  1. Two clips from Kovács game, Lilla - Fenerbahçe.

45'+1 Yellow cards for off the ball mutual misconducts, and warning
    https://streambug.org/cv/fdb6ba

78' Very good delayed whistle before the free kick leading to a goal scored by away-team. He waited for a possible goal without making any gesture, as required.
    https://streambug.org/cv/615ff0

He also booked Džeko in the 9' minute of the game. It was not a challenging task for him, but one could say the Romanian didn't lose his way of officiating, after the very difficult match he officiated at EURO.

  2. Sven Jablonski in Jagiellonia Białystok - Bodø/Glimt.
We can easily say that this wasn't a very challenging game for the German referee, rather a quite fair one and with only a few moments of tension. First half was absolutely the calmest I ever saw,, with 2 or 3 fouls and absolutely nothing to do for referee. But... in second half happened something that marked the performance of the German, and, I'm sorry, not in a positive way. A disallowed goal via VAR intervention in 65', and after that we must report the most nervous moment of the game, but definitely isolated from the context. The German referee started with cautions after a very easy disciplinary control until that moment. But the "bad foul" was the only one in 68', the rest absolutely normal challenges of a football game.
Also, the Polish crowd was definitely amazing, a very hot atmosphere, in which a challenging game, or a game with some decisions against the home side, would have surely result in a more than huge task for referee. Since the OFR involved a decision in favor of home, the referee didn't experience that.
I'm really in trouble to make a final assessment about the German based on this game, it would be a NO ASSESSMENT without the crucial incident, in the meaning that nothing enough occurred, but... let's then watch the clips.

    24'
The only interesting moment of the whole first half, when crowd asked for a free kick, but replay showed that play on was definitely correct decision by the German referee. This clips shows also us that with such atmosphere it could have been definitely a challenging task for the referee, in case of more intensive game.

65' Disallowed goal after VAR intervention.
    https://streambug.org/cv/4ce595
And here we have the big point for discussion. A significant miss by referee, who should have ensured the control of penalty area during the corner kick, until that moment, as said, nothing had happened in the game. Osmers called him for this two-hands push and one can understand the reason in Osmers mind: direct influence on the opponent who was close, then immediate goal scored. Easy to say this should have been seen live by referee or at least by officials. I think this positioning at set pieces must be improved, a referee must be ready to sprint if needed, otherwise one should demand this call to AR1.

68' YC for a late challenge, a deliberate and maybe even cynical foul if you ask me, player aware he would have arrived later, hitting opponent. Correct decision.
    https://streambug.org/cv/8d0dfd

72' YC for holding, impeding a quick attack
    https://streambug.org/cv/b97793

90'+4 YC for holding, rather LoR than SPA
    https://streambug.org/cv/226219

Accurate work by both assistant referees, not so much challenged, but always fully correct decisions.

  3. Eredivisie:
    Ajax - sc Heerenveen

Bas Nijhuis gave a RC by DOGSO, which seemed like not clear error, but then VAR Jeoren Manschot intervened and after review Nijhuis changed the RC to YC.
    https://x.com/ESPNnl/status/1822652053560217653

    Nijhuis:
'The ball and player are hit, but the fact that the ball is played outwards also plays a role. It is that it is played outwards and that no direct scoring opportunity is then denied. It was then clear that it should not be a red card, but a yellow card.'

It's hard to tell even when you watch the video. It looks like a clean tackle. It took about four minutes! from original decision until YC corrected it, and t
he incomprehensible restart led to a lot of criticism. It seems they avoided a clear error, but some people think they made a brave, ambiguous choice. While it appears they managed to avoid a clear error, some people believe it was a brave and ambiguous choice.

The KNVB will be testing on-field announcements from the last 16 round of the cup tournament onwards. I hope that the referees will be able to explain things well in these situations.

Eredivisie kicked-off last Friday, with a straight RC and penalty in the 6th minute, for a Dogso with no attempt to play the ball (Ref: Nagtegaal).

    https://youtu.be/fZYoPXLZWJo

3 straight RC’s in Almere-AZ (ref: Vd Kerkhof).

The good news: all RC were issued without involvement of VAR.

