but Nobre and Dabanovic go with Greek ARs.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would swap Dabanovic with Kehlet.

PAOK - AEK traditionally is a difficult match and needs a more experienced referee. The last PAOK - AEK match was handled by Vincic.

      Delete
    2. Well, then it should be refereed by the more qualified referee. That is not Kehlet...

      Delete
    3. Greek referee's should grow up, revive Greek Refereeing, and reclaim their rightful place within their HOME league.
Enough with them shying away and being afraid to handle the "big" clashes. Their Ref Comm is doing more harm than good by shielding and sheltering Greek Referee's.

The possibilities for great Greek Referee like Kyros Vassaras seems like an unattainable dream for Greece at the moment.

      Delete
    4. Modern is corect. More and more outsider referees coming to Greece now. How can they expect to get top UEFA matches when they only officiate in the less important domestic matches.

      Delete
  15. i believe the definitions of arbitrators for the qualifications you write are not right for some referees, the UEFA Committee puts the talent and the formal ones

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you follow Greek refereeing, you know that this is not possible. Most of the teams don't trust Greek referees and the Ref Committee. So, unfortunately, bringing foreigners is the only solution in order to avoid worse scenes.

      Delete
    2. @edward
I disagree. Greek refs should be in charge of 85% of games, and foreign referees have to be an exception for some (not all) big clashes. It is completely unacceptable that greek referees are seemingly good enough to officiate one league game, but not the other. I would compare this to Turkey: we all saw those scenes in Turkey of molesting referees and fights, but again from that atmosphere you still get Cakir, Palyabik, Meler and so on...

    1. it`s not refereeing news

      Delete
    2. Besides, he is Šuker, not Schuker (?).

      Delete
    3. And unfortunately refereeing organization is one of the biggest problems in Croatia. Every few years someone in the Executive Committee (who is also related to one of the clubs) is unhappy with one performance on one match, he initiate dismisal of Referees Committee and then they do it. Furtheremote, despite Referees Committee is responsible for creating lists at the beggining of the season, Executive committee has the power to overrule Referees Committee and add or move someone of the list. And again, some committee members are related to clubs, then referees are afraid to referee to those clubs, and so on and so on.

  23. Are those appointments made by FIFA or UEFA? If UEFA the refs wear Macron kits otherwise they wear Adidas kits?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Disagree. FIFA made this appointments, not uefa. World Cup is fifa’s business.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, also re. observers it says 'FIFA Referee Assessor' instead of UEFA Observer.

      Delete
    3. it is 2021, and people still do not know that the designations for the qualifiers are made by the confederations that send them to FIFA and are then approved or rejected (something very rare to happen) by FIFA.

      Delete
    4. Appointments are made by UEFA, confirmed by FIFA. In FIFA matches all match officials must be FIFA listed. On UEFA matches AR2 and 4O don't need to be international listed referees.

      Delete
    5. @superstar0110 yes exactly. although i have never in a qualifier seen any rejection of an appointment made by uefa. i think this is just "outsourced" by fifa to uefa (and all other conferedations alike). i dont even think that the handfull of people who work for fifa referee department even have time to check every single appointment (how many would there be, probalbly more than 100 per match-day...). in uefa matches it is not always that ar2 and 4o dont have to be international listed...

  37. Missed handball by Oliver from a Turkey Defender. In the counter the goal for Turkey.

    Where is the VAR....

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There is a handball but not deliberate and arm is in natural position. Even there was VAR I don't think this is a penalty.

      Delete
    2. I think, "when a player falls and the hand/arm is between the body and the ground to support the body, but not extended laterally or vertically away from the body" could be applied there, although there is some arm to ball movement.

      Delete
    3. Even though I'm Dutch, I agree with Ugur B. Ball hit the arm but non-deliberate. I think play on is the better decision.

      Delete
  38. Hand is under the body. That has always been considered a natural position with the new law. Absolutely correct decision

    ReplyDelete
  39. Correct PK by Oliver (tripping)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think a missed goal by Oliver's AR2 now. Ball seems to have crossed the goal-line. Very strange to see he was not positioned on the line at a corner kick. Still waiting for the right replay and the right angle though.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There was a foul before the corner.

      Delete
    2. There is no right replay, all replays have shown it to be inconclusive

      Delete
  41. Clear goal missed by AR2 indeed, very strange positioning.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. First I thought the same but when I watch the replay, he was perfectly positioned with last defender. So here we can't blame AR2. FIFA has to do something to use GLT.

      Delete
    2. Agreed, it was a bit too premature to blame AR2. GLT should be present at least indeed, it would prevent a lot of issues.

      Delete
  42. IMO missed goal for Netherlands following a corner. Replays didn't give clear angle. Before the corner there was a clear foul missed against Turkey. Oliver was very good till 45th min but one clear missed foul and following that missed goal by AR2 will drop his mark.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It looks like especially ARs too much dependent to VAR and Goal Line Technology. Because of that their positioning are not sharp as before.

      Delete
    2. We can’t be sure if the ball crossed the line completely with the images available. So even with VAR in place a goal couldn’t have been awarded (based on the footage shown so far).
Agreed on the missed foul before the corner, but in 22’ home team was awarded a ghost free kick.
The handball before Turkey’s first goal was a typical case of support arm IMO, so correct to play on.

      Delete
    3. I correct myself As AR2 perfectly positioned when I watch the replays. He is with the last defender so we can't blame AR2.

