    1. Why VAR Guzman didn’t correct wrong GK decision here ? Sorry but that’s definitively a mess concerning VAR use !

      Delete
    2. 74 matches in and you're asking why VAR didn't turn a GK into a CK?

      Delete
    3. Because VAR is only allowed to change a corner into a goal kick

      Delete
    4. It was a correctly awarded goal kick

      Delete
    5. Was ironic…but not clear i guess lol. Just to say VAR use is completely disbalanced by the last procedure evolution.

  3. Jayed not convincing again, taking a while to spot head injury. Paraguay might make this tough for him…

    1. I actually liked this. The player could easily rolled off pitch to avoid the 1 minute

    2. If Paraguay can keep this tied into the 2nd half it will get challenging.

      Delete
    3. I was a bit surprised PAR#4 had to wait a minute before being allowed to enter again. I was under the impression that the ‘1-minute off’ ruling does not apply if it concerns a head injury (as we’ ve seen earlier in the tournament).

      Delete
    4. That depends on the severity of the injury. Only a serious injury allowed to stay on the field. Not just whether it's a head injury

      Delete
    5. The 1 minute law applies whenever the referee requires that they leave the field of play.

      Delete
    6. I think he made a good call, a really good marker to lay down that he won’t tolerate play acting. For me, this is part of the pre-match analysis where they have identified that this is what this team do & early on making it clear that not only will he not fall for it. Not only that, he will make them leave the field if the game stops.

Yes, there was contact but he embellished the contact looking for the free kick or card. They now know, he won’t tolerate it and for the rest of the card, you’ll see they tried to buy a few free kicks but no more of the behaviour.

    1. I wouldn’t say easy, the PAR goal certainly changed the complexion of the game. Yes there weren’t many KMI’s, but he fulfilled his mandate of letting the game flow (a bit softer foul identification at times but at other times letting the game go) and clearly done his homework on the teams.

I also like how he clearly looked to call fouls when teams were clearly trying to break up play and disrupt momentum, doesn’t quite lead to a consistent high foul bar but prefer it over a free for all and allowing it happen. Second half should be interesting.

  9. Correct first YC. It seems match is heating up a bit.

  10. 1st YC for PAR. Clear one. But I would have prefered the one against GER for SPA a few minutes earlier

    ReplyDelete
  11. Why did he stop now Germany's attack?

    For alleged GK infringment?

Then where is YC for Gomez?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes I think he saw the foul of PAR attacker and little push from Neuer after do he decided to stop the game.

    2. I think for that, but that's only ever a FK. But yes, 100% advantage should have been played. And it would have been so much better if he raised his hand in apology, and apologized or had a humble smile with the players. Just looking away completely ignoring it wasn't a great look

    ReplyDelete
  33. Soft as hell, the goalkeeper turns without looking into the attacker standing his ground, no obligation to get out of the way.

  36. Maybe I'm too used to the English game, but a player standing there and a goalkeeper running into them and falling over is never ever a foul. And even less a clear and obvious error. I know Collina likes blocking less, but for me, a completely unjustifiable decision

    4. @professionalism, that rule doesn't exist since over 10 years now 😁

      Delete
    5. Agreed, but the goalkeeper runs into anton more than anything. And its an odd var intervention when looking at how its been used in the tournament so far. It seems theres 0 consinstancy on when var will recommend an OFR.

      Delete
  40. Yes, I agree with the disallowed goal and the foul on the goalkeeper. But the use of VAR at this World Cup is definitely hit-or-miss. There is absolutely no clear line regarding when the video officials intervene and when they don’t. It’s impossible to understand why referees are sometimes sent to the monitor and other times not. It’s all completely arbitrary.

    ReplyDelete
  41. dude just invented a new rule in the WC knockout stage :'D

    ReplyDelete
  42. Up until now good decision quality by Jayed but this decision to annul the 2:1 is not understandable to me… the keeper does not have any special protection anymore and the German attacker doesn’t even hold him actively or anything… especially with the leniency shown at this tournament so far, a bad call in my opinion, also by VAR to recommend OFR

    ReplyDelete
  43. Who saw a foul here, should question his or herself. Maybe switch to another sport.

    ReplyDelete
  44. It seems soft but I dont mind that decision. Blocking the keeper at all should always be a foul

    ReplyDelete
  45. Definitely the last match for Jayed. Unexcusable decision.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I struggle to understand some comments during this WC. Maybe I’m wrong, but had this decision been taken by Turpin, Letexier, Mariani or Pinheiro, everyone would’ve called this decision superb, magnificent, incredible. Non-European referees are treated very harshly on this blog. I find Jayed's performance more than fine, especially in body language and communication, and better than e.g. Makkelie on USAPAR or Pinheiro yesterday.
    Just my opinion !

