Obvious..
ReplyDeleteRosetti and his home favourites ... Guido sf in CFL and now another Italian.
The rest of the euro referees havent to go to Germany.
This Italian leads the final thee, also when he has a bad tournement.
Its not a bad referee Orsato, but this is so in favour of the italians.
Well... I'm usually one of the first to criticize the management of Italian referees by this committee, but this one seems fair to me. Orsato is still among the top5 referees in the world and he's the right man for the job.
DeleteAbout EURO final, I agree it should not be him, but this time around, the appointment is definitely fair.
Expected appointment good luck for Orsato and his team
ReplyDeleteThe fist name is the expected one. Very likely the last Champions League game for Orsato before his retirement after EURO. Massa assigned as fourth official, just as consolation prize... so not all fourth officials appointments of Elite referees on this final stages are made as EURO preparation. There are different arguments for committee. Now we should see Marciniak on Wednesday in Madrid.
ReplyDeleteMakkelie/ Vincic are possible too tomorrow
DeleteYes Chefren, Marciniak in Madrid.
DeleteNot so good performance by T.Bognar in critical match for the title in Croatia(Rijeka vs Dinamo).
ReplyDeleteIn 1st half 3 bookings were absolutely spot on and good way to start the match.
But after that, did he have some sort of blackout or what I dont know.
He started to become more and more lenient as the match was going on.
What caused that change of criterium I have no idea, but in this match we had a crystal clear missed 2nd YC for Rijeka #18.
Even the penalty that he whistled rightly so,but no YC was suprising to me.

03:20-penalty,missed yellow IMO
04:40-clear 2nd YC not given
That being said we had Siebert,Maresca Fesnic and Bognar to handle big matches last month in Croatia.
In terms of ranking and performance, this is the right order with how they performed, with Siebert being the absolute best.

ReplyDeleteOriginal penalty decision by Orsato correctly changed in free kick, I think only explanation is AR1 advice. No elements for Orsato to switch by himself.
I think supportable decision to play on following a penalty appeal by PSG. Correct by VAR to stay silent.
ReplyDeleteStonewall penalty, come on!! We should also criticize the big names here
DeleteGood decision, no penalty supportable/expected.
DeleteFor me also a good decision, very expected.
DeleteI'm of the same opinion, a supportable or even expected decision for me.

DeleteI'm much more along the lines of Marko23 and think that a penalty should have been awarded. Mbappe gets goalside of Schlotterbeck, the defender realises that he is in trouble, and then starts to play the man in order to put the attacker off. Then, you can see a very clear contact by NS onto Mbappe's kicking right leg, and this is why the Paris player cannot execute his shot, and instead only succeeds in kicking his own leg. Tough incident to assess in real time and it was definitely messy enough to (at least) support Irrati's non-intv, but overall a penalty would be a better decision based on the evidence. Meanwhile, excellent shout by Carbone to insist 'calcio de punizione' rather than 'rigore' in the comms and the replays prove that the linesman was right. Even if there was a clip on the toe inside the penalty area, the FOUL occurred outside and the decision (also by Irrati) was correct. I don't think any referee in the world could pull off with sooooo few problems changing his mind as Orsato quite visibly did and not lose his authority over the game! :D

DeleteI've looked at this clip many times now. And in the beginning I didn't even spot the contact of the left leg of DOR player. The holding of the arm (which was my main focus first) is IMO just normal football holding/contact. Typical defending, doesn't get you a foul anywhee on the pitch. Mpabbé also makes arm/holding contact. So for me these are all aspect for it not being a foul on the holding aspect.
But now looking at the evidence of the leg contact, which I think convinces @Mikael W that it is a penalty: firstly there is a typical tussle over the ball with the aforementioned arm holding-contact. Mpabbé is clearly faster and 'gets to the ball first' (or in reach to play = +- in possesion). A hand of Mpabbé comes out towards the face of the DOR player. The contact of the DOR player is about the same moment as the hand going into his face. The DOR player gets his foot caught in the grass and makes contact with the leg. Causing Mbappé to fall.
So what to make of this? IMO this is a really hard one to decide on for a referee and for a VAR.
There are elements to identify as a foul and elements to identify as normal football contact. If the DOR player would really 'kick out' at Mbappé I think it would be cristal clear penalty. But the nature of the tussle, both players 'fighting' for the ball, the arm of Mpabbé, the not clear kicking action but more a natural leg movement of the DOR player. Makes me decide that this is not a penalty. If your opinion it should be, I think that's totally valid. So I guess this is a 50-50, so never VAR material.
Also interesting that the very first idea of Orsato was penalty, he moves his whistle up before waving the situation off.

ReplyDeleteI want to say superb, but that's usual Orsato performance.
As a life long BVB supporter I have tears of joy in my eyes. So I'm not in the best position to give an objective analysis of Orsatos performance but I have got nothing to complain about. He worked this game, a CL HF, with a routine that most referees don't show during a Sunday league game. Both non-penalty calls were correct as the first one was inches out and the second one just not enough (also great body language and gesture in that situation). Great performance and perfect fit for this game.

ReplyDeleteIn that picture Orsato looks emational (maybe just a problem with his eyes) but do you think possible that it was his last UCL game, he's 48 and maybe think to retire after the euro like Rizzoli or Kuipers ?
Sure, this must have been his last CL game, I'm 99% sure he will call it a day after EURO just like Kuipers in 2021.
DeleteYes he will retire after EURO.
