  1. Germany - Austria (EURO 2025 Qualifying)
4O is a German?? How is this allowed

    1. According to UEFA.com yes she is German (Miriam Schwermer GER)

    2. Must be a last minute replacement. AR2 Marisca Overtoom isn't even an AR, but was appointed as 4th official

    3. Shona Shukrula is assisted by Franca Overtoom and Marisca Overtoom (they are sisters btw :)), but indeed Marisca is normally a CR/4O and not an AR.
The original appointment had Martina Boer as AR2.

    4. Sisters and singers :)

Boer became sick before the game (according to German TV).

    5. Yes, apparently they won a singing competition in 2020, as a family.

I was about to write that such “changes” (4O as AR) never happen in Men’s football. Before I recalled that once a VAR (Higler) was substituted to a R32 Europa League game of Roma/Mourinho :P
Quite unusual as well. Last minute changes must be difficult to manage.

    6. in German domestic football it happens at least twice a season that a 4O becomes Referee or AR. Usually due to injuries during game or warm up and rarely due to sickness, though.

    7. When official from host country in UEFA, it means last time replacement, maybe an injury during training, the most likely option for the AR originally assigned, Martina Boer.

    8. @Kaer Obviously the difference in Germany though is that many 2. Bundesliga referees regulary work in the Bundesliga as ARs. They only have a few specialised ARs, most are on the FIFA list. So it's not such an unusual experience for them

    9. So there really is no reserve AR (5O) in women's football who could replace AR in case of injury? If one AR is injured, there is no 4O because she replaces AR.
If Shukrula got injured during the game, 4O would have replaced her and we would have a German referee in a GER-AUT football Game?!

    10. Fritz, we are talking about EURO qualifiers. The reseve assistant referees are appointed only in very big games even in Men's competitions! Mostly finals, and big tounamente like EURO and World Cup. There are too many games for making such appointments. And yes, it's like you said, if a local referee must referee a game in case of emergency, UEFA allows that, there were many cases during COVID times!

    11. If Shukrula got injured, she would have been replaced by Marisca Overtoom and Schwermer would have become AR, I strongly assume.

  2. luka Bilbija should be removed from the Championship ,his handling of Northern Ireland was totally suspect as he kept blowing for fouls on the goalkeepers when there was no contact and in most cases fresh air between the player.

  4. It is going to be interesting to see whether EUFA take action against Alvaro Morata for his political statements during Spain's celebration in light of the action taken against the Serbian captain

  5. I didn't follow the tournament, it looks like the referee from Malta had some very good displays, he was assigned to a semifinal and then FO in the final, remarkable.
About the final appointment, it's time for Greece to find a new referee who can make progress and, hopefully, get the Elite category.
Given the current situation of Greek football it's hard, but I think that at a certain point the federation should focus on their referees without caring about clubs.

  6. Leslie Irvine (NIR) very long serving UEFA observer, has been assigned to final. Very particular choice, not common (a committee member or one of the appointed observers for the tournament was expected), possible that he is about to retire after about 20 years in this role.

  7. Do you have any review on Fotias' performance in the final? I suppose he is Greece's last chance to have a referee playing in top tiers
