Roberto Tobar from Chile has been appointed by CONMEBOL to handle the first leg of 2018 Copa Libertadores final, Boca Juniors - River Plate.

The game, originally planned for Saturday 10 November, has been postponed to Sunday 11 November due to weather and pitch conditions.
This is the full appointment for the first leg of Argentinian Superclásico:

    1. 1. Holding is minimal, but existing. Borderline between SPA and DOGSO. Overall quite harsh decision, but not a clear mistake
      2. Clear dive, penalty is a mistake
      3. Unusual decison, but seeing it as offence by the GK is not completely unreasonable. Then, you can also consider it as SFP. Would be interesting to hear what DFB thinks about it, i.e. which interpretation is wanted here.

  2. If you are interested how the last Superclásico went for the referees, then you can find out in my report from last month below.

Good luck to Roberto Tobar's team tonight!

  3. Another wrong offside by Mateu's AR2 Iker de Francisco Grijalba. So far this season, I can't remember a match in which he hasn't made a crucial mistake corrected by VAR.

Problem with this is that the one who is on top of VAR interventions per match is Mateu Lahoz, with 6 (IIRC), of which 5 have been mistakes by that AR. But this last part is never stated on the media and the main referee gets a press he hasn't earned, which is not really fair.

  4. Already in 5 minutes we saw 2 fouls that on another day and on another match would be YC.
    But that wasn't unexpected.

  5. At least River #20 and Boca #22 deserved a YC there...

    2. Yep. UEFA RAPs instruct referees to issue at least a YC to a player of each team.

  7. What a luck for Tobar, he whistles a zero foul in order to calm the game, and then Boca score...

Shame, yes he bent the LOTG but, he managed that 1H well in my opinion, finding the right moment on the pitch for the opening YC. His firm, authoritarian style is succeeding on the pitch. His fitness is disappointing though.
Whether this game might 'explode' à la Stark in RLM-BAR, is another question, a bit separate from the referee's work.

    Good luck for 2H.

  8. Excellent YC now for dissent by making the VAR signal (we need to see this more often).
Both penalty appeals correctly rejected in the last minutes for my taste.

    1. Actually that wasn’t what the card was for. It was for a gesture. He made the VAR sign after Tobar already took out the card.

    2. My impression was, that the YC was for diving.

    3. No, Tobar made the gesture of verbal dissent with his hand after issuing the YC.

  9. Ughhhh. It would have been bery brave if ref showed 2nd yellow for hand gesture.

  10. Well. Trap avoided. Felicidades, señor Tobar.

  11. Not the best technical performance (no real predictable card line, bending LOTG and closing his eyes), but Tobar facilitated a good show, always had the control, and probably both teams will be reasonably content with his officiating which felt 'fair'.

So he fulfilled the basic requirements of this match, and he should sleep contently tonight.

  12. Ruddy buquet AR1 has had a bad day at the office so far 3wrong offside calls correctly overturned by VAR
