Cüneyt Çakır will take control over the second leg of CL semifinal Liverpool - Barcelona.
7 May 2019, 21:00 CET - Barcelona (Anfield)Liverpool FC (ENG) - FC Barcelona (ESP)
Referee: Cüneyt Çakır (TUR)
Assistant Referee 1: Bahattin Duran (TUR)
Assistant Referee 2: Tarık Ongun (TUR)
Fourth Official: Artur Manuel Ribeiro Soares Dias (POR)
Video Assistant Referee: Felix Zwayer (GER)
Assistant Video Assistant Referee: Sascha Stegemann (GER)
UEFA Referee Observer: Sándor Piller (HUN)
UEFA Delegate: Claude Runavot (FRA)
Something new... Çakır with German VARs...
ReplyDeleteAs it is Zwayer and not Dankert, the latter is still possible for Brych, in case, Wednesday...
DeleteVery likely Zwayer got this assignment also because he is the only Elite referee allowed to handle in CL KO stage with only 2 games (1 CL + 1 EL).
If not German VARs in Amsterdam, then it should be Italian appointment, I don't see other options. We will know tomorrow.
DeleteI think, without a Rocchi appointment tomorrow, Cakir would have worked with Irrati like in the last round.
DeleteWithout Irrati available, there were not many other VAR options for Cakir. With Marciniak, he had some problems in Porto. And Cakir and Zwayer at least have the common WC preparation and one appointment together there.
and... SKOMINA for the FINAL👌
ReplyDeleteDo you think that VAR change for Cakircould be related to OFR made in Manchester?
ReplyDeleteAnother reason for Zwayer appointment could be that some officials will be busy with the UEFA seminar for Category 2 reported by Edward, so maybe we will have an Elite referee as VAR also on Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteAnother interesting moment: who will be referee in UEL Final and FO/VAR in Baku and Madrid?
ReplyDeleteIf Ajax or Barcelona do not qualify i would put Makkelie or Del Cerro as FO in Madrid.
DeleteDaniel Orsato for the Europa final at Baku.
DeleteFor me Rocchi, Mateu or Turpin are the candidates for EL final.
DeleteOrsato is 43, Rocchi is 45...I think, UEFA should keep it in mind before making final UCL or UEL this year/ At the same time, Rocchi/Orsato were in shadow of Rizzoli(World Cup Final referee+ UCL/UEL finals)
DeleteI woudn't mind having Mateu Lahoz in Baku just right after a Spanish team is knocked-out, but I would if it's Valencia.
DeleteMateu Lahoz is from a small village in Valencia (Algimia de Alfara) and a former player of Valencia CF youth teams.
Damir Skomina for the final , for me. Champions league final.
ReplyDeleteGianlucca Rochi , the Italian for the 2 nd semi final between Ajax and Tottenham.
ReplyDeleteMy prediction for Ajax - Tottenham is still Brych...
ReplyDeleteBut what about Rocchi? Do you think he will be referee in final?
DeleteI will be surprised if Skomina is overlooked for Rochii in the final.
DeleteSkomina with his usual team is appointed for tomorrow`s 1st league match. Not without purpose!
DeleteInteresting fact: in 2019 Skomina was referee in 19 games, 11 of them were in Saudi Arabia:)
DeleteAt the same time, Marciniak(some users are shocked about his air transfers) had 17 games and only 5 of them in Saudi Arabia!
Daniel Orsato for Europa final at Baku.
ReplyDeleteExpected appointment for Cüneyt Çakır, it is hard to imagine the Semifinal without him.
ReplyDeleteThere is quite a big 'battle' behind the scenes at UEFA, regarding who will officiate the CL Final in Madrid. I think we will learn who has the louder voice regarding the refereeing, if it is Čeferin (Rocchi) or Rosetti (Skomina) handling the game in Madrid on 1/June. For this season in case that Liverpool make a remarkable comeback, Mateu might be the compromise option, also politically valuable: Velasco in Dublin (2011) was the last Final appointment for Spain. Turpin might have an outside chance, or even Kuipers again (?), although I find neither of these to be satisfying choices, fully cognisant of their merits.
Let's wait who will attend the Ajax - Tottenham game tomorrow, the picture should be clearer (I don't think Zwayer in Liverpool puts Brych out, maybe even the contrary, I'm sure they will never work together as REF-VAR c. Serbia - Switzerland match).
I repeat myself. I'd never appoint Mateu Lahoz for a final right after Valencia is eliminated, although it's not a strange thing in national teams tournaments. Mateu is Valencian and a former player of Valencia youth teams. I have no doubt that he would concentrate and try a fair refereeing, but if he commits mistakes against Arsenal and people happen to discover his origins...
