Best game in this round for Glova, but the observer doesn't indicate that committee is following him, at least for now.
ReplyDeleteHategan is appointed to Shamrock Rovers - Celje (2nd leg)
ReplyDeleteHoward Webb observe Vd Eijk.
ReplyDeleteThis week appointment in CL now EL.
Looks like he is followed more than Lindhout at moment? But he is still Category 2 and must wait before important assignments.
DeleteI never saw a big talent in this referee at all…
DeleteHe is Dutch... Evetyhting is in politics. BTW Italy will have 3 games in Champions League second legs. Ludogorets-Qarabag Sozza, PAOK-Malmö Di Bello, Rangers-Dinamo Kijev Guida. We 10 games and 3 Italian. What an unfair appointments with other countries. Rossetti need immediatley resign. Poorest decisions ever.
DeleteI agree that too many Italian referees are concentrated in only one round, but if we look at the number of Italian appointments I think it's indeed OK. One can criticize the fact that most of them got CL games and rather decent games on Q3, instead of previous assignments. Among them, for sure Di Bello is the one that we could have expected in another competition after the very poor season he had, but he is still a Category 1.
DeleteI also observed that after the replacement by Maresca in that hot Bosnian - Albanian clash, Colombo was not appointed for his debut in UEFA competitions. I think we can expect him in Conference League. Chiffi is another referee without assignments, but he appeared as VAR in some games. That's worrying because he got injured during last season in serie A and he was never back, if still not fit at moment, one should also wonder about the career... we will see.
It seems that the UEFA struggle to find successors of Makkelie and quickly switch from one to another referee (Higler -> Lindhout -> Van der Eijk). In my opinion, they should immediately focus on Nagtegaal. Enormous talent, practically he could've been added to the first category at the moment he got his FIFA badge, he has all the needed skills to become a very top referee.
DeleteIt seems Glova impressed the committee last season and it continues.
Lindhout is a decent category 1 - I don’t see him as future Elite.
DeleteVan der Eijk, I’m not sure about his potential. Too isolated as a referee and lacks maturity. On the other hand, he is brave and not afraid to show his cards. A bit too clinical (like Kovacs). Not always a good approach, he can fuel the fire by doing so. Van der Eijk is not always respected by the players.
I guess UEFA will identify him as a pure law enforcer if he does not adapt his style. Actually he is a former athlete, with great fitness abilities. But to reach the top, he should be able to change his style and build a personality.
Joey Kooij just returned from injury. I watched him in a friendly game recently (AZ vs Atalanta Bergamo).
Most promising category 2 referee is Marc Nagtegaal if you ask me. He has all the tools to reach the top, has the rare ability to connect with players, is respected, and at the same time very calm and mature.
@ ESF and I seem to agree about Nagtegaal 👍🏼
DeleteHah, what a synchro :D
DeleteLindhout is not a good referee. I think Vd Eijk and Nagtegaal are two promising referees.
DeleteHigler and Lindhout are in a few years off the europian list or degreadation to a lower category
I must say, I think Van der Eijk is a good referee who is showing good development. Makkelie wasn't a star either at his start. He is a good decisiontaker who has gotten more important matches recently and who has shown that he is able to lead matches.
DeleteIt's Stuart Attwell as VAR in Vilnius.

English referee for a Welsh team is perhaps a little unusual in the later qualifying rounds
Delete@Ecosse Even more so when you consider TNS is actually an English team playing in the Welsh league system
DeleteBrooks has an injury and been replaced by fellow PL Referee Rob Jones
DeleteJones is a very common Welsh surname. Surprised he would be appointed to a Welsh team
DeleteAnother appointment to Frid after a solid perfomance on UCL 2nd round
