  1. Surprising appointments, breaking the confederations neutrality rule twice. Nevertheless, deserved appointments for both. Good luck!

    1. Very surprising. The 4ths give CAFs expected consolation though with two referees who were argued to take one last game for CAF.

Also to note, if FIFA is thinking more ahead than before, Elfath's ARs are in the VAR booth.

  2. So, expected breaking neutrality rule.

And seems like, in FIFA Oliver is over Taylor.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Ok, so no more games for Taylor? Unexpected, but Oliver showed good performances so far.
The big surprise is van Boekel as VAR. So the OFR was not wrong after all? This should mean that Makkelie will get a game. But not in QF, because in this case van Boekel would have been AVAR with Oliver. Makkelie without van Boekel VAR seems unlikely.

    1. I don't know if it's accurate though

    2. They haven't followed the VAR pairings 100%. It almost makes sense to split them up just to take away a story and Mekkelie still does ENG-FRA.

      Option 2: Marciniak?

Option 3: We have expected Sampaio on POR-MAR. Is the double Europe appointment for the first set a signal that Argentina and Brazil get the other set as a trade?

    3. That, for me, was a clear careless offence. Can't have players knocked in the face. Messi, when struck, was in middle of a jump. Without contact, he likely lands on his feet as opposed to falling awkwardly.

Of course, Messi didn't help speculation because he rolled several times...

  4. You keep Frappart and do not appoint her for the first two games? Incredible

  5. Reading between the lines, one thing seems sure: with Giallatini and Irrati appointed in some roles a day before, it is unlikely to see Orsato on quarterfinals the day after, so this means that he is kept for a semifinal (impossible to get directly the final) and I would say since a quite long time.

    1. Yes, I agree.
Together with van Boekel appointed (making Makkelie unlikely), it should be between Marciniak and a South American for FRA-ENG.

    2. True, Orsato and Elfath not for QF.

      Delete
    3. Very possible they are SF or Final officials - both have been outstanding

  6. AR2 Beswick is with Oliver rather than Taylor

    ReplyDelete
  7. Bennett replaced by Beswick.
I don't remember a bad performance by Bennett, so probably a health/injury problem.

    1. It can also be a simple choice based on representing both Oliver and Taylor's crews :)

      Delete
    2. That would be weird IMO.
Why shouldn't you allow Oliver to work with his known assistants in the biggest international game of his career so far?

      Delete
    3. I know, we are speculating, but:
If Bennett was indeed unavailable, it would be even more remarkable that they chose Oliver above Taylor (who still could get FRA-POR, if it happens).

      Delete
    4. I hope FIFA haven't replaced Bennett to appease Taylor's team as that would be absolutely shockingly bad on their part. As mentioned, I can't see what Bennett had doe in the matches to warrant such action.
So we can only assume that Bennett is unfortunately unavailable/injured.

  8. Still no games for AFC officials.
After two UEFA names, one could expect referees from other confederations on 10 December, but I wouldn't be 100% sure. I think that it will be possible to see a third UEFA name and maybe another from a different confederation. With Orsato already planned for a semifinal, in my opinion Mateu Lahoz game is a test for the possible final appointment.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Lahoz got a QF and IMO Marciniak will get QF (ENGFRA). Final will be issue between them. So performance in QF's will decide.

  9. FIFA Referee Committee has confirmed that 20 refs, 39 ARs and 19 VMOs will remain in #Qatar2022 for Quarterfinals onwards.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So, that means at least 4 refs won't be used at all.
Very much now depends on the outcomes of the QF's.
      Perhaps Barton, at least 1(if not 2) of Taylor/Turpin/Frappart, 1 of Rappalini/Sampaio

      Delete
  10. Makkiele or orsato for the final

    ReplyDelete

    1. Netherlands is still in the game...

      Delete
    2. I think Orsato is not likely anymore: with Irrati appointed today, we can forecast that Orsato does not have a QF. He cannot go to the final from a semifinal, and it would also be unusual for him to go to the final without a previous knockout match. So I think we can say for sure, he's one of the two semifinal referees.

      Delete
  11. My early prediction: FRAENG for Marciniak, PORMAR for a Latin American (Tello/Claus/Sampaio) or even Barton.