On the other hand, due to a technical failure during Feyenoord-Willem II, the officials lost the connection with VAR the entire 2nd half (CR: Higler). Luckily no major mistakes have occurred..

    1. No major mistakes have occurred?
Around the 70th minute, there was a very clear penalty scene where Gimenez was grabbed and brought down by St. Jago in the penalty area.

It has been announced that the communications blackout was only brief and temporary, not lasting for the entire second half.

      Delete
    2. Hmm. In my opinion, a holding like that should be whistled on the pitch. It lasted short and therefore was not blatant enough that the average Dutch VMO or UEFA VMO would make an intervention.
In fact, the incident didn’t make the summary on Feyenoord’s own YouTube channel. Make of that what you want.

  5. Donatas Rumsas in the game that was discussed after the incident involving the Polish VAR crew. On paper, also a very challenging one, in reality I think normal difficulty with an upper trend, especially in second half and the second part of it. First half was rather very calm for the referee. But then he was surely challenged after the second half kick off whistle. Neutral ground, and you know, this always means less difficulty on paper for referee, but there was a quite good attendance at stadium. Not very clear crucial situations, unless maybe the incident of first half, but overall many small things to be reviewed, and, before all the rest, the management of problematic players, in which the referee showed too much leniency.
I think he has a certain style that can work in some games, but when more challenging contexts are waiting, well, better to change...

    Clips of the incidents

18' Disallowed goal AR2, correct decision
    https://streambug.org/cv/c4a893

40' Possible YC for late challenge
    https://streambug.org/cv/4086ef
This was the first remarkable foul of the game, I think the goal scored a few minutes before by Ukrainian side contributed to this behavior by Raners player. I also think that you can accept the management by referee, who warned the player.

42' Possible foul, in case possible penalty for holding
    https://streambug.org/cv/1a2a92
    https://streambug.org/cv/394ec3 (Replay)
Supportable no call by Lithuanian referee, because you can't say that this was a clear foul by Dinamo player. You have at first the Rangers attakcker going by shoulder against defender, then this holding that could be discussed, but this wasn't first action. For VAR purposes, I think the holding ends in the box, so in case penalty, but I agree that it wasn't worthy of an OFR.

    1. 55' Warning before a throw-in, management.
      https://streambug.org/cv/af523b

      66' Possible YC - Warning
      https://streambug.org/cv/8fada8
Yes, the same player of first half (40'), situation. Maybe the Lithuanian referee didn't remember that, but issuing a second warning in second half for the same player shouldn'd be seen as the best management. I think missed YC here for sure, even if you wanted to give a "bonus" to Rangers nr. 9 before.

67' Possible YC for late challenge
      https://streambug.org/cv/babbda
I think in this case the expected decision, given also the attack led by Scottish team close to sideline, would have been rather YC. The referee still refrains from issuing a card.

78' YC for SPA after a lost ball
      https://streambug.org/cv/e45e57
Absolutely mandatory and correct decision by referee.

      84' YC after advantage
      https://streambug.org/cv/b44f58
This was the best management by Lithuanian referee in the game. You can see how much he was in doubt in the midfield to whistle or not, and he had the best intuition by allowing play on, the attack ended in a big chance to score.

88' Possible YC for reckless action, no replay, warning
      https://streambug.org/cv/8e59bf
I think that the live sequence suggests us about a YC, but without evidence, one must back referee. Nevertheless, should be discussed if it's still good to talk to players to warn them at this point of the game. The Lithuanian relies really much on his communication on the field, maybe sometimes too much instead of showing cards?

      90' YC for reckless challenge
      https://streambug.org/cv/fe3751
And finally, the YC for the most problematic player from Rangers team arrived. He played very often in disregard of opponents safety and he was lucky to end this game with only one card. We could say, this would have been the second, but of course in refereeing it's impossible to reason like that, with a previous card, player maybe wouldn't have done anything more. For me this was a very mandatory decision and it's also interesing the reaction of Rumsas, he immedialy pulled out the card, but he stopped himself for a while before booking. OK no VAR intervention, but I think straight RC would have been supported as well (key argument: intensity).

