    1. Maybe Chefren is Roberto Rosetti :D

    2. If so, let him hint for the referees of the finals:)

    3. I'm not Rosetti, but this prediction was not that difficult!
No German teams, Brych in semifinal was expected as big name.
Moreover, about Rocchi we should still mention the mistake by Passeri, this for sure played a role, at least until now.

    4. Chefren, please tell me: does UEFA mention situations like PK in Barca-ManU ? Sometimes I think that big names like Brych oder Cakir are just intouchable for such mistakes..

      Delete
    5. I think that they discuss these situations, but you can't judge a referee based only on a penalty... it is a difficult speech.
Brych, like some other names, showed in the years to be a very reliable official at high level.

    6. Coming to Rochii again , the age limit of 45 years for refs , have been done away with , an year back or so , right ?

  2. So CL Final Skomina and El Final Rocchi?

    1. Maybe not if Rocchi is in El scond leg, we'll see tomorrow

  3. Time to make predictions about CL and EL final, indeed it is possible that UEFA will reveal the choices on Friday. Expect a post before that date!

    1. You were right about Felix Brych. Experienced German ref. Skomina should get the final. With no Italian team in final , Rochii could be the surprise choice. Rochii has more of a chance in the Europa final now.

    2. Last season was an exception , instead of announcing the appointments on Friday following the Europa final , for what so ever reason , probably they couldn't reach at an appountment for the Europa final , finally with Milorad Maxzic getting Liverpool Real Madrid final and Bjorn Kuipers getting his 2 nd Europa final of his refereeing career , was announced on the following Monday.

  4. Meanwhile, predictions for tomorrow:
    Hategan Chelsea - Eintracht
    Makkelie Valencia - Arsenal

    1. What an unbelievable Predictor you are ! Super.

  5. For tomorrow, I expect Hategan and Makkelie, so I agree with the choices of Chrefren. Possibly, they could be switched since Chelsea-Eintracht seems the more sonorous match and Makkelie has performed better this season, in my opinion. Besides, Hategan did both Arsenal and Eintracht in previous rounds, so that shouldn't be that important.

For the finals: I expect Skomina for CL and Rocchi for EL. An outsider for EL could be Makkelie, but in that case Rocchi should do a semi-final in EL. That could be an explanation for Cakir working with Zwayer, because more Italian referees are needed in that case in team Rocchi.
As fourth officials, I would expect Makkelie in CL (in case Ajax doesn't qualify) or otherwise Oliver.
In EL, Del Cerro Grande could be a good fourth official (in case Valencia doesn't qualify) or even Undiano Mallenco. Otherwise, Makkelie could be a good choice too.

    2. Sorry but I still expect Rocchi for Champions league final and Spanish for Europa league final.

  7. I’m not sure about this, but as a Dutchman i say it’s not impossible for Rocchi to get the CL final over Skomina, because last time Skomina did EL final, Ajax was there, so maybe if Tottenham qualifies they put Skomina, if Ajax qualifies they put Rocchi in charge, as Dutchman i have nothing against Both referees, but i don’t know the thinking off uefa

    1. Skomina based on his his recent form does not deserve a Champions league final. Rocchi has been more consistent throughout the year. However I think Ref of the year has been Del Cherro Grande.

      Delete
    2. You can't say Skomina doesn't deserve CL final, IMHO.
You forget many and many years of Skomina at top level.

      Delete
    3. I agree, the multitude of matches he does in Saudi Arabia are of the highest most demanding level possible in world football. Much more demanding than the EPL, La Liga, Series and Bundesliga. Hahaha, Lol ;)

  8. Rocchi vs Skomina?
    Rocchi
Age: 45, Italian and no Italian team, Rosetti's influence. (Next year? 46?No mature Italian referees for the incoming years for the final.)

    Skomina:
Age 42, relatively young, small association, tons of chances in the next 2 years as long as in relative good shape.

    1. Why don't you mention an alleged Ceferin's influence on Skomina likely appointment? You write only about Rosetti vs Rocchi.
I think they are both excellent refs and deserve to get a final regardless of any supposed influence by anyone

  10. OT, yesterday was an important game in Romanian League for the second spot between CSU Craiova and FCSB, and the referee was Istvan Kovacs. In the first half, he got some challenging game from both team players and he showed 7 yellow cards and a penalty for FCSB. I think there was some policy to pay form their previous clash, they meet three more times in this season. In the second half it was an easy game for Kovacs. But what about the penalty, he showed the yellow card, but others says that could be red. https://www.telekomsport.ro/video-cat-tupeu-donkor-era-sa-i-rupa-piciorul-lui-coman-dar-facea-semn-ca-n-a-fost-nimic-cum-l-a-implorat-pe-kovacs-sa-nu-dea-penalty-18994176 Here is the phase.

Here the full sequence of Napoli - Cagliari handball situation, described yesterday by our reader Ref545. Referee was Daniele Chiffi.
Rizzoli was yesterday in TV and he has stated that VAR (Mariani) checked with Cross Air, the software used for offside, that touch had occurred inside the penalty area. A projection was made starting from the exact point in which ball touched arm. However, this stays as very controversial decision, because before yesterday all people here knew that the software was used only for offside positions. If this is possible for all situations, then I think it should be used also for checking if a ball is totally out from the pitch or not.
Still, AIA is very silent and they don't communicate anything.
You can see that referee checking the monitor looked to be not so much sure. Given that VAR had checked it was INSIDE the box, referee had only to assess if this was a punishable handball or not. In my opinion, the management by fourth official was quite problematic, with many people and players trying to watch the monitor of the referee.
A final remark: Chiffi needs still experience, his first season as serie A referee has been not that good. Let's hope he will improve on next season.

