  1. Looks like Karen Diaz is now the 5th official since Nesbitt is AR2 tomorrow.

    1. So one could say that when appointments for today were made, the decision of selecting Nesbitt as AR for England - Senegal was not still taken.

    2. Seems like selecting Nesbitt or Barton was up in the air.

    1. If it was inside the penalty area, it should be PK.

  3. It was outside of the box, but missed clear arm. It should have been free kick

  4. Hard to tell whether arm was inside the box but it's a clear missed handball regardless

    1. The ball first touches the hip and then the hand, so for me good decision to play on.

  5. I would say that marciniak and lahoz are the best UEFA referees until now in this world cup.

    2. There is a big difference between "the best" and "i like the most" :)

  7. I must say that in recent times Marciniak is "deleting" the poor period in his career, showing again who was the referee we knew before and maybe even more than that... OK this game is not challenging so far, but when nothing happens in most of your games, basically you can say that you have some merits.

  8. 75': Missed 2nd YC for Irvine (advantage, but still reckless)?

  9. Borderline 2nd YC for Irwine, but i prefer no card

  10. 76': Possible card for the Argentinian coach for throwing a second ball onto the field? Law 12 doesn't really require bad intentions...

  11. Did you notice that Marciniak doesn't use spray at ARG-AUS?

  12. Not so challanging game . We can disscuss if in 76' ITs 2nd yellow (reckless) or not(careless) for Irvine after the adventage. IMO both decisions are ok (i prefer no 2nd yellow) . I Think its not the last game for Marciniak. IT was expected level . Good job

  13. There is another incident which was not discussed yet. Messi kicked Behich's foot or shin before the ball went out of play after the Australian was the last to touch it, while he himself was bundled off the pitch. Sokolnicki (too close to the action, no perspective, eager to watch the ball and who might send it into touch) flagged for an Argentinian throw-in. Then Behich (frustration? retaliation?) impeded Gomez, and the free-kick taken by Messi led to the first Argentinian goal. Had Sokolnicki awarded a free-kick to Australia...

  15. NED-ARG: Ramos or Faghani, I guess

    1. If confed neutrality is maintained, those two should indeed be the candidates. Gomes probably was already rejected for POL-ARG, so unlikely, they would accept him now.
BTW, the last Argentinian WC match with a Mexican referee was the 1998 quarterfinal - against the Netherlands. And before that, obviously the 1990 final. They lost both games. I don't know, whether that history or the rivalry between both countries would prevent Ramos.

If Argentina again insists on an UEFA referee, it would probably be Mateu or Orsato. As the Italian has several other options, while Mateu hasn't (if Spain wins in R16 and QF), the Spaniard looks quite likely.

But I would like to see Ramos there.

    2. I don`t really understand what you mean by "If Argentina again insists on an UEFA referee". An Agentinian member from the committee or smth like that? Because nobody from Argentinian FA should have an influence in appointments and receive special treatment because of that.

    3. It has been reported several times in the past, that the Argentinians made clear, that they would prefer an UEFA referee, even if they play against an UEFA team. Most prominent example is the WC final 2014 (and the whole KO stage that year), most recent one is POL-ARG.
I don't know, how much power they really have in that regard, but in many cases, they seem to get, what they want.
And yes, I agree, that it shouldn't be like that.

  16. Analysis

    Overview:

The Pole delivered a satisfying display for his second game at this WC. He tolerated a rather high amount of physicality and this was visible by the way he allowed many strong challenges (5',31',39',60',62',75',85'), therefore it was ultimately reasonable to proceed this way (62' and 75' were the most borderline situations, the latter being a possible SYC, however Marciniak maintained his lenient line at that was fully acceptable).

He cautioned two Australian players in 15' (reckless step on full) and 38' (illegal use of arms), the first one was mandatory but the second one was quite harsh considering his appraoch, leaving it to a sole FK would've been optimal in my book.
Besides a few missed FKs (handball in 4', late kick in 41'), nothing serious to report on a foul detection level.

The strongest area of Marciniak's work was in his interactions with the players: in many occasions he stroke with the right mimics and facial expressions (07',34',62',71',90'), that was a joy to watch because he might simply be one of the best at controlling his body language.

A third appointment should definitely be an option for the trio from Poland.

    Marks:
    Szymon Marciniak - 7
    Pawel Sokolnicki - 7
    Tomasz Listkiewicz - 7
    Tomasz Kwiatkowski - III