So, one could say that all in all it was still an OK performance by Rumsas, but one could feel definitely unfair that the player who committed more fouls than others, at the end was crucial with the equalizer he scored. I wouldn't be very happy after this performance, but it wasn't clearly a poor one. In my opinion he should be more strict when needed and using cards, without giving bonus to players who don't deserve that. He has a very good read of the game and refereeing skills, shown in the 84' minute, so still a pleasure to watch him, also elegant gestures (I didn't make the clips, but this was visible also in other situations).

118' Correct goal disallowed for offside, great eye from AR1, 2nd time in match
119' Penalty appeal in Trn penalty area, IMO correctly play on
119' Correct YC to TrnGK for some trashtalk to Wis player

    4. In penalty shootout
VAR correctly ask to retake penalty to Wis GK, for not being at least one foot on goal line

    5. 81'... very clear penalty. You must assess this one at least as careless!

But coming from a Scottish VAR who is used to British style, well, I can understand why they didn't detect that.

  10. I watched only the last minutes (more than 15 minutes of added time in second half) of Schröder in Athens. Saying that it was a very challenging game is not enough... I watched the incident only once, but I think that if you whistle a foul in 103', you should send off the player for DOGSO. Definitely, not the kind of game for a German referee... a totally different world than Bundesliga.

  11. total embarrassment Gives Strukan!!! distorted result, 26 minutes added in the second half, now I'm not surprised that Croatian referees rarely appear in the group stages, shame on you Mr. Strukan!!!

  12. A complete nightmare for Strukan in a honestly horrible performance. 3 RC for the home team and several mass confrontations led to the complete loss of the game for the Croat.
First Red Card was given after OFR for a dive (original decision was penalty). Very doubtful if a OFR was correct, it would have been a very soft, rather wrong penalty. But however, 2YC for diving was just wrong.
Second RC was the result of (another…) mass confrontaion during an OFR review for a decisive penalty in 90+18‘ (missed handball, final decision(s) correct). The penalty also had to be retaken due to the GK leaving the line too early.
Third RC was nor clear why: Strukan gave another YC for diving and it seemed like the player got his second caution which is not possible because he was not cautioned before. Maybe, there was some sort of dissent not visible in TV.

    1. First red card (2nd yc) was absolutely correct, outrageous dive.

    2. The penalty - simulation incident is very tricky. I think you can't be 100% sure attacker made a "full" simulation, but for sure his attitude was to win a penalty and that's clear. Nevertheless, once you are unable to spot with a real evidence that the player was not touched at all, you can't intervene with VAR. In my opinion this should have rather stayed as very controversial penalty, but the intervention leads to more discussions. The argument of Anty75 are clear, and many referees can see this a blatant dive, but the video doesn't give us the final confirmation... because defender puts leg there.
A decision that I would have liked to see live by Strukan, but indeed one can understand why he gave rather penalty...

  13. 3 RC in HBS-MLB by Jaanovitz, all to home team, all deserved, one of them after OFR

    1. 74', second YC: https://streambug.org/cv/6bf92d
      90'+3, second YC: https://streambug.org/cv/0dc4b0
90'+10 straight RC after OFR https://streambug.org/cv/cf06b4
Just watching the clips, the referee doesn't give the idea he was in control of the game... and what a poor management to look at the player before issuing second YC in 74', that's terrible! First thing a referee must do is to issue the card, otherwise he gives the idea of being influenced by the injury of the player!

  14. Somebody asked for PAFOS - CSKA clips, just found two incidents.

    Second YC in first half:

Penalty appeal by Pafos (not crucial then for final score):
    https://streambug.org/cv/129ef7

The first YC for the player who was then sent off in the clip should have been for SPA, because in the highlights you can see a free kick close to penalty area in favor of PAFOS in 33', a few after the first YC for the player from Sofia (not shown).

    1. Thank you Chefren :) The first YC is not for SPA, it's for reckless i think.

    1. Again, incredible that only Fiorentina second leg is not appointed. If Rosetti is reading here, as one could imagine, I invite him to be less worried about Italian teams and to treat them like others, now it appears too obvious that Italian assignments are more weighed than others, but this shouldn't be done in my opinion. Also, you can see, for first leg in Florence clearly a referee under the spotlights, like the French.