  12. Cannot imagine that Skomina would be completely out of final stages of both competitions, why would that be? He didn't get a CL semifinal, so "at least" he could get an EL semifinal. Today's appointment of his international team in Slovenia could indicate a semifinal on Thursday (Valencia-Arsenal?). However, Vincic who should act as an AAR, is appointed in Slovenia on Friday, so not likely.

    1. UEFA has no others. As they have done a pitiful job in looking towards the future. Development of future talents has not been a top priority of UEFA Ref Com. I'm personally pleased with this however. While UEFA has become stale and stagnant other Confederation's have continued to produce, develop and push new and young talent.

  15. Hi guys, have you seen this: https://streamable.com/8lliu APP was reviewed after "ref fouled a player"

    ReplyDelete
  16. That's a quite unique situation. The LotG don't state anything about such situations, so disallowing the goal was a total mistake and not complying with the laws (also VAR review was totally inappropriate). In the same time - if the ref wouldn't make that foul, there is at least 80 percent possibility that there wouldn't be a goal. So in conclusion - referees MUST comply with the LotG always and IFAB MUST finally do something to stop the total mess in the LotG, including interference by the referee, like this situation. It should be stated that "if the ref seriously interferes with play, the goal doesn't count and a VAR review is allowed if necessary".

  18. To clear VAR called for a review because there was clear contact between the yellow player and the black player it's now arguable if the contact was sufficient and that was up to the referee to decide

However the YC against Sissoko is fully deserved

    1. Agreed. Blind's tackle was very much deserving of at the very least a Yellow card. Tackle was quite high, with studs, and in to the knee/thigh.

Yellow card to Tottenham player fully correct and deserved. I get the feeling that Brych didn't get the best look at the tackle and was unsure initially of giving the card. But IMO, good German teamwork with AR1 and 4th Off prevailed.

  21. I'll never understand the stupid thing UEFA does with referee's socks. OK, not black because they might be mistaken with Tottenham's. Not red, to avoid coincidence with Tottenham's GK, but yellow, the same color of Ajax' GK is fully OK. Light blue not because… really, why not? Nonsense.

    1. Is it that serious? Also, how many times is this topic going to be brought up? We should all know that that’s how it works by now...

      Delete
    2. Referee's should wear black shorts and socks universally. The only thing that should change is the color of the shirt based on the kit colors of the field player's only. No need to take into consideration the color of the goalkeepers.
It's ridiculous to think that professional players will mistakenly pass the ball the referee because of the color of his socks.

      Delete
    3. Says who? That’s your opinion. Clearly those at UEFA disagree what does talking (read: complaining) about it achieve? Nothing. Just takes away from what the discussion should really be about:the referee’s performance.

      Delete
    4. Says me. And that's all that matters. It's my opinion and I am sharing it. Don't like it? I couldn't care less. Referee's aren't clowns. So they shouldn't be forced to dress to look like one.

      Delete
    5. The great Sheriff Castrilli, whose word is gospel, has spoken, right? It’s dumb. No ones dying, the game is not being impacted. If UEFAfinds it necessary to make sure everyone is dressed distinctly then so what? If you want to see clowns refereeing look no further than liga mx.. now those “belts” ARE ridiculous and clown-like.

    6. Agreed, they look ridiculous much like Brych's neon yellow socks. But that's what happens when sponsorship money dictates and controls "modern" football.

    1. Hard for me to believe that a FIFA referee are not up to date with the restart rules in regards to offside calls.

  25. 2 bookings in 2 minutes.Game is heating up,also he should do a better with Onana's timewasting.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Why did Brych force Tottenham to restart that offside call on their half of the field? The Ajax player becomes actively involved in play within in own half. And based on the not so new offside restart rule. Tottenham should have been able to restart inside if Ajax half.

  27. Ziyech is not going to change his aggressive style of play. No matter that he's already been booked. But I don't think that Brych will send him off. He's going to "carry" Ziyech regardless of how many fouls he commits.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Sorry but there was absolutely no second YC necessary.

    2. I didn't single out a single foul. I'm speaking about the overall amount of fouls that Ziyech has and will commit.

    3. Sheriff, I'm not saying I completely disagree with everything you say... But the stuff you dare to say sometimes... You must be at least Pierluigi Collina -_-

    1. I disagree. Cakir's performance was better.

    2. I haven‘t seen Cakir but to keep control of such a game like today needs an amazing referee. If we leave out the missed yellow card in the first half Brych did a fantastic job tonight. Added time justified for me as well as all yellow cards given

    3. 4 English teams going through. A tremendous success of premier league; the most competitive league in the world. I cannot see Skomina reffing any of the finals. I think both finals will go to refs from big federations: Spain, Italy, Germany maybe Turpin.

  31. It's very irritating when some users believe that they are more important than the imperative function of our blog. I would like to apologise to those users who were expecting to see mostly a discussion about the Ajax - Tottenham game.

UEFA should be extremely satisfied with the refereeing in both of these Semifinal return matches, besides missing one YC and some smaller acceptance problems at the end, Brych solved the game in Amsterdam very well. Çakır yesterday was immense IMO.

Talking about the overall picture, the best resonance (refereeing fully in the background) from CL Semifinal returns since 2008 with excellent performances by Herbert Fandel and Roberto Rosetti himself.
