  2. Germany's domestic matches start the new season. Tonight's 2.Bundesliga match FC Schalke - Hamburger SV will be refereed by 2nd division referee Timo Gerach.

    1. This is for sure a top clash, given the two clubs involved.
      Excellent appointmenmt for Timo Gerach.

    2. Great match for Timo Gerach, a really hard working referee. But taking into consideration that all Bundesliga referees are not available due to their preparation camp

  4. Massa suspended by the Italian FA and probably career's end.

    1. Not sure about the end of career, according to recent news everything should be solved in a few months of suspension at maximum.
The problem is about the reputation, the credibility and his will to go on or not after that... the story seems to be very complex right now inside serie A referees.

    3. Thank you for the link, Hans.

Sad story but I don't know how Massa will be able to continue after this.

    4. At least it has nothing to do with their work on the pitch.

  5. Palomar from Lahoz team is AR for Ricardo Burgos, does that conform the rumours that Lahoz has retired?

    1. Nah, we saw Brych's ARs in action in conference and Brych will go until the end of the year. Even if going home after group stage was a big punch for Lahoz.

    3. It's as Ref Paul says, Díaz Pérez del Palomar is a regular AR of De Burgos Bengoetxea in domestic competition.

  6. Finally (!) Clattenburg decided to publish the Greek refereeing lists for Superleague and SL2.

21 referees on SL (7 were demoted and noone was promoted).

    1. Does it look like things are improving?

At least regarding latest UEFA appointments, it seems that Greeks got fair chances to show their skills.

    2. @greekref, Can i find it somewhere?

I guess time will tell if we will see any improvement. For the time being, things haven't improved.

  7. Situation in Greece is disaster. Referees demoted only to satisfy loud clubs. No promoted and no development. Top observer taken off list after years of hard work. Klattenburg is damaging Greek again. Put him.out.

    1. You have opened a big topic of discussion. Observers.

Most of the observers on lower leagues are old, inadequate and only interested in money. That's a big reason why we don't see any development. They don't have anything to offer to younger referees.

Clattenburg should fix that immediately. The observer, above all, is a coach. And he should act like one. Plus many observers don't know the marking system.

Finally the regulations should change for everyone and not some. For example there is an observer in SL (Kokotou) who hasn't done any match on the 1st category. And she is included on the list. How is this legal? Another example. An observer on SL2 has his brother on the ref committee. Is this ethical? So much corruption, unfortunately.

    2. It's the same situation in Malta @greek ref where you have close relatives as referee observers and members of committees which help their relatives in the top division. A really unfortunate corruption issue on the island! AMS !

  8. Extremely important call from Trýfon Petrópoulos in Flora Tallin - Legia Warszawa! Flora's goal disallowed for offside and seconds after that Legia scores for 1:0 (Legia won first game 2:1). It looks like there was no offside position...

    1. No offside indeed, this is football at high level without VAR.
      It must be accepted...

    2. Maybe ist there handball?

      Delete
    3. It seems that the attacker is indeed onside and the goal should count.

I am more interested on the AR's reaction after the 0-1 be Legia. If you watch closely, he walks on his line and seems nervous and uncertain. That tells me that he has doubts about his call.

Overall Papapetrou had a good/expected level performance on a normal difficulty match. But this offside call is a black mark for the whole refereeing team.

      Delete
    4. I don't think the handball is punishable. Looks totally accidental. However, strange that the referee, who initially signalled IDFK, didn't have his arm raised in the moment of (ID)FK execution.

      Delete
    5. Media in Poland write about controversy: this is a big error Papapetru.

      Delete
    6. Sorry guys, but for me there is no clear cameravieuw and line......, i think those situations are the very tough situations for a assistant, and the off/onside might be milimeterwork....human-eye is just not made for this!

    7. No excuse for the error of Greek refereeing team. This has to have consequences. If these kind of crucial, tie-deciding mistakes are not punished, then it offending to the teams that suffered. I hope they are not given a match anymore this autumn.

    1. Monaco - ? Michael Oliver

      04/08 (match 1st leg/ 2nd leg
Dinamo - Legia Mateu Lahoz / Istvan Kovacs
Ferencvaros - Slavia Praha Jesus Gil Manzano /Stieler

      Delete
    2. I see a reason behind each appointment:
Marciniak to recover, Hategan, Kovacs, Mateu Lahoz, Del Cerro after the treatment at EURO, Gil Manzano to come back in touch with European games after Copa America, Stieler after a very long absence with only 1 game in last season's KO stage.
And for sure committee wants to check the form of them at moment.
The only "normal" appointment seems Oliver so far.

      Delete
    3. @Chefren
      I agree.
Especially I am interested how Marciniak and Gil Manzano will perform. The former really needs some good performance and the latter could show how much Copa experience helped him to improve.

  11. Incredible mistake from Treimanis in Belgrade in 94. minute. Kairat player punched in the head by his head one of Zvezda players, and both got YC! He had to get RC for that VC, and player from Zvezda didn’t do anything to get YC. On replay it is clear that Treimanis saw that situation and made such a big mistake in obe very easy going match.

    1. Don't give a wrong info for readers. Correct two YC for unsporting behavior, no VC at all. Expected performance by team.

    2. Oh, I see now, Karasev will be in Eindhoven.

By the way, Kulbakov is appointed for Kairat-Alashkert in El Q3, a classic cat. 1 appointment. I am not against him, but it really does not make sense to keep him in the elite like this, unless it is some polytics reason (Belarus, airplanes...)