    SFs for Orsato & Elfath.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well, predicted correctly with the first two but after the Morocco result I thought Lahoz would be saved for the next set of QF's.
Taylor's not allowing the corner for S Korea at the end and IMO a very soft penalty in his second game cost him. Oliver had 2 games without incident which gave him the nod for the battle between those two.
Was pretty certain Orsato was pencilled in for a SF very early on (and I can't see that changing).
I'm pretty sure that we won't see refs in Ro16 being used in QF's saving them for other matches.
Also, not so sure that we won't see Makkelie in a QF and now think he may get the ENG v FRA game.
Concacaf refs used in Ro16 lead me to think they won't be involved as referee until a SF at earliest.
1 of Tello & Valenzuela are sure bets for a 4th official spot in the next few games (possibly Tello with Claus as they weren't used in Ro16).
    So, for me:
ENG v FRA: Makkelie or Mohammed with 4th either Mohammed (if not ref) or Al Jasmin
MOR v POR: Claus 4th Tello

    ReplyDelete
  13. Giallatini, Irrati and van Boekel as VAR on friday it means no Makkelie and Orsato in QF's (also on saturday). My prediction: Makkelie and Orsato in SF games (if NED will lose). IMO ENGFRA for Marciniak and then 3rd place game or final for him (depends on performance in this game).

    ReplyDelete
  14. I've stated before, Orsato is sure for a SF IMHO
The other is really down to how far France go and how much faith they have in Elfath (because I'm sure he's being looked at as a Final candidate).
I actually think either way either Marciniak or Ramos/Elfath will be involved in the other SF.

    ReplyDelete
  15. My prediction:
    FRAENG for Makkelie,
    PORMAR for Sampaio

    SFs for Orsato & Elfath
    Finał Marciniak

    ReplyDelete
  16. Orsato and maybe Elfath or Makkelie for the semifinal. Turpin probably for the final. If France will continue to the final, it means open doors for Elfath or maybe Lahoz for the final.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If Turpin officiate World Cup final, he will be the 2nd referee which officiate UCL and World Cup final in the same year, and if Marcinak officiate World Cup final, maybe he will officiate World Cup final and UCL final(22/23) in the same season

      Delete
  17. The contestants for the final in my prediction are
    1. Lahoz
    2. Marciniak
    3. Orsato

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Orsato for the final directly after two group stage matches and no game in play-off seems to be impossible.

    2. I really can't think Orsato inline for final, Elfath & Lahoz seem strong choices with Turpin (depends on France) as the other.

  22. Why are all of you ruling out Orsato for FRA-ENG?

    1) Makkelie may well be done (maybe only kept for an important fourth official appointment)
    2) FIFA may prefer Orsato for FRA-ENG and the final rather than just 1 match, even when it is BRA-ARG.

So as it looks now, what about?
    POR-MOR: Sampaio
    ENG-FRA: Orsato

    BRA-ARG: Marciniak
    semi 2: Ramos

    Final: Orsato

    1. Alessandro Giallatini is Orsato's assistent and works as Offside Video Assistant Referee in NED-ARG. So it is almost impossible he will work as assistant referee next day in ENG-FRA. And Orsato with different assistant is nonsense.

    ENG-FRA: Orsato
    POR-MAR: Claus
    SF1: Marciniak
    SF2: Lahoz
    Final: Orsato

Switch Orsato and Marciniak’s roles if it is politically untenable for an Italian to have the final again.

Of course, that’s just what I *want*, not necessarily what I think will happen. In particular I think it’s sure that Orsato is saved for a semifinal, and I think Sampaio is more likely than Claus.

  28. So, I as expected Al Jassim remains for the last games, but only with one game in the tournament. Maybe, because he is the host referee, and he will be use as a FO. Mohammed could be a trump card for me, also for a final spot, because the competition is in Arabia. For me is strange to send Vincic home, but this is FIFA, not UEFA i guessed. Frappart could be the FO for the third place, but not with France there.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Coming to Al Jassim possible appointment, I think that now the main problem is VAR. We know what happened with the VAR from Qatar, now in case he should get a game with a VAR from another country. Nevertheless, this problem was not still present when he didn't get a second game after his first one and a certain time passed. I would say that Collina didn't like his way of handling the game, despite of his overall "positive" appearance. Otherwise no explanations for a missing second game, and more generally AFC with an extremely poor WC.

      Delete
    2. Maybe i was misunderstanding. Al Jassim is from the host country, and I said, he could be used as a FO, and not to have another game.