      Delete
  43. Quite extraordinary there is no camera in line with the goal line. Not clear at all.from the replays seen.
Have to note that these officials will be so used to goal line technology they don't take up optimal position for judging goal/no goal situation

    ReplyDelete
  44. Why is here not a VAR or goal line technology?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Maybe without VAR because COVID-19 or small country Andorra and Gibraltar unfortunately cannot reimburse the costs.

      Delete
    2. And without GLT is for me unaceptable

      Delete
  45. Sorry but World Cup qualifiers can't be played without GLT, at least...
    This is unacceptable!

    1. It actually depends on the Stadiums. Some stadiums or matches will have it in use, like the Netherlands vs Latvia.

    2. @Chiagozie, so you're telling me the stadium that will host CL final does not have GLT???????

      Delete
    3. Surely UEFA will actually have one present but that was what the Commentator said and made reference to the match against Latvia.... GLT also involves some special cameras round the stadium and I don’t know if In the Turkish super lig use the GLT ?

    4. Turkish League don't use GLT.

  46. Penalty by Oliver to Netherlands and YC for holding, a correct call IMO

  47. Another penalty, this one correct as well. Extremely challenging game for Oliver, who I think did very well. The only mistake (probably) was the missed goal, but hard to detect and no proof. Well done to Oliver!

    2. Agree, good to see Oliver with a good performance, I think he has been quite unfairly downgraded at UEFA scale in recent times.

About the possibly missed goal, broadcaster didn't show a picture clearly answering whether it was a goal or not. If it should've been a goal, this is the proof that at least GLT must be used: Such crucial games need the better tools to be played in optimal conditions.

  48. I agree with the above comments, excellent game by Oliver. Testament to his calm demeanour that the game never spilled over. 2 good penalty calls and a couple of good no penalty calls.
The goal/no goal is difficult, no definitive angle and the AR is well positioned, even though it looks probably in. I don't think it would be fair to criticise such a close decision.

  49. Contrary to most Oliver fans I do understand UEFA considering Oliver not ultimate top of elite. Tonight all KMI’s correct or at least supportable, but I didn’t really like Oliver’s foul detection/selection. He whistled nearly every physical contact, when in several cases play on would be perfectly OK, and some calls simply incorrect. Free kick before Turkey’s 4th goal was a soft one, as IMO was the penalty awarded to the Dutch.
And his appearance/body language, as usually, looked rather disinterested. Some people like that style, I don’t, it’s a matter of taste.
All in all obviously not a bad performance, but in my view this performance exactly underlined UEFA rating him as below the ‘real elite top’.

  61. Alain Durieux not with a bad showing, he could be something if he is given his chances. However, brutal SFP tackle only punished with a YC. Even for today's UEFA scale this has to be a 9 at least.

  62. Any information about Papapetrou and Sidiropoulos??

  63. Bad night for Massa in Belgrade.
First half without problems. Good foul detection and good criteria.
He could show YC to Irish player at the begining of the match (for reckless start) but he chose verbal warning and that was good choice.
Problems began in the 2nd half. Two missed penalties (52' and 55'), as I reported previously.
Apart from that he had big, big problems with positioning (to far from play, bad angle, bad anticipation).
I really expected more from the Serie A referee.

    6. I rewatched both situations to find a reason why he misssed penalties.

In both situations his view was blocked (maybe even completely) by a player.

    7. In my opinion two clear penalties, indeed.
First case: I didn't like that Massa, despite of a player blocking his view, didn't try to react to better see what was happening, I think indeed he had an obstructed view and he assessed the challenge as fair on the ball. However, most of all the replays are very tricky. It seems that defender hits ball, but that's not true, because last replay is decisive. Clear penalty.
Second case: another very clear penalty for careless challenge. In this case it seems as Massa is looking at another direction, maybe the ball, and doesn't see at all what is happening. He doesn't react as requested when the incident happens. Maybe a lack of alertness for a while. This was very clear penalty. In both cases, explanation is that he didn't see well (at all) what happened.

    8. @whistle2 Those matches are from rgfootball(dot)net. Another good source is fullmatchesandshows(dot)com
52' With replays (and VAR) it is a PK, but I think this is very hard to see and if you are not 100% sure as a referee, I wouldnt give a PK.
55' I would have whistled that. But I can see this not being whistled in a CL-KO-stage game, where UEFA only want very clear PKs.

      Delete
    9. IMO 2 penalties missed, however, especially the first one is difficult to assess.

      Delete
    10. Both, correct! We do not want this penalties.

  64. I have to admit, after watching the footage that Mikael I provided I'm not 100% convinced both situations were wrong.

52' From the footage it's just not possible to tell who played the ball. Ball clearly changes direction so I can see why Massa thought it was played by the defender.

55' Player accidentally slips and blocks the way of the attacker. No deliberate tripping. However, since he's so clearly blocking the attacker's way to the goal I would prefer a penalty here.

  65. Dutch journalist called the UEFA en they confirmed that the choice for goal line technology is by the national FA

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It is ridiculous that a national FA are allowed to make such choices.
I understand that countries like Andorra and Gibraltar don’t have the financial resources to implement GLT. But a country who host the CL FINAL this season and don’t want to use GLT is a shame.
Nowadays football is all about money and politics, but fair play should be no. 1. IMO GLT and VAR are part of fair play.

  67. de Ligt is the world's most expensive defender (€ 85.50m). But after each position he screams and opens his arms and protests against the referee. This situation negatively affects his concentration. He always makes big mistakes in defense, as he did yesterday and Juventus. If he wants to be a big player like Maldini, Ramos, van Dijk, he should only concentrate on the match.

    ReplyDelete
  68. There isn't any logic in the fact that GLT presence is up to national federations, this doesn't create equality. FIFA should say: YES or NO for all games.
