Correct to disallow this goal even if attacker in offside didn't touch ball. For this reason, I think, the check by Martins lasted a few seconds more than the expected.
ReplyDeletegood advantage leading go big chance in 20'. But probably a YC offence? Seemed at least boarderline to reckless to me.
ReplyDeleteMatch is on verge with getting 1st YC,few borderline YC offences but so far calm and cool Soares.
ReplyDeleteNow missed chance in 27'to show crystal clear YC.
ReplyDeleteYes, I didnt like the warning. Now he took his chance.
DeleteI agree, definitely a missed YC for me there. I think it's the single significant mistake in the 1H, otherwise a pretty good performance so far, calm and composed.
DeleteCorrect YC for OLY56 for reckless challenge, good moment to open the cards.
ReplyDeletevery poor from Soares Dias allowing FK to be taken about 15 yards from place of offence
ReplyDeleteWhat I like about Soares Diasis the very proactive way he deals with unhappy players and stops possible dissenting actions. He helps the players.
ReplyDelete74' If this isn't a yellow card, what is?
ReplyDeleteAgreed, YC missed for my taste there as well. Unfortunately, one more missed for a reckless tackle by a Fioretina player (Dodo) a few moments before, 84'. I have to admit I see this one as a mandatory YC.
DeleteWhat do you think - Soreas Dias's career is deserved for bigger final?
ReplyDeleteFor me, I was dissapointed, when I realised one year ago that he didn't get EL/Nations Cup/Super Cup.
Conference League seems like consolation prize for whole career, not a form of nobilization/reward
Now in 84 clear missed YC for Dodo.
ReplyDeleteFar better and modern refereeing from Kovacs than tonight's performance.
Soares Dias is leading the match with a lot of personality but his technical accuracy is not really satisfying. But so far, nobody will be talking about him.
ReplyDeleteAnd now to cap it off in last seconds not giving yc for denying throw in...Wow.
ReplyDeleteDecent performance but technical aspect was awful,3-4 mandatory cards missed.
Now overtime, hopefully it doesnt backfire for him.
Interesting PAI in 94. Ball deflected from upper body to arm and therefore not to punish? Otherwise expected ball and arm not very close to the body...
ReplyDeleteFor me the arm was close to the body. By his side and does not move towards the ball. Absolutely not a punishable handball imo
DeleteI'm of the same opinion as Ecosse: arm placed naturally by the player's side, no movement towards the ball. I don't see a punishable handball in that situation.
Deleteim sorry but VAR check for offside with SAOT should not take this long no matter complexity
ReplyDeleteI think the check was also for a possible foul, prior to the attack
Deleteyes, there wss not only offside to be checked.
DeleteGood performance in my opinions. Of course, like many here said, technically not perfect, but Soares Dias was a strong, calm and overall well accepted manager in a tense game that always had the potential to become very hot. The refereeing crew can be satisfied!
ReplyDeleteI thought he was very good! The only complaint can be no card for Dodo (83’). I can’t recall anything else - it was officiated ‘sensibly’ if not 100% accurately
ReplyDeleteGerman commentator: "Outstanding performance by the referee".
ReplyDeleteSoares Dias could have issued 5-7 more yellow cards, indeed. He offered his usual phlegmatic, impassive style but it somehow worked today because both teams behaved well in general. Perhaps he just felt that some technically required cautions are not needed in this match in order to keep control. Surely a different, rather British approach of Portuguese (by the way, FPF plan to copy the PGMOL organization) who can be satisfied the game ended without a controversy. The no penalty call is correct nowadays as the arm was placed along the body, no matter it wasn't 'glued' to the body.
ReplyDeleteGenerally, a decent performance by Soares Dias tonight, IMO. The most positive aspect was his overall management of the game and players: calm and composed, rather distant most of the time, but still with the ability to connect with the players when needed. Control was assured throughout the whole match, even in the hottest moments at (IIRC) 94', when he (IMO correctly) rejected a handball penalty appeal for Olympiacos and subsequently dealt with the ongoing protests firmly and with a clear display of authority (two YCs shown). IMO, all KMIs were solved correctly, and it is also worth to mention good cooperation within the team, including with the quite proactive Nyberg tonight.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, as mentioned by other commentators, a quite unrefined and at moments lacking technical accuracy: a few minor mistakes in foul detection don't tarnish the performance at all, however I've managed to count 3 - 4 missed YCs for my taste, two of them being absolutely mandatory for me (27' and 84' IIRC, probably even the 74' one). Therefore, a significant area for improvement regarding assessing the severity of fouls and/or disciplinary line could have been observed in this performance.
All in all, I can understand why some of the commentators find this performance to be really good. It definitely was strong in terms of control, management, acceptance in a game of normal difficulty, but with a potential to boil over anytime without calm, but assertive leadership of Dias. That is the aspect I find really positive in tonight's performance. However, it has to be noted that Dias's technical accuracy wasn't on the highest level tonight and, while it didn't compromise his control over the game, it certainly led to some unnecessary frustration in a few isolated moments during the match. Therefore, a decent, even good performance for me, however still not of the same high quality as e.g. Kovacs's performance last week, or Dias's own performance in 2022 EL QF Barcelona - Eintracht Frankfurt, for example. Frankly, although I liked his overall performance tonight, I would still prefer the mentioned 2022 Dias to be seen at the Euro. In combination with his cool, but authoritative demeanor, such style could definitely come in handy for some hotter and tense games.
Fully agree.

ReplyDeleteSzymon Marciniak was in UAE to handle the important Al-Ain vs Al-Wasl game but was replaced by a local official due to 'health problems'.
An overall good performance by Soares Dias, with some points for improvement. The referee showed a different style than the one we saw by Kovacs in Europa League final, but I think we can't say that the Portuguese wanted to avoid cards, indeed he started to book quite early. The three possible cards, I agree with you about that, should be only results of wrong assessments, is one can try to accept 27' and 74', the third in 84' is impossible, this was a very clear mistake. But I think the only evident miss of the game.
ReplyDeleteVery good control. About the rest and the crucial situations, all solved correctly, correctly disallowed the Fiorentina early goal, even if no touch, impact on keeper with the attempt to play ball close to hime, then to follow never a penalty in 94', and in my opinion in case of whistle by Soares Dias to give it, VAR should have intervened. Arm is in natural position, close to body, vertical position. To avoid that handball, defender should have put his arm behind the back, absolutely not required, arm can stay there. Very good NO FLAG by AR2 when Olympiacos scored, I don't see any potential foul in the attacking phase. Committee can be satisfied that another final ended without any controversy.
Orsato is back, so a good news for him, he has been appointed with the EURO assistant referees to Atalanta - Fiorentina on Sunday, a postponed serie A game that couldn't be played before that date, now without any interest but good for such an important farewell.
ReplyDeleteHe will end his career as second-placed referee with most serie A games, impossible to reach the first place where Concetto Lo Bello is still ahead, Orsato should have stayed at least further two seasons, to make a new record.
It’s a shame also for Orsato and Atalanta that Fiorentina couldn’t win conference league, that game would have been a really good occasion for everybody
