Abatti starts with a soft FK for the attacking team, and a missed YC.
ReplyDeleteGood positioning and presence at 04:00. Correctly identifies the free kick near the technical area for Switzerland following a light stamp on the opponent’s foot. However, the whistle could have come slightly quicker, as it was clear that possession was going to the defender.

DeleteVery odd management...

DeleteI thought he awarded it to Canada as well, but I couldn't tell from the replays. Really odd management — I completely agree with you.
Delete13' very good advantage by Brazilian referee, almost goal.

DeleteIn terms of reaction and gesture, this is one of the best advantages I ever see. The referee is about to whistle, he sees the player and immediately reacts with raised arms. That's wonderful for me.

DeleteThat's an offence by Canada, there is no advantage to give. Canada player steps in front of the opponents to create foul but is the one tripping him. Typical move by attackers to fool a referee.
Delete19' referee counting the fouls to a player, next one YC for persistent infringment.
ReplyDeleteExactly, the threshold for informal warnings has now been reached.

DeleteAny chance of a booking for simulation at this world cup. Clear dive by the swiss player in the 17th minute
ReplyDelete16:20 – Good proximity and movement when Switzerland appeals for a penalty, allowing for a credible assessment of the situation. Also, a good public warning to Switzerland No. 13 for persistent offences. However, the body language appeared slightly rushed, which reduced the overall calmness and confidence of the intervention. Public waring could have come in 04:00 too, lets se how it developes.
ReplyDelete"It could be the World Cup with the fewest yellow cards. The referees are more tolerant when it comes to cards."
ReplyDeleteWhy YC for Larin here?
ReplyDeleteKicking the ball away
DeleteIf that's not FRD/DR what is?
DeleteI assume it was for kicking the ball away when Xhaka was about to take the free kick.
DeleteTeams intent on struggling with each other making life difficult for Abatti. Handling ok so far. Can’t help but think we will see a red card if the players don’t heed the double YC warning
DeleteYeah, as I am watching both games simultaneously I didn't notice that it was foul for Swiss so that it was FDR.
DeleteMass confrontation after a Canadian player kicks the ball away just before Switzerland is about to take a free kick, resulting in several players becoming involved.
ReplyDeleteThe main improvement area is the referee’s positioning and management during the confrontation. Rather than standing in the middle of the group, the referee could have called for medical attention immediately and positioned herself so that the players remained in front of her, reducing the risk of missing any misconduct within the crowd.
That said, the disciplinary outcome was very good. A caution for delaying the restart by kicking the ball away and a caution for the retaliatory kick by the Swiss player was an appropriate and balanced solution that addressed the key offences and helped restore control.

DeleteLarin kicks the ball away and creates the situation. He should be the only one booked in this situatuon

DeleteThat's why Xhaka laughed, mocking Abatti.
DeleteTrue, he creates it, but the Swiss player knows he is there and there was plenty of time after the ball was kicked away before the kick. It’s a deliberate action. It is not violent conduct though in my opinion.
DeleteThe situation would have been very difficult to sell to the public and the players if only the player who kicked the ball away had been cautioned. While he clearly initiated the incident, the retaliatory kick by the Swiss player cannot be ignored. From a match-management perspective, it would have been very difficult to maintain credibility and control without sanctioning that action as well.
DeleteI like the result with the two cautions in 32’ but I feel it could’ve been avoided with proactive management and the confrontation avoided with a quick reaction and cautions immediately.

DeleteAbatti body language is a bit all over the place today. For example, when he cautioned the two players, he made a sudden, sharp movement. Unlike Barton, for whom this seems to be an innate and unchangeable part of his personality, the Brazilian appears to be using this approach as a way to keep control of the match, even though it doesn't seem to come naturally by him.

DeleteHigh intensity and visible frustration among the players, let's see how he handles it. So far, the performance is at the expected level, with the exception of a few minor errors.
ReplyDeletePoor first half performance by the Brazilian ref Abatti, very disappointed by his standards hopefully the second half comes alive in a meaningful way
ReplyDelete49:53 The Swiss player goes down too easily and the contact is not sufficient to justify a penalty kick. Correct play on
ReplyDelete62:00 – The defensive free kick for Switzerland, together with a similar free kick awarded to Canada a few minutes earlier, are good examples of the referee’s presence and involvement in the match. He consistently appears close to play and engaged with the action.
ReplyDeleteWhile there have been some signs of rushed and slightly uncertain body language, particularly during the mass confrontation in the first half and in a few other situations, his overall presence is one of the stronger aspects of his performance and something I appreciate.
67:20 – Good application of advantage for Canada, allowing play to continue and resulting in a promising attacking opportunity. However, the advantage signal is missing, which would have helped communicate the decision more clearly to the players and spectators.
ReplyDelete78:30 Clearly missed corner to Canada
ReplyDeleteClip: https://streamable.com/1t6axn
DeleteCorrect me if I'm wrong (it could have been the one after), but one had a restart that wasn't in the six yard box, so I assumed some form of free kick was given
Delete81:15 Missed corner to Switzerland
ReplyDeleteClip: https://streamable.com/d5sarb
Delete86:10 – It appeared that the ball had completely crossed the touchline, particularly given the assistant referee’s position. Play was allowed to continue, making this a potentially missed decision.
ReplyDelete87:00 – Correct yellow card to the Canadian player for a tactical shirt pull.
YC 87' Clip: https://streamable.com/wo1iax
Delete91:00 – Another strange throw-in management situation involving Canada. A Swiss player interferes with the restart, yet instead of dealing with the interference and ensuring the throw-in is taken from the correct position further back, the referee orders the throw-in to be retaken. This felt like an unusual solution and lacked clarity from a match-management perspective.

Agree but viewed in the context of the overall performance, it only has a limited impact on the final assessment.
DeleteWell, very good performance from Abatti tonight. It is obvious that first game was just adapting to big competition,so fair treatment from Fifa to give him such game. Good disciplinary and technically, minor mistakes, but what I most impressed with, is his unbelievable physical conditition, running and positioning tonight. Expect him at least at Round of 16.
ReplyDelete96:00 Good presence and positioning in the penalty area for the free kick to Switzerland.Last thing in the match
ReplyDeleteOverall, a solid performance that met the expected level. The referee showed good presence, stayed close to play, and generally demonstrated strong involvement throughout the match. Several key decisions, including disciplinary sanctions and advantage application, were handled well.
ReplyDeleteThe main improvement areas relate to consistency in restart management and some moments of rushed or slightly uncertain body language, particularly in more challenging match-management situations. There were also a few questionable decisions around throw-ins and a potentially missed ball-out-of-play situation.
A step up from his first game, but still unconvincing. At no point am I convinced that he is fully convinced. It wasn't a particularly challenging match, and both teams were mostly football focused, which has helped. He's also very quick to get in the middle of any potential flashpoints. I know some like that, but personally think it means he has no view of what's around him and just adds fuel. Also likes to be rather dramatic in his gestures. A (small) step forward, however

ReplyDeleteI think Abatti got himself another game in R32 or R16, probably one where there will be clear favorite