DeleteCeferin - Rocchi ? r u sure?
DeleteCakir my teacher go forward you are our role nodel my teacher goooooooo
ReplyDeleteI‘m a bit surprised about some comments stating that Brych cannot/won‘t handle the match on Wednesday because of the VAR‘s assignment on Tuesday. Indeed, Rocchi is a possible candidate, too. However, the 'usual' VAR team for Brych is Dankert/Fritz. I don‘t think that it‘s impossible to have two German VAR teams. The abscence of Irrati can have many (explainable) reasons. But let‘s wait until tomorrow‘s appointment.
ReplyDeleteYes, maybe I was a bit fast with my conclusion, because I saw my previous assumption (Rocchi) confirmed.
DeleteIndeed Brych/Dankert/Fritz are still possible - the big question is, how their QF performance and especially the penalty situation was evaluated.
Irrati could also be saved for the final - as first VAR option for both, Rocchi and Skomina.
Congrats to Cuneyt Cakir, can he be the UEL final referee in Baku?
ReplyDeleteThis is something inevitable. Actually he deserves another UCL final but he already officiated one.
ReplyDeleteFirst, based on the previous years, I would not be surprised if we find out referees for the finals on Friday. Second, my guess are Skomina for CL and Rocchi/Cakir for EL final.
ReplyDeleteThe men of semi-finals. No other comments.
ReplyDeletewhere are the comments?
ReplyDeletePenalty or no penalty?
Missed foul by AR1?
That’s what I’m wondering as well... imo no play on is fine.. but AR2 definitely missed a foul.
Delete*play on is fine
DeleteNo penalty is better decision, penalty would have been too easy call.
ReplyDeleteA missed foul by AR2. Very challenging game for Cakir.
It is never a mistake to use Cakir. His red cards to Terry, Nani seems controversial but are all from the textbook.
ReplyDeleteI see that Cakir wants this have to be combative and rugby like. It's one thing to allow the game to flow. But it's a totally different thing to simply refuse to whistle could. Having no real clear disciplinary line doesn't help either.

ReplyDeleteMissed handball?
ReplyDeleteOverall not likely Cakir tonight... agree with Sheriff..
That was a great goalkeeper block by Vidal. Missed handling by Cakir. In the box, that would have been reviewed and PK given.
ReplyDeleteZwayer?
DeleteFirst of all it is outside the box. Second arm is on the body. No handball.
DeleteThe arms are most definitely not in to the body. That are clearly away from his chest. I see your name, so I don't fault you for seeing what you supposedly see. That happens when you're a fan of an individual and not The Law's of the Game.
DeleteAahh, the old Sheriff is back! For a moment I thought you really tried to have a normal participation in the discussions on this blog, but here we are again, playing on the man to make your point.
DeletePoor cakir performance overall ... but my comment remain .. check the performance you will c for yourself ...
ReplyDeleteYou can write that in your opinion performance is poor, problem is that you wrote something different and it was unacceptable.
DeleteThat's an opinion abt unacceptable ... But wasnt it a foul on mane or not
DeleteIf foul, then a mistake by referee to miss it. Nothing else.
DeleteCool but i just been watching cakir performance for years and it same year round ... These mistake n complacency
DeleteWell... not the best Cakir ever for sure but we can’t complaint for this first half.
ReplyDeleteI literally loved two advantages and how he checks penalty area in corner kicks.
I started watching from 8th monute, i have seenntwo issues with Cakir. One he missed the foul on Mane (with Langlet) and imo should be cautioned. Second thing he is missing obstructions of Suarez on defenders off the ball.
ReplyDeleteSo not a bad game but have seen better ones of Cakir.
Wrong YC for Busquets also. I can't find a clear line, and that has lead to a further heated game than it would have been, IMO.
ReplyDeleteGerman TV Expert says crucial mistake by Cakir because missed penalty to Liverpool (Foul on Mane)
ReplyDeleteI really like Cakir’s style and the way he manages the players.
ReplyDeleteFully agree. The best manager in Europe IMO.
DeleteClattenburg used to be a strong competitor.
DeleteThat's why you need Cakir in the semi final.
ReplyDeleteCakir always has exciting games lol
ReplyDeleteVery good 30 mins for Cakir second half.
ReplyDeleteRegular corner kick? Not unsporting behavior?
ReplyDeleteUnsporting behaviour? Not in my opinion.
DeleteCan you be more clear? Do you think taking immediate corner kick is unsportsman behaviour?
DeleteYou can compare it with a free kick where you also see things like that.
