  1. Just some speculations, but very likely I'm wrong...
Italian delegate in Madrid could indicate maybe Orsato for the CL game (travelling together). The name is a quite regular delegate that I don't think would have been sent just only for a YL game. Swiss delegate and a very experienced one in London for Tottenham. Schaerer for the CL game?
The same with some particular observers appointed in Bruges and Milan respectively: quite unlikely to see Treimanis in Belgium, while Rumsas in Milan would be possible, and in case, excellent appointment. All the other observers and delegates for MD5 have their logic. We will see.

  3. OT: Paul Tierney isn't wearing his FIFA badge in NFO v LIV despite the fact he still has it until December 31st. Any guesses as to why? Is he annoyed that he will no longer be on the FIFA list next year?

  5. Three RCs already for Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz (non-FIFA) in Rayo Vallecano-Cádiz.

  6. First weekend in the Scottish Premiership with VAR in use. Fairly uneventful on Friday night, confirming Kevin Clancy's decisions.
Bit more action with on the Saturday lunchtime game with Nick Walsh awarding a penalty after a on field review, no penalty after a check for handball, and retaken penalty for encroachment.

  7. How the studs to the ankle of Haaland isn't a penalty I will never know. But that's VAR in the Premier League for you.

    1. And now a penalty has been rightly given for a trip after VAR review. So Studs to the ankle, play on. But a shin on shin trip warrants a review. I can't make heads or tails of this.

  8. Not convincing at all, sometimes it looks like the whole soul is taken from him and he barely moves.

Delayed foul and YC for Brighton player, not the same criterium and VAR is a special story, the worst in all of 5 big leagues.

  9. Here are both situations of M.CITY match for those who hasn't seen two incidents
    19' PK appeal https://streamable.com/7535be
    40' PK after OFR https://streamable.com/ywqleh

    1. 19': A clear foul and penalty to be whistled after OFR, the only possible explanation is that VAR was "prisoner" of the step on foot concept, and so, watching a different contact, he was unable to detect that it was foul. But in reality, this was even more than a step on foot... I think that one of the problems of VAR nowadays is the attempt of trying to categorize everything. Technically, a very poor mistake, I remember a game involving Manchester United some months ago in which in penalty area another very blatant foul by Maguirre was played on. I really don't understand what English officials have in mind in terms of consistency.

40': attacker makes a movement that can't give us the idea of a clear foul only by defender, yes, penalty more than supportable and absolutely OK on the pitch, but to me not VAR stuff, because for some reasons grey area, let alone if we compare this with the previous incident...

    2. 19': Clear foul and PK IMO, a mandatory VAR intervention missed. YC also mandatory for me. And I'm again caught without any explanation for such poor VAR work in the Premier League.

40': Agree with Chefren fully, Bernardo seems to have made an additional leg movement looking for contact here, therefore a situation where VAR intervention is not necessary IMO. However, a rather clumsy left leg tackle by the defender still justifies the PK decision, IMO.

    3. One more thing to add: I was not impressed by Pawson's body language at all, and not just today, but generally speaking. No clear presence, no visible authority, he sometimes looks like he is forced to step out onto the FoP. Like a worker in some dull job, forced to work there as a last resort. I know it's an English way of handling games, but this is something else, just feels bad sometimes. It gives an impression of being rather meek and I feel sorry for it because Pawson is not a bad referee at all, quite the contrary when he is having a good day IMO.

  10. Fiorentina - Inter:

OFR for penalty, but no card after this challenge... no comment.

    1. I was just posting the same thing Chefren but you where faster. Live play it's ok you can whistle and maybe no card because you think tripping but no card after you're in front of monitor ?? For me its a SFP

      Delete
    2. Yep,I was expecting Red for sure, but nothing.

      Jeez...

    3. Agree with all of you, RC for SFP missed, as clear as day for me. And I would love to be able to hear Valeri's explanation for such a call, this was really poor IMO.

      Delete
    4. The explanation is that full focus was on penalty call and they missed to analyze the nature of the foul. More responsibilites to VAR. Valeri at the monitor could have required more angles. Very serious mistake.

      Delete
    5. Well, the angle shown to him was, IMO, enough. If nothing, just to raise some brain alarms, in the meaning: "Hey, I've got something more serious here." IMHO, both the VAR crew and Valeri are to blame here. And yes, a very serious mistake, as you said. It just leaves a poor impression when all the available technology wasn't enough in such a clear case.

  11. https://streamja.com/20P3k
Now penalty confirmed after VAR intervention, AR1 had called offside, wrong decision, Valeri had already whistled penalty before so no need of an OFR.
But again... a card seems to be missed. Clear Genuine Dogso for me, stop at the moment of the foul... keeper was not booked.
Maybe you can even discuss the penalty call due to the soft touch on ball, but this is always questionable, I agree about the confirmation of penalty by VAR.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agree with you yet again: DOGSO (genuine) for me also. Regarding the penalty, a correct decision for me, that soft touch of the ball by the GK cannot justify the tackle as a whole.

  12. VAR had its first weekend in Scottish football. The big televised game was Hearts v Celtic refereed by nick walsh (uefa 1st cat), there were several talking points.

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xSwniPuvliw

1:15 - penalty awarded after OFR.

2:20 penalty claim handball, no penalty decision supported by VAR

4:35 penalty awarded, retaken for encroachment on rebound