    4. Disagree on communication but agree for the rest. Good decision by VAR and Jayed to cancel this goal.

      Delete
    5. I don’t care who the referee is the decision is wrong, but it is mainly on Guzman

      Delete
    6. Well it seems that many on this blog believe that non-European (especially CAF) referees shouldn't even be here in the first place, so it's completely understandable....

      Delete
    7. The Europeans suffers as well, just see Felix's matches comments.

      Delete
    8. Because referees outside our European confederation are extremely weak. European officiating is on a completely different level, far superior to the other confederations, and that is simply logical.
African refereeing is considered the worst officiating in the world.

      Delete
    9. I started reading this blog in 2022 during Qatar WC. At that time most if the users seemed to be genuine refs or at least people who new LOTG. Now some of the opinions here are a disgrace to the refs world. And now accusing someone to be bias is simply stupid.

Getting back to the disallowed goal that was never a foul and if someone thinks it was just ridicule themselves.

It is a shame, as the blog used to be a good platform for discussion.

    11. Thank you for raising this issue. This European-centric approach is truly disgusting. Making arrogant comments to non-UEFA referees is just a form of hidden racism, because many local commentators don't even believe that there is football somewhere else besides Europe, so these non-UEFA referees shouldn't be at the World Cup, as they are 'second class' by default.

      Delete
    12. Exactly, Rob. But save your breath because they won't see it... "I don't care about who is refereeing, just the decisions" meanwhile their harshest comments are reserved for non-UEFA referees (unless it's a UEFA referee they hate, like Zwayer) to the point of saying they don't even deserve to referee any match at all... Or that they are amateurish like one one of the blog admins even said....

  47. Clear foul on GK. Anton is clearly still moving into his path and uses his hands little bit. Enough for a foul on GK.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. "Moving into his path"? Since when is that not allowed? Nobody owns a path and none of the two players were in possession of the ball. There's minimal contact, absolutely within what's common for a corner kick.

      Delete
    2. You really need to watch the replay again, there is gap between them as the ball comes in then the goalkeeper moves into the attacker.

      Delete
  48. Darren Cann, WC final AR ‘it’s hardly anything, for me it’s not enough, but they’ll probably give it’

    ReplyDelete
  49. Only thing to go by is impeding the progress of an opponent with contact. In this case blocking the goalkeeper. Nothing else can be used as an argument. Acceptable call but soft.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Possible red card here violent conduct

    ReplyDelete
  51. VAR is definitly refereeing for Paraguay ,turning down a blatant penalty and then disallowing a goal where the goalkeeper makes the first contact.

  52. I'm a little bit worried about the mixed opinions on this OFR.

It's clear as day a play on decision. The attacker stands still, the goalkeeper turns into him. Never a foul, nevermind an intervention!

Let's hope Germany wins, otherwise, it would be a scandal.

    ReplyDelete
  53. This is the worst World Cup edition in terms of VAR.
There were unnecessary interventions—such as the incident involving Vinícius Jr.—while in the match between Germany and Ecuador, VAR remained silent when it should have recommended a review regarding the high boot near the Ecuadorian player's head.
As for the Paraguayan goalkeeper incident, I’m sorry, but in my view, the contact was far too slight to be considered a foul. In the Premier League, for instance, that action wouldn't have triggered a VAR intervention.

  56. 110' Ball was clearly in the corner quadrant. No idea why that had to be moved and delayed further

    ReplyDelete
  57. Attackers foot in defenders face before goal => VAR says no foul
GK runs into/ slightly blocked by attacker => VAR disallowed goal

  61. Clear RC for musiala imo, just want to hurt his opponent by this tackle

    ReplyDelete
  62. Musiala gets YC,deservedly.

But treatment towards him has been very bad,few missed fouls and missed cards for fouls against him,no wonder he lost the plot.

    ReplyDelete
  65. He has completly lost control since 2:1

    ReplyDelete
  66. Musiala suffers hard faults who are never punished I understand that he gets mad

Match is going out of control because Paraguayans are allowed to do anything

    ReplyDelete
  67. If Musiala’s tackle would’ve hit with the straight leg, it sould had been a RC. YC enough in my opinion because of the slight contact.

    ReplyDelete

    1. He made a challenge with absolutely no intention of playing the ball, going in at full speed just to injure the opponent. That is a clear red card

  70. I liked in 113' before the freekick was executed that the referee didn't buy the theatre played by the Paraguayan player and wawed him to get up, Kimmich tried to get the ball and did nothing wrong, it was just time wasting basically from the South American player.

  71. Here’s a natural English version:

As I’ve said before: this referee lacks the personality and charisma needed to manage a match that’s heating up. He’s not proactive enough to prevent tensions from escalating instead of simply reacting to them. He’s simply not at this level.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I believe that was a good intervention by VAR by Tatiana Guzman. The German player knew exactly what he was doing. It was a clear unfair block that affected the goalkeeper movement, especially at the moment the ball was played. That’s the key moment before the ball was played, there was no interference, but once it was played, the block clearly impacted the goalkeeper ability