DeleteIn my opinion this has been a good performance by Cakir.
ReplyDeleteNobody will complain about referee, that's the most important thing.
Some troubles in first half, but nothing very important if you ask me.
This was a very hot game and a referee like Cakir was needed.
I think UEFA can be satisfied that in such a game there weren't VAR interventions at all.
Let's hope the same for tomorrow.
More importantly that also verifies that Cakir/Brych/Kuipers are needed for the semi final even though it is 3-0 behind.
DeleteMateu Lahoz is now among the candidates for CL final.
ReplyDeleteYes, but after SF(instead of Clatenburg) no way, I expect Skomina
DeleteClatenburg? Mate, he has retired.
DeleteI think he wanted to say that now it is different from past times when Clattenburg got a semifinal and then also the final, now with the semifinal appointment, CL season for Mateu could be maybe over. I can agree... I think he was appointed for CL semifinal first leg because committee was quite sure that Spanish team would have qualified for the final.
DeleteI think that CL final referee has been already decided.
Well done Cüneyt Çakır, his decisions were optimal for this game!
ReplyDeleteSurely one of the best referees in history.
I agree. Excellent referee.
Deletedon't forget the overtime - 5 minutes was the minimum but ok - 3 of them effectively where played
DeleteNo doubt that being a mega star weighs on a referee's willingness to a show a card. Messi is a mega star
ReplyDeleteIMO, the attack is not promising enough. I understand the decision of no card
DeleteI've never seen Messi been shown a RC.
Deletethat's not correct - Messi got a RC by Markus Merk
DeleteI never saw. I knew he got one. Maybe just one.
DeleteIt was a clear dive. He pretended he got tackled by the other player not Messi. Lucky he didn't get a second yellow card for the dive.
DeleteA dive? I understand that his being a Mega Star makes referee's keep the cards in the pocket. But to suggest that the Liverpool player dove. That takes it to another level of idolatry. Messi knew that he had to stop the counter attack and he clearly steps on the heel of the Liverpool player.
DeleteMessi is Football he was already devestated. I think Cakir's man management is this. That's how he got the respect of the all the players on the globe technical and disciplinary decisions plus, psyhcosocial readings of the situations what a emotional intelligent official. As a former regional player I am following him with an awe-inspiring manner. All in all great perfomance without any VAR interventions.
ReplyDeleteWho will be appointed as VAR in the UEL and UCL final? The two best VAR's for UEFA are Makkelie and Irrati.
ReplyDeleteIf Ajax reach the final, for sure it will be Irrati. In Tottenham goes through, Makkelie will be there (unspoken).
Irrati with Rocchi in the UEL final would be logical. Skomina with Makkelie, as they have worked together before during the WC in Russia.
Any thoughts?
Cakir has made his way towards Baku with today's performance. Such a magnificent day for him and Reds. It is a well deserved final for him. UCL is a bit far fetched but EL is something I expect from him this year.
ReplyDeleteI agree, EL Final is missing in his career and i think this year he will get it
ReplyDeleteThis final will make him man of finals besides the title of man of semi-finals.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe his games this year OMG. First of all gigantic clash between CITY VS Tottenham. Now Liverpool Barça. Great games with optimal performances. UEFA is lucky to have him in such a difficult time of transfers and retirements. He is a gem.
ReplyDeleteI have a question regarding the UEFA instructions for referees:
ReplyDelete---What is exactly the duty of AR1 and FO after the half-time whistle or final whistle?
I see that they don't come next to referee to go inside. I can assume that they go to tunnel to observe any possible confrontations but why both, why not just FO?
Follow up question:
---Is it the same in other confederations or FIFA events? may be some friends can give us some information.
Yeah, would be interesting to hear. Chefren?
DeleteHere the answer, these are very detailed and accurate guidelines by committee:
Deletehttps://i.postimg.cc/KjsY7JP7/UEFA-guidelines.jpg
Thanks!
DeleteThanks Chefren. Cheers.
DeleteIf Kuipers got two Europa League finals, then Cakir three.
ReplyDeleteWhich ones as far as remember no EL finals officiated by him.
DeleteMy predictions for finals:
ReplyDeleteEL Rocchi
CL Skomina
Enter your comment...What you guys have not realized is that UEFA may be protecting Damir Skomina from pressure arising from scrutiny and controversy, in preparation for the final. That may explain why he has not been selected for any of these latter rounds of the UCL, but was appointed in the EL. Having said that. I make my prediction in this order;
ReplyDeleteUCL; Damir Skomina or Gianluca Rocchi
UEL; Çuneyt Çakir or Clément Turpin
